Another CF neighbour parking one...

Hello fellow Mumsnetters I have for you a CF neighbor parking issue I have included a diagram so I hope it makes sense. We live in a semi detached house which has a driveway. At the end of the driveway a footpath cuts across and then there is another drive which goes down to the road. It is long enough to fit at least 4 cars because the house is set back from the road. Relatively modern development but ours and next door are the only ones in the street with such driveway. Our boundary runs from the edge of our garage down to the main road as shown in our deeds, there is a line where the concrete has been laid on the 2nd bit of the drive but other than that there is no visible division if you see what I mean. We park our car on the drive just in line with our house. A new couple have moved in next door with 3 cars. Instead of moving one of their cars off the drive to move them around they have taken to just driving across our drive to get around it. AIBU that this is so cheeky? It's really winding me and especially my partner up. This is NOT a shared drive and they are driving across our land because they are so lazy rather than just move their cars. I wouldn't mind if they had asked or queried it but they just seem to do what they like. I've attached a picture so you can see.....hit me mumsnetters

@Bargebill19

Done it before and would do it again. Ina heartbeat. No fantasy life. Just won’t be walked over.
No, you haven’t done it before. And no, the police wouldn’t be on the HGV driver’s side because it’s illegal to block others in.
Bargebill19 · 14/10/2020 19:48

So you know me not!! Otherwise you really wouldn’t say that.

PracticingPerson · 14/10/2020 19:58

This would annoy me too. You need decent fencing, and soon.

It doesn't need to be escalated, just stopped.

Meerkatmummy4 · 14/10/2020 20:00

Ha, we tried pots to stop people driving/parking over our drive... They kept clipping them with the car. Its a pain in the arse as we have given being polite and knocking and now dp just leans on the horn

PumpkinetChocolat · 14/10/2020 20:01

true, they wouldn't, but realistically the police wouldn't do anything anyway. They don't come for a blocked drive.

PumpkinetChocolat · 14/10/2020 20:05

If my neighbour was so petty that they would block their own drive

😂😂😂

You have to be a special kind of entitled individual to write about someone basically using their OWN DRIVE inconveniencing the neighbours in the process by stopping them from trespassing.

Classic.

Yeah, I could also perfectly legally park my car on my drive in a way that would make it a total pain for my neighbour to get in and out. Because I'm entitled to! But I don't do that, because I'm not a dick.

But it’s ok for people to not ask if they could use your drive... to go ahead and use someone else’s bought and paid for property however they like without any repercussions whatsoever ever. Classic.
Might as well go and wander in the front door and use the whole house then.

Chloemol · 14/10/2020 20:39

It would annoy me. I would ask them to stop doing it as they are trespassing

I would either put a load of pots between the two drives, or park your car at the bottom bit so they are forced to move their cars

KatharinaRosalie · 14/10/2020 20:43

I don't get it though why it would annoy so many people. Surely starting and swapping cars is more annoying? And them driving over a driveway, not grass or flowerbeds, doesn't cause any damage.

Is it because they didn't ask and just assumed - so if they would have asked, you would have said yes then?

VinylDetective · 14/10/2020 20:48

@Polyxena

This would really piss me off too, OP. I’d definitely park in a way to stop them or put a fence up.

It’s quite surprising, given how hypersensitive MNers generally are to stamping down CFery, that so many people have said the OP is being petty. But AIBU was ever full of contrarians.

So there’s no place on MN for reasonable human beings who live and let live? People who aren’t territorial for the sake of it. It makes me wonder if my generation has done some pretty shit parenting as we don’t seem to have taught the concept of sharing.

Are you new here? Of course there isn't.

Lillipops · 14/10/2020 20:56

@KatharinaRosalie them starting and moving their cars etc wouldn't bother me in the slightest, it's their land and their cars they can do what they like. I think had they of mentioned the drive situation and asked if it would be ok then absolutely no problem. It's the fact they haven't and are very disrespectful In just driving across our drive. That's our property that we work very hard to pay for. We would not dream of crossing over on to their property but that's just us 😬

billy1966 · 14/10/2020 20:56

Well it would annoy me, but the builders mixing and staining my drive would make me very cross.

So cheeky.

Don’t be so silly, of course they’re not being disrespectful. It’s a drive, it’s meant to be driven on. It’s not like they’re driving across your garden 🤦‍♀️

Bargebill19 · 14/10/2020 21:11

@VivaMiltonKeynes

Or care that others have worked hard for what they have and own. Or that others might actually want exclusive use of the property they’ve bought. Or that they don’t want others to damage their property and they then have to pay for it to be rectified without even so much as an apology.

But hey let’s all just share

Bargebill19 · 14/10/2020 21:12

Written as in I agree with you!

You are the silly billy emilyfrost. The OP doesn’t live on a commune where they all let everything hang loose and live by the mantra ‘what’s mine is yours’ and all that jazz. They are two completely separate properties and in many cases they would be properly split by a wall/fence or some other boundary. Just because there is no visible boundary it doesn’t mean some CF neighbour can drive across their property as and when they like without asking. It is a drive and meant to be driven on by the owners 🙄.
HauntedPencil · 14/10/2020 21:19

This really wouldn't bother me at all.

But it's your drive. I'd just park in such a way to make it hard for them to do it rather than day anything.

I'd be more annoyed with the car chess that's going to take place with the various cars being moved on and off tbh!

That’s not very nice, my dad’s neighbours are tenants and there is no border at all between the two drives, just different paving. Both drives fit 4 big cars each and the neighbours are so nice, sometimes I’m blocked in by a sibling and the neighbour says I can use their drive to get out.

The difference is these neighbours offered, I would never do it if they hadn’t. They care just as much about their drive as my dad who owns the house does. So does my sister who is a tenant too. She keeps an immaculate house and garden, even bleach washing her bin weekly!
