Lasagna with cheese on top

RainbowRaine · 15/10/2020 18:53

Just ordered a food delivery as a treat, DH ordered a lasagna and it came with cheese on top.

I would of complained as cheese does not belong on lasagna but DH loves it as says it's meant to come with melted grated cheese on top.

I disagree and think it's just meant to have the white sauce.

Should Lasagna have cheese?

YANBU = No cheese

YABU = Yes cheese

But that's just because "lasagne" is the name of the pasta shape not the dish. I suppose outside of Italy the pasta shape has become the dish.
It's like my aforementioned MIL saying to me when I say "which pasta shall I use?" replying she doesn't want "pasta" she wants tagliatelle. Confused

MrsCatE · 17/10/2020 06:35

Yup. Another one who thinks OP is bonkers.

Before current husband, I would make a classic Bechemel sauce but with nutmeg for Lasagna and add grated cheese topping.

Now, it's a basic cheese fest; cheese sauce (still nutmeg) - more cheese on top and homemade breadcrumbs* on top - to soak up cheese fat and enable crispy topping .

*any leftover bread, blitzed then stored in freezer.

I'm making lasagna today and wonder if I can use panko breadcrumbs in the same way 🤔

MrsCatE · 17/10/2020 06:42

@KatherineJaneway

Perfect! Completely forgot that I've done that too plus on Fish Pie! Yum!

Sounds like a plan 😃

TheSeedsOfADream · 17/10/2020 06:54

I think Panko would be sublime!
I always add a sprinkling of breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
(Also to roast potatoes- Nigella told me)

KitMarlowesCodpiece · 17/10/2020 07:01

You are the wrongest OP I've ever seen and I've seen some wronguns.

@RainbowRaine May I ask how you top your pizza? Because I'm starting to worry you might be a 'ham and pineapple' kind of gal too

Extra cheese on pizza and pineapple does not belong on pizza.

Cheese is one of the main ingredients of lasagne! The white sauce you describe is cheese sauce and always it has cheese on top to create a cheesy crust.

MrsBaboo · 17/10/2020 10:42

Cheesy cheesy loveliness. It’s the icing on the cake, I mean lasagne.

rachaelclaire1 · 17/10/2020 11:51

Yep cheese on top

PigletJohn · 17/10/2020 11:54

but it should be bechamel sauce and mozzarella.

If you put grated cheddar on top it will not be the same thing.

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 12:51

Well you lot, you made me do it... making a lovely lasagne tonight with oodles of cheese. Then some more on top, possibly mixed with breadcrumbs for extra crunchiness.

Ginfordinner · 17/10/2020 12:53

Me too Grin

The ragu is cooking slowly in the oven as I write this.

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 12:56

I texted DS - pizza or lasagne. God that kid is easily pleased! It’s as if I’d offered him a Porsche or Lamborghini...

vixb1 · 17/10/2020 13:02

Just come back on to see if this thread had been deleted because obviously the OP was a troll. Otherwise this is just madness! Grin

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 13:09

I think the OP is just handing her head in shame... still, I’m really looking forward to dinner tonight.

movingonup20 · 17/10/2020 13:27

Lasagne always has cheese on it!

movingonup20 · 17/10/2020 13:31

Oh but not cheddar, I make the bechemel with ricotta and Parmesan, then top with mozzarella and more Parmesan. When I lived with exh we usually had veggie lasagna and I used dolcheletta or similar blue cheese on top instead of mozzarella but dp doesn't like blue cheese

Baaaahhhhh · 17/10/2020 14:27

Well, as it happens I am making said Lasagna this evening, and it will not have any cheddar or morzarella anywhere near it. Just bechamel and parmesan. Also it will not be accompanied by anything other than a glass of wine Grin.

HeronLanyon · 17/10/2020 14:37

baaaahhhhh except, perhaps, perchance, a second glass of wine ???

Meatshake · 17/10/2020 17:28

When I was in Italy I ate a lasagne which was basically lasagne pasta inserted into a block of cheese with a bit of red sauce added as an afterthought and shoved in an oven.

It was the absolute tits.

YABVVVVVU!

PigletJohn · 17/10/2020 17:57

does that mean good or bad?

Ginfordinner · 17/10/2020 18:02

Lasagne - topped with parmesan is now in the oven.

Look what you started OP Grin

Same!

Mine was in a posh seafood restaurant and at that time I was fussy about fish. DH had a seafood platter which looked amazing.

I wonder if my lasagna was a little bit of a 'fuck you' from the chef. A bit like you get if you order the vegetarian option in Paris.
