Am I wrong to turn my nose up at this make of car? Hubby wants to consider them but honestly just the name doesn’t appeal to me.

Any one with a Skoda love or hate them?

Skoda's are great. Been driving them (2 different models ) since 2005

SlopesOff · 18/10/2020 22:45

We had one, leased. Replaced with the most awful bloody thing you could ever have the misfortune to sit in, a sodding Phev, it is truly grim.

We regret giving up the Skoda, I hadn't realised how good it was until it was gone. I would love a Yeti.

LouLou789 · 18/10/2020 22:45

Woah! They’re bloody brilliant. Husband had three as taxis. Our family car is a Skoda now and we would be loath to consider anything else

RaininSummer · 18/10/2020 22:49

My skoda estelke in around 1990 was a heap of junk but my little citigo now is great.

Pl242 · 18/10/2020 22:52

We are on our first Skoda. A kodiaq. Previously had a vw golf. So much more for your money than a vw. We think it’s great and I couldn’t give a monkey’s if anyone thinks it’s naff. Boot of the kodiaq is epic. Great if you have small kids for all the gear and good for sitting/lying them down to change muddy wellies/nappies.

BikeRunSki · 18/10/2020 22:57

YABU- DH has had 3 x Octavias as company cars. Whenever the lease runs out, he looks at other cars, but can never get as good a car for his budget, and ends up with another one. I had a Felicia (predesecor to the Fabia) back in the year that VW bought Skoda, avd that was excellent, as was the Fabia estate i has subsequently. I do not drive fast/sporty/exciting cars, but I hear that the Skoda VRS engines scratch this itch.

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2020 22:59

Yes you're being a snob. They're great cars.

Jinglesplodge · 18/10/2020 23:14

My brand new karoq sportline is the best car I've ever had. All the bells and whistles of any top of the range VW and also the performance and reliability. Love it.

thekaratekid · 18/10/2020 23:24

We have a top of the range skoda fabia. It was cheaper than the basic VW polo and has more bells and whistles. The basic polo didn't even have rear parking sensors...and I think if memory serves correctly...no air con. Confused The polo was slightly prettier inside, but at the end of the day they both drove exactly the same... and the fabia had more for less!

You have to be a little discerning if buying a newly new one. We found the dealerships could be a bit variable. One dealership had one car which reeked of smoke and another with a coffee stain on the upholstery....so check carefully. However, there was no hard sale and the salesmen we encountered at skoda were much easier to deal with than VW.

Mrstwiddle · 18/10/2020 23:24

I’m sure they’re fine now, but as a child of the 80s, I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to buy one.

ventanaperrito · 18/10/2020 23:27

Just don't get one with twin exhaust pipes or a sunroof.

ventanaperrito · 18/10/2020 23:28

@mrslol

We've just ordered a Kodiaq. It's a lot of car for the money and it comes with umbrellas stored in the door.
That's for when the sunroof won't close Grin
MrsTravers · 18/10/2020 23:31

We swapped an Audi A4 for a Skoda a few years back. Apart from the badge, it was pretty much identical inside. Better in a way, for the fab Skoda features like the umbrellas in the front doors and the little clip for your parking ticket on the windscreen.

They are amazing cars and I would go for one now if I could - but we need a full 7 seater and the kodiaq isn't quite big enough. Had a superb as a company car for a while and holding out for another of those when we switch our second car - it was a fantastic car.

Rhayader · 18/10/2020 23:32

We’ve just bought a kodiaq (delivered in June) and it’s such a fab car. No regrets at all, especially for the price!

SkiingIsHeaven · 18/10/2020 23:36

You get a lot of car for your money.

CherryPavlova · 18/10/2020 23:37

My Octavia estate is coming up for three years so have ordered a hybrid Superb estate.
I was reluctant to move from my Golf but needed a boot for dog. It handles like the Golf, is very reliable and holds a wet road well. Good visibility, comfortable, more of a real country car than a Land Rover these days. I’ve never heard a bad word from anyone that’s actually owned one.

RBA14 · 18/10/2020 23:38

I don't have one but I know they have raving reviews. My boss at work has had a new kodiaq- it looks amazing and the spec is good. Great value for money

sbhydrogen · 18/10/2020 23:42

I'm amazed people love them so much. I've driven two Fabias, and they were both so boring 😩😩😩 you put your foot to the floor and nothing happens!

Frolicinameadow · 18/10/2020 23:44

I find the manual gearboxes in any Skoda I’ve driven to be a bit sticky, not as smooth as other cars. I hire cars every second week for work and have driven most of them at this stage. That’s the only issue I would have with a Skoda.
If I was in the market for a car I’d get a merc or bmw. For me these are the nicest hire cars to drive, either manual or automatic. Just my 2cents

slightlysnippy · 18/10/2020 23:53

I've owned two Skoda Octavia's great cars, the boot is like a Tardis. Although when I went to buy my third the salesman wouldn't give me a deal, book price only I was told ( sure if I'd been a man it would been a different conversation) so promptly left, test drove a BMW for fun, never thought I could afford one, guy gave me an amazing offer and got a BMW for 3 grand morel than the Octavia.

Octavia is a great car, so practical especially when the kids are young, solid to drive but unlike the BMW not fun, so shop around to get a good price

Osirus · 18/10/2020 23:54

I love the look of the Kodiaq but they do seem “cheap” on the inside. Not solidly built like other cars of similar size. Yes I have been in one!

So great if you’re on a budget but if you have more to spend I’d go for something more substantial.

Stringervest · 19/10/2020 00:05

We have a superb and I love it. It feels luxurious in every way but it was cheap to buy, it's cheap to run and cheaper than our Golf to insure despite being double the size. This is all because some people are still snobs about them and that's totally fine by me!

backinthebox · 19/10/2020 00:09

DH has a Skoda. We love it. It is much more comfortable and spacious than the last few cars he's had, and is cheaper to run. He bought a top of the range one with all the extras, so it has heated seats front and back (which keeps the kids very happy,) and a cool box in the armrest. His last few cars have included a Jaguar, a BMW and a couple of Mercedes. The Skoda is nicer to be in than all of them.

bodgeitandscarper · 19/10/2020 00:10

We have an Octavia Estate, it is a very practical car, but I'm afraid I don't like it. I think its quite ugly and a bit boring 😕 We had a top of the range Insignia estate before this and I much preferred that, but it was a nightmare to park in small spaces.

Whammyyammy · 19/10/2020 00:10

Skodas are good now. Built by vw/Audi group
