Lasagna with cheese on top

451 replies

RainbowRaine · 15/10/2020 18:53

Just ordered a food delivery as a treat, DH ordered a lasagna and it came with cheese on top.

I would of complained as cheese does not belong on lasagna but DH loves it as says it's meant to come with melted grated cheese on top.

I disagree and think it's just meant to have the white sauce.

Should Lasagna have cheese?

YANBU = No cheese

YABU = Yes cheese

Every single recipe for lasagne that I have ever read (and I am quite old so that is running into the dozens) has finished with a grated layer of cheese (padana, Parmesan or parmigiano) but I usually use cheddar! Really weird to have no cheese. It would be like making an apple crumble, but without the crumble.

Spacecudet · 15/10/2020 19:17

I make mine with bechamel sauce and grated parmesan on top. I don't like it with cheese sauce though, and definitely not cheddar!

Babyboomtastic · 15/10/2020 19:17

Belchamel sauce on every layer, alternated with a generous sprinkling of mozzarella or parmesan on each layer, and then a blend of those cheese plus cheddar in the top.

Lasagne without cheese is like complaining about chips in a chip shop.

TartanDMs · 15/10/2020 19:17

Cheeseless lasagna is an abomination! What on earth would you use instead? It has to be: lasagna sheets, cheese sauce, sliced tomatoes (or Sun dried tomatoes), fresh mozzarella, grated extra mature cheddar, then salt and pepper. Mmm.

YABU. That's the best bit!

MyCatHatesEverybody · 15/10/2020 19:18

Where the heck did you learn to make lasagne if you think it doesn't have cheese on top? Confused

springiscoming12 · 15/10/2020 19:18

What? Lasagna without cheese? Where have you been eating?

FairFriday · 15/10/2020 19:18

Is that 1% defiant and 1% troll then?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/10/2020 19:19

@cherrybakewellll there is vegan "cheese".😁 Though that's usually so rank nothing might be better👀

Strugglingtodomybest · 15/10/2020 19:19

A simple Google would show you that lasagna has cheese on the top. Talk about attention seeking!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/10/2020 19:20

What sort of monster re you?

NO CHEESE?

THE VERY IDEA!

YES CHEESE! ALWAYS CHEESE!!! MOAR CHEEEEEESE!!!!!!!

bibbitybobbitycats · 15/10/2020 19:20

@Bummsbet

Traditionally lasagne doesn't have cheese on no. But it's amazing with it! I put Stilton in my cheese sauce and then a good sprinkle of grated cheddar on top. Try it. Live a little!
Are you sure about the no cheese? Anna del Conte uses cheese (but not cheddar!)
AcornsVsBcorns · 15/10/2020 19:20

Bloody hell.

As if 2020 hasn't been bad enough, without people trying to block the cheesy topping on lasagne.

MrsWhites · 15/10/2020 19:20

If you don’t have the gooey stretchy cheese on the top of a lasagne which bit do you eat first???

Brighterthansunflowers · 15/10/2020 19:21

YABVU

the cheese on top is the best bit! What kind of monster are you?

DelphineWalsh · 15/10/2020 19:21

No cheese? Heathen!

MiddleClassMother · 15/10/2020 19:21

@MrsWhites
You throw it in the bin, can't be a good lasagne without the cheese on top

It really does.

Not cheddar, though. Traditionally it's parmesan or similar.

👏 👏 👏

I bet the OP is one of those strange people who say no to the Parmesan in Italian restaurants!

hesaidshesaidwhat · 15/10/2020 19:22

It has cheese but it does not have cheddar. It has parmesan and possibly mozzarella but never ever greasy cheddar. HTH.

JimandPam · 15/10/2020 19:23

YABVVVVVU

NO CHEESE???? To coin a MN phrase, 'are you high on drugs?'
