Lasagna with cheese on top

RainbowRaine · 15/10/2020 18:53

Just ordered a food delivery as a treat, DH ordered a lasagna and it came with cheese on top.

I would of complained as cheese does not belong on lasagna but DH loves it as says it's meant to come with melted grated cheese on top.

I disagree and think it's just meant to have the white sauce.

Should Lasagna have cheese?

YANBU = No cheese

YABU = Yes cheese

Sometimes we add cheese and sometimes we don't.

Team Cheese

On another note, I once saw a review that gave an Italian restaurant 1star because they didn't put noodles in the lasagne - apparently that's how it's meant to be done. Hmm

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/10/2020 17:39

Noodles?

Don't the Americans call the lasagne sheets noodles?

Did they mean those or actual like egg noodles ?

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 16/10/2020 17:45

Is this a joke? Lasagna has cheese on top. That’s like complaining spaghetti bolognese that has spaghetti with it!
To see how many people are crazy enough to think you’re right?

BouleBaker · 16/10/2020 17:49

Bechemal sauce with a sprinkling of parmesan on top.

cherish123 · 16/10/2020 18:02

Bechamel sauce with added mozzarella- sometimes add cheddar

We do call the sheets lasagna noodles or just lasagna.
misskatamari · 16/10/2020 18:11

Whaaat? Of course it comes with cheese on top. What is this no cheese madness!

EmpressoftheMundane · 16/10/2020 18:21

A loooong time ago when I was living in NYC, I dated an Italian American guy. His mum and grandma put cheese on top of lasagne. His grandma was born in Sicily.

Shirls22 · 16/10/2020 18:22

The more cheese the better in the layers and on top xx

TheSeedsOfADream · 16/10/2020 18:22

In Puglia the mozzarella goes in with the bechamel (at least in the bit of Puglia I'm in). Makes it stand up rather than be sloppy. In Foggia they add boiled eggs to the mix. The idea of that truly makes me want to heave.
Mind you, was just remembering my SIL does what she calls lasagne but really is sheets of lasagne and bolognaise with no white sauce, cheese or mozzarella. It's basically pasta and sauce but the pasta is lasagne sheets.

Baaaahhhhh · 16/10/2020 18:34

Yes, well these Southern Italians Grin. As a person of Emilia Romagna origin, I stand by my no cheese, and only parmesan if you must. Also, if you want to be REALLY purist, it should be fresh lasagna, and ideally green.

Darkrainbowsquid · 16/10/2020 18:39

Can’t believe there is someone going round making lasagna WITHOUT cheese!
That’s so 2020.... Brexit, covid, wrongly cooked lasagna

snowone · 16/10/2020 18:39

Of course it has cheese on the top......deeeeeeelicious 😋

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 16/10/2020 18:40

I'm going out for lasagne later. If it doesn't have cheese I'll complain Grin

TheSeedsOfADream · 16/10/2020 18:40

Oooh we don't like that green stuff here Grin we still keep our wholemeal bread in the "quirky healthfood" aisle!
And one of my MIL's famous quotes was "I'm having none of that organic rubbish brought into this house!"

Blondiney · 16/10/2020 18:41

Well I know what I'm cooking this weekend...

FelicisNox · 16/10/2020 18:45

YABU.

I know what you're saying re: white sauce vs cheese sauce but IMO cheese sauce is for lasagna and white sauce is moussaka.

RainbowRaine · 16/10/2020 18:46

Still not adding cheese to mine.
DH can add whatever he wants to his portion.

I just really want lasagna now.
WITH A MASSIVE LAYER OF CHEESY CRUSTY GOODNESS ON THE TOP

Quartz2208 · 16/10/2020 18:53

Well yes that is how it should be. I make the best lasagna in the world for me because I know how much cheese I like, which cheese which seasonings etc. Others would not have it as the best

But you must admit that your desire to complain about something that is common place and accepted as something lasagna has the majority of the time was over the top

Justajot · 16/10/2020 19:06

We got a lovely lasagne delivered from a deli yesterday. It tasted of a tangy cheese. Any ideas what that would be? Bonus marks if Ocado sell it.

notlindabarker · 16/10/2020 19:07

@RainbowRaine May I ask how you top your pizza? Because I'm starting to worry you might be a 'ham and pineapple' kind of gal too Shock

Susan1961 · 16/10/2020 19:08

A Sprinkle of Parmesan too!
