Inspired slightly by the saveloy thread and those no longer able to attain one.

I went to Key West 6 years ago and I’m still dreaming about the fish tacos. I’ve tried making myself and I can’t get it right. Not a single place in my Midlands city sells fish tacos. I so want them to become popular - can you Deliveroo them in London?

Also Vietnamese. Went to a fab restaurant in China Town and again have had various attempts but not been very successful.

What are you craving that’s hard to get hold of?

Butter tarts, (Montreal) salt beef sandwich, pumpkin pie or cheesecake at this time of year, coffee crisp chocolate bar, guess where my stomach wish I lived 🍁

On holiday in Cyprus last year had the most amazing huge prawns in garlic butter.

Went to that restaurant 5 times!!

@Guineapigbridge

Halva. I hardly ever see it sold here.
There’s an international shop near me that sells Halva - I bought some as it was in an Xbox game I was playing. It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever eaten tbh!

All the Danish foods: sweets, pastries, hot dogs, liquorice, a proper Danish Julefrokost (Christmas lunch/dinner).

Frikadeller like my grandmother used to make them...

PolaDeVeboise · 13/10/2020 13:52

A smoked chicken spaghetti dish I had in Byron Bay whilst backpacking - it was AMAZING.

MaryShelley1818 · 13/10/2020 15:10

Fresh crab sandwiches from Holy Island
Orange Chicken and Crispy Beef from Panda Express (US)
Blooming Onion Loaf or Crispy Spicy Prawn starter from Tony Roma (US)
Spicy Breaded Chicken sandwich and Red Velvet Cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory (US)

I haven't been to the US since 2015 and a divorce, a marriage and 2 children later (well DC number 2 due January) and I'm desperate to return!

CatherinedeBourgh · 13/10/2020 15:12

Halloumi.

And japanese food (though I do make some myself).

goose1964 · 13/10/2020 15:14

Thai food, a have a chinese, Indian and cafes/ pubs here. It's become a seeing anniversary thing to go out for the day to a restaurant that does decent thai

Tunnocks34 · 13/10/2020 15:25

My frat nana used to make these potato cakes with left over mash, veggie, chicken - all friend in beef dripping.

God they were amazing but I can to replicate it myself

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 13/10/2020 15:29

Ooh yes takeaway Japanese food. Sushi, miso soup, all of it.
Also, rye bread. The risen stuff. I can't eat wheat, & it's seemingly impossible/unprofitable to make & sell rye bread without wheat in. I miss sandwiches...

We are having fish & chips tonight. With scraps. Hahaha! They do a gluten free option for the fish batter & it's delicious, you'd never guess.

MyCatHatesEverybody · 13/10/2020 16:06

Bolo de Caco bread from Madeira
Fish and chips from a tiny riverside cafe in Llangollen
Cheese filled bratwurst from Austria
Proper dim sum from anywhere!

willowmelangell · 13/10/2020 16:11

Lardy cake.

TristanFarnon · 13/10/2020 16:14

Edinburgh Salt n Sauce on chips and deep fried pizza. Divine.

Slightly more exotic, authentic chicken schwarma.

And cronuts...

PolarBearStrength · 13/10/2020 16:22

Japanese takeaway from near where I used to live.

An omelette made by the man we referred to as ‘the omelette man’ for an entire two week holiday in Mexico. I had one every morning. You picked all your bits and bobs, he fried you a lovely thin omelette and all your peppers, meat etc., put the stuff in the middle with a whole load of cheese and then folded it up. It was INCREDIBLE. And I’ve never managed to properly replicate it.

The donuts from the same breakfast buffet as above.

Proper tapas.

A pork burrito with pear salsa, black beans, rice, cheese, and salad from a place that no longer exists.

Various school dinners 😳

I have a very strong ‘taste memory’ if that’s a thing?!

FairFriday · 13/10/2020 16:24

Pan loaf (I know, I know).

HavelockVetinari · 13/10/2020 16:29

Craquelins with brittany sea-salt butter!

Decent sashimi.

Turfaccountant · 13/10/2020 17:36

Lemon and lime slush puppy, you can keep your red and blue ones, L &L all the way

sdg31000 · 13/10/2020 21:36

Another vote here for Burger King mushroom double Swiss burgers.
Also M&S pistachio chicken korma and extra spicy hot cross buns.
Having moved all of 60 miles away from home, I really miss orange chips. Nowhere in Leicester makes decent chips.

workhomesleeprepeat · 13/10/2020 21:40

@PolarBearStrength omg I totally understand what you mean by “taste memory” - some people process colour or sound a certain way, but I feel like I remember tastes and foods soooo clearly and specifically

Laaalaaaa · 13/10/2020 21:48

Butteries.

nancybotwinbloom · 13/10/2020 21:50

What's a butterie?

Taco Bell we have none in Liverpool
