Inspired slightly by the saveloy thread and those no longer able to attain one.

I went to Key West 6 years ago and I’m still dreaming about the fish tacos. I’ve tried making myself and I can’t get it right. Not a single place in my Midlands city sells fish tacos. I so want them to become popular - can you Deliveroo them in London?

Also Vietnamese. Went to a fab restaurant in China Town and again have had various attempts but not been very successful.

What are you craving that’s hard to get hold of?

Also I can't believe other chip shops don't do scraps! Is it a north east thing?!

Glitterbubbles · 12/10/2020 21:40

Oooh and cake pops in the US

MillieVanilla · 12/10/2020 21:41

@kateybeth79

Walkers Tomato Ketchup crisps - they reappear every now and then, and then disappear again. Marble chocolate bar - discontinued years ago. Junior Mints - had them in the US and became obsessed with them!!
You can currently get those on the approved food website, I bought some for my ketchup obsessed DD to try

Flavoured crisps and Bombay Mix as well. In Bombay (where it isn’t called Bombay Mix!) they had shops lined with jars like old fashioned sweetshops with different varieties.

Prawn Cocktail skips would win in a fight though.

Howlooseisyourgoose · 12/10/2020 21:45

@inchyra Tesco has about 10 different varieties of Bombay Mix! I am in London tho.

30not13 · 12/10/2020 21:48

Brownings sell Scottish goodies online for those missing stuff :)

cafenoirbiscuit · 12/10/2020 21:49

Goldfish crackers. And crunchy Cheetos. Actually, scrap that. I’d be huge 😊😂

inchyra · 12/10/2020 21:50

@Howlooseisyourgoose We are in Wandsworth so we do okay Grin.

maryberryslayers · 12/10/2020 21:50

Proper American nacho cheese sauce. I'm pregnant and a neeeeed it.

stokiemum62 · 12/10/2020 21:51

And another vote for Staffordshire oatcakes. I always get a few dozen to freeze when I go to visit my mum, not the same as fresh from the oatcake shop on a Sunday though.

AGnu · 12/10/2020 22:04

Proper Mexican food. I've never been to Mexico, doubt I'll ever get to go, but I imagine the food can be better than Chiquitos, although I'd settle for that... There's no Mexican places round here so I have to make my own which is more time consuming than chucking fish fingers in the oven, & less popular with the kids.

magimedi · 12/10/2020 22:07

Rowies. It's 20+ year since I lived in Aberdeen & I still miss them.

I have struggled to find much decent food in Sri Lanka- maybe better in London.
Did you eat well when you were in Sri Lanka?

moonbells · 12/10/2020 22:13

I came on the thread to say tomato sausages and discovered I'm not alone.

When I go to visit my dad, I always take a freezer box and stock up on them, or did until lockdown. That and Hendo's relish (which you can now - finally - get in my local Asda!)

MyPersona · 12/10/2020 22:16

A fishcake butty, aka a Sheffield fishcake in a buttered breadcake. Haven’t had one since I was a student and that was a very long time ago.

Lincslady53 · 12/10/2020 22:18

Haslet. I pick some up on visiting my family in Lincolnshire, but can't get over with vivid restrictions

Antonov · 12/10/2020 22:20

Wild salmon and asparagus pasties from the organic shop in the corner of the market square in Stow-on-the-Wold. Long since destocked and the lady who owns, or owned, it may even no longer be there.

Like no other.

Iheardarumour · 12/10/2020 22:23

Indonesian food in Amsterdam. I ate so much of it in my youth. Just give me a huge bowl of chicken satay and I can die happy.

cujo · 12/10/2020 22:28

@noideaatallreally

Gypsy tart - I know they sell it in Kent, but can't get it in Wales. My gran used to make this for me and I have not tasted it in 3 decades!

Decent clam chowder. In Boston USA they sell it in a bowl made of bread - heaven.

Gypsy tart is super easy to make. Buy Tesco’s sweet pastry case (it’s taller and softer than most other supermarkets) whisk 8oz soft brown sugar or muscavado sugar with one tin (170g) evaporated milk til bubbly. Pour into case and bake at 100-120degreesC for 30 mins. Turn oven off but leave inside to cool without opening door. Foolproof
Iheardarumour · 12/10/2020 22:36

Can I have another? Pastels di Nata from Belem, a suburb of Lisbon Portugal. They are so expensive to buy in England, but six costs about a euro 50 there. I ate my bodyweight of the things, and brought back six packs to share with family back home.

seayork2020 · 12/10/2020 22:41

Parmo's and real proper fish and chips

cheesecurdsandgravy · 12/10/2020 22:42

Poutine. Proper poutine with squeaky cheese curds and gravy that’s not Bisto... if it could be -15 outside too, that would be perfect.

ChristmasArmadillo · 12/10/2020 22:42

@maryberryslayers it’s heavy cream, cheese, cornstarch and seasonings! My pregnancy craving also and I convince myself I’m making healthy choices by making it at home. Grin

unchienandalusia · 12/10/2020 22:43

Poutine for me too. I used to get it at the street food market in London Victoria when I worked there. God it was amazing. Chips. Cheese curds. Gravy. Chilli sauce. Sounds rank but is to die for.

antwacky · 12/10/2020 22:43

Bacon ribs.
