Standing in massive queues for over an hour to buy fancy cakes is just ridiculous ?

OP posts:
Mychitchatdays · 11/10/2020 00:08

I know of a bakery that pre lockdown was crazy with queues, thankfully now they are online and I can order treats to my door.

Busybrain2020 · 11/10/2020 00:09

Really depends on the cake tbh.

MorrisZapp · 11/10/2020 00:09

I was queuing for ages at the Lobster Shack in North Berwick once and the guy came out and said 'I'm sorry everyone, we have no stock left, sorry to disappoint you all, hope you'll come back another day' and I swear the people didn't believe him and kept queuing. For non existent seafood.

Was it like that?

Coldilox · 11/10/2020 00:09

Since when was cake non-essential?

LaurieFairyCake · 11/10/2020 00:12

FFS

JUST LET THEM EAT CAKE 🙄

Giraffey1 · 11/10/2020 00:17

This thread has cheered me up no end!
For the record, though, I wouldn’t have been in that queue .. I don’t like cake!

Juniperandrage · 11/10/2020 00:19

So like, cake AND death, then?

amusedtodeath1 · 11/10/2020 00:21

Did someone say cake? Cake

Grin
liverbird10 · 11/10/2020 00:24

Cake or death?
Cake

Nikhedonia · 11/10/2020 00:24

Cake is a Goddamn essential item. Marie Antoinette knew it, the tax office knew it. Cake is life.

GrinGrinGrin

All this thread has made me want to do is stand in a queue for some cake.

ItIsEnola · 11/10/2020 00:25

I'm laughing at the idea people didn't queue for medicine. Pharmacists have had to call the police because the queues were so long and people weren't social distancing.

I too would like to know about the amazing Glasgow bakery. I wouldn't queue for 3 hrs for cake but might be able to persuade DH to Grin

hopelesschildren · 11/10/2020 00:27

Some really funny posts, really cheering me up😁

MJMG2015 · 11/10/2020 00:32

Cake. Hmmmmmmm 🎂🍰

It had better be the most amazing, moist, incredible cake to warrant queuing!

Given I'll have to que next week for my flu jab, I'll assume the NHS don't see it as a risk!

I know which I'd rather que for!!

ClinkyMonkey · 11/10/2020 00:42

Awk, let people have a bit of cake for Christ's sake.

Is it chocolate cake? I would queue for chocolate cake. Especially if it had those fancy chocolate curly shavings on top. I might even wait up to an extra hour for three layers of sponge as opposed to yer bog standard two.

stayathomer · 11/10/2020 00:45

Mmmm .... cake!!

1forAll74 · 11/10/2020 00:50

I don't like cakes, fancy or not. The quaint village shop here sells them, and people buy one or two, then take them home, arrange them on a china plate, photograph them, then post them on facebook. Then 20 people will reply to them saying just YUM YUM.

oakleaffy · 11/10/2020 00:52

It will be hash cake.
Hence the queues.

midlifecrash · 11/10/2020 00:59

oooooooh this hurts my head. why not queue up if you want the cake? do you mean because it's not essential dried goods? why are you bothered? why not sell and buy cake? and I WANT cake and i have not got one. Sad

Lillyhatesjaz · 11/10/2020 01:04

I am very impatient and hate queueing for anything, especially as I could make cake in less than an hour.

icklekid · 11/10/2020 01:10

I fear this is actually a big marketing ploy and op will eventually name the cake shop in the hope mn will flock and cause a 3h queue... good luck op hope the cake is good 👍

BritWifeinUSA · 11/10/2020 01:27

How do you know they were queuing for an hour? How to you know they were queuing for cakes? If it was a bakery they could have been queuing for bread or any other bakery item. You seem to be very involved in this. Are you aiming for your “Super COVID Patrol” badge?

That said, I’d happily queue an hour for a nice slice of Black Forest cake. I hope they all enjoyed their cakes. Why are you begrudging them something that makes them happy?

LaMarschallin · 11/10/2020 07:40

It'll all end in tiers.

lazylinguist · 11/10/2020 07:45

YABU. You can't expect people to stop doing the things they are totally allowed to do. Oh and BTW, the virus doesn't know or care what you're queuing for. Nor does it choose whom to infect on the basis of how fancy their cakes are.

trollopolis · 11/10/2020 07:49

That's the thing nobody would go and stand in a queue for hours for medicine

said by someone who has never waited in a hospital pharmacy for a hospital-only prescription. Though to be fair, there are chairs if you arrive before all are taken

Pumpertrumper · 11/10/2020 07:59

I’m fed up of all the Pearl clutching Covid threads.

‘The midst of a pandemic’ has been 6 months long and counting.

The ‘midst’ of this pandemic will continue until either a vaccination is produced (this could take years, or never happen at all) or enough people are exposed to it that a level of heard immunity is developed (people will die for this to happen just as they have from every other plague/pandemic throughout history).

Thinking you have the moral right to tell other people to put their whole lives on hold for years (potentially forever) because you don’t want to catch a virus is ... well it’s entitled CF’ery of the highest order. We have to return to an element of normality.

If you want to lock yourselves in your home and isolate from the world then you are entitled to do that.
