Lasagna with cheese on top

RainbowRaine · 15/10/2020 18:53

Just ordered a food delivery as a treat, DH ordered a lasagna and it came with cheese on top.

I would of complained as cheese does not belong on lasagna but DH loves it as says it's meant to come with melted grated cheese on top.

I disagree and think it's just meant to have the white sauce.

Should Lasagna have cheese?

YANBU = No cheese

YABU = Yes cheese

Don't order a pizza op. You will be horrified. Wink

Tinkerbell1980 · 16/10/2020 19:12

Cheesy cheesy cheesefest on top of every lasagne ever Grin

TesticleMeElmo · 16/10/2020 19:21

So, um... do you have pasta in your lasagne OP? Or should lasagne be served without that as well in your opinion? Weirdo 😂😂

Dawninglory · 16/10/2020 19:32

I'm with you OP, a bechamel sauce tops a lasagna. But traditionally some home made Italian ones I've had sprinkle on parmesan 20mins before the end of cooking to get the cheese crisp 😊

MasterchefMeansRiceKrispiesFor · 16/10/2020 19:37

Sorry. I expect cheese on lasagna. I don’t even eat cheese and make a brilliant (buttery) cheese free lasagna but I know I’m weird. I’d never order it out as it’s swimming in the revolting stuff.

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 16/10/2020 19:44

“Cheese does not belong on lasagna”
“Fish don’t belong in water”
“Your organs belong in the house next door”
“Air isn’t necessary to enjoy a year of your life”

I'm intrigued...
the 3% who voted YANBU...
do you actually mean that you think the idea of cheese on top is unusual/inherently wrong? Or do you mean that YOU personally do not like or cannot eat cheese on it?

I'm just curious, because if I was for example dairy intolerant and so didn't ever have cheese on lasagna; I would still think that it SHOULD have it on and wouldn't think those who had it were being unreasonable Grin

shergar · 16/10/2020 20:14

Have you had a stroke?! Of course lasagne has cheese on top.

Dawninglory · 16/10/2020 20:30

Traditional Italian lasagna is made with bechamel sauce sprinkled with parmesan cheese. NOT cheddar! 🤢

Harls1969 · 16/10/2020 20:33

Cheese definitely belongs on a lasagne! But as someone who hates pizza and ice cream, don't take my word for it Hmm

FairFriday · 16/10/2020 20:37

My dad hated pasta. He lived in Italy as a young man so lord alone knows how he managed!

Vinomummyinlockdown · 16/10/2020 20:41

😂😂😂

Pinkfluff76 · 16/10/2020 20:45

Wtf is this for real? Or course it comes with cheese on top!! The more the better!

kennycat · 16/10/2020 20:46

Lasagne definitely needs cheese on top. I put cheese in the bechamel too thus rendering it, I guess, a cheese sauce.

I have a problem with getting lasagne from a pub when they put about a tonne of shit cheese on top so you are hopefully fooled into thinking it's homemade rather than just heated up in the microwave. And the cheese is always absolutely swimming with grease. I always ask for a lasagne in suspicious places to come without cheese on it but some cheese on the side to avoid drowning in cheese oil.

Shewhomustbeobeyed1 · 16/10/2020 20:52

YABVVVU.
I can confirm that a traditional Italian lasagna has mozzarella and Parmigiana top. Marcella Hazan says so and she is the guru

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 16/10/2020 21:32

It had so much cheeeeeeese

Lasagna with cheese on top
KooKooKachu · 16/10/2020 21:45

@Brighterthansunflowers

Love lasagne with garlic bread and chips!

But then I am from the town that created the pie barm (meat and potato pie on a bread roll) so triple carbs is the opposite of a problem to me!

Ooh Wigan Butties. Now there's a treat!
Libbyloo174 · 17/10/2020 03:00

The cheese on top is the best part!!!

I use a 3 cheese mix - cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan and its to die for!!!

amusedtodeath1 · 17/10/2020 03:16

IMO there's nothing that cannot be improved with a topping of melty cheese. Grin

Strokethefurrywall · 17/10/2020 03:28

What the holy fuck is wrong with you OP? Of course lasagne needs a layer of crispy burnt cheese.

What planet are you on?

HeronLanyon · 17/10/2020 03:34

Referring to my tatty copy of The SilverSpoon we may have north/south harmony -

Lasagne Alla Bolognese - Parmesan in internal layers ‘ending with a layer of bechemal sauce’
Lasagne alla Napoletana - Parmesan goes in the meatball (!) part. Then layering ‘ending with a layer of tomato sauce. Dot the top with the remaining butter’

The only one clearly allowing for Parmesan on top is ‘aubergine and ricotta lasagne’

What the hell - life is too short to do without some on top. Not cheddar though imo (can’t let all standards slide in current shitshow - or can we?).

MyOtherProfile · 17/10/2020 05:29

I've just trawled through lots of authentic Italian lasagne recipes and all have cheese on top. So who's right? 60 million Italians or the OP? Grin

WhyDoesItAlways · 17/10/2020 05:47

OP you need to put cheese on top of your lasagne. Any cheese you like although personally I would go with something Italian. Then when you come to eat your lasagne you remove the top pasta/bechamel/ melted cheese layer and save it till last because... IT'S THE BEST BIT!

Who goes to the faff of making a lasagne and then doesn't bother putting cheese on the top!

A lot of Italian recipes don’t ! There’s the conundrum.
