Standing in massive queues for over an hour to buy fancy cakes is just ridiculous ?

@tearstainedbakes

Does anyone know what the OP is on about?
No. Grin
lljkk · 11/10/2020 10:01

It'll all end in tiers.

pmsl.

So Queneing is poor moral behaviour now? The most British thing possible is not allowed??

You'll be banning animal lovers, gardens, cuppas & football terrace chants next, OP.

Lockdownseperation · 11/10/2020 10:02

@Nicknacky

Does it really matter what she was queuing for as long as there was social distancing?

Ronia · 11/10/2020 10:06

I know someone who runs two very fancy Cake shops. The stress for her and her family during lockdown was enormous as they couldn't open. I'm really hoping she has queues for her cakes now and I'm sure her staff would be happy to see them too!

Oh I really wish MN did awards 😁😁

The bakery in Glasgow is called Big Bear Bakery but there are similar places across the city that also attract long, long queues. Recommend it when the queues are a bit shorter!

AllPlayedOut · 11/10/2020 10:51

CherryPieface Thank you. I may have to go on a bakery tour of the city soon.

Timeforabiscuit · 11/10/2020 11:00

I have frozen cake... Its not the same Sad

I would very much like a fancy cake shop please!

CreamCabbages · 11/10/2020 11:04

That's the thing nobody would go and stand in a queue for hours for medicine. They would go back when it was safer

Queuing is not a high risk activity, so long as people adhere to social distancing.

I queue for the chemist and the post office. I do try to time visits at quieter times so the queue is shorter. It saves me time, but doesn’t make it any safer.

Also, the chemist and post office won’t run out of cake! I would definitely wait in a long bakery queue if the cake was good.

cantdothisnow1 · 11/10/2020 11:07

I was on the Isle of Skye last week and there was an enormous queue for Jann's Cakes. It's was well worth it, the most delicious home made cakes I've tasted for a long time!

Not so sure that Alton Towers cakes would be so worth the wait.

BeakyWinder · 11/10/2020 11:08

Just had to check this thread wasn't a zombie from March..

OP people have moved on. They understand that the risks are tiny from this virus. Queuing for a cake is not dangerous, and those brainwashed into being terrified of a queue are quite worrying.

beela · 11/10/2020 11:09

Cake, you say?

Scaraffito · 11/10/2020 11:09

Queueing for cake is not a 'high risk activity', and in honesty it's not like there's as much stuff as usual to be doing, so what's wrong with people waiting an hour? Good for them for supporting a business.

Belladonna12 · 11/10/2020 11:11

The cakes must be very very nice if people are willing to queue for that long. There is a cake place like that near me. I haven't queued myself (I'm not that bothered about cake) but we have very low covid rates compared with the rest of the city which doesn't have nice cake shops. This leads me to think that the cake shop is not causing a surge infections.

TheRealJeanLouise · 11/10/2020 11:11

Ooooo somebody woke up sucking on lemons this morning!

I’d totally queue up for a patisserie cake if it meant that it would bring my family some enjoyment and happiness, whilst living through this shit show of a year. A good cake is worth a queue. I imagine OP hasn’t had a really good posh cake before.

SecretSpAD · 11/10/2020 11:33

Personally I can't stand cake - but I'm married to a man who will travel miles and queue for hours for a slice of cake from Bettys so yes, for some people it is essential.

Now he's discovered they do online orders it's Christmas every day GrinGrin

lljkk · 11/10/2020 11:42

12yo DS says his fantasy future involves running & owning a bakery (after a 10-20 year career first as elite athlete, of course). I'll install myself as chief of quality control. :)

Mothertocrazy91 · 11/10/2020 11:49

I am pretty strict on the whole covid rules haha and even I don’t see an issue with this

BrowncoatWaffles · 11/10/2020 11:56

@ValiaH

The cake is a lie

Tbh though, I probably would queue for really good cake, especially if the kids are home with DH- peace, fresh air (assuming I'm outside) and cake at the end of it. Lovely.

Oh @ValiaH you are my people!

This thread is glorious. Although I'm now hiding in the kitchen cooking a roast while eating cake in secret.

1940s · 11/10/2020 11:57

A THREE MILE QUEUE?!?! can't believe that at all!!!

Notthetoothfairy · 11/10/2020 12:01

I haven’t RTWT but think OP is encouraging you all to buy fancy cakes from her garden, 6 at a time 😁

Ihatefish · 11/10/2020 12:03

I think you need to take a deep breath and deal with your anger -maybe talk to someone it sounds like you are overly anxious. It’s all a balance. Standing in a long queue presumably outside, probably all facing the same way is v low risk. Meeting up with people you know in a private space is higher risk. Couple of glasses of wine, then you forget to distance a couple more and it’s a hug goodbye. Pop in to use the loo, sneeze and the bathroom is infected. It’s quite easy to see the reasons behind the difference. In private spaces people are more likely to deviate from the rules

Thedogscollar · 11/10/2020 12:09

Was Bojo serving then whilst shouting Let them eat cakeGrin
