Standing in massive queues for over an hour to buy fancy cakes is just ridiculous ?

Cake ? Where? Lead me to it, especially if it’s heavy on the chocolate! 🧁
I’d queue, but it need to be huge, a proper 4-5 layers, with extra chocolate, and massive slices, not some anaemic, tiny cupcake.
In lockdown, we were queuing for everything, but at least cake is a totally wonderful experience at the end, unlike having to line up for bleach and bog roll.🧻

It's too early for Cake - where's the Brew ?

AuntieStella · 11/10/2020 08:02

@LaMarschallin

It'll all end in tiers.

yes takes me back to the ‘milk and bread are NOT essentials’ comments. Probably one of the most hilarious comments I’ve read on MN

Honestly you should really have your own cow and flour mill set up at home so you don’t need to buy it elsewhere, it’s much better*

I think you were meant to have water on your cereal and cream cheese or yoghurt in tea and coffee Confused, cant remember what the alternative to bread was....(although most MN think bread is evil anyway) rather than break rank and visit the shops for a 2nd time in a week which was a law people made up along with you could only exercise for an hour

@AuntieStella

It's too early for Cake - where's the Brew ?
My lovely cake-making mother used to say it’s never too early for cake Wink
AllPlayedOut · 11/10/2020 08:12

I just got an advert for raw cakes! Who wants a raw cake? I feel so insulted.

Palavah · 11/10/2020 08:12

We need to know more about the cake.

TW2013 · 11/10/2020 08:13

Well I guess being obese is a a risk factor so no you are not being unreasonable tell people not to queue for cake, you should just get them to send all the cake to me .

Bonniface · 11/10/2020 08:18

There’s a fancy bakery close to my work which often has a huge queue these days. It’s huge because only one person is allowed in the shop at a time and people stand 2m apart. They’re willing to queue because the bakery is a local institution and people would be devastated if it went under.

I honestly don’t see the issue. It’s socially distanced, and it’s supporting a wonderful local business. We can’t let the entire world end for the sake of further minimising an already low risk until coronavirus ends.

Sexnotgender · 11/10/2020 08:19

More interested in what type of cake we’re talking here?

lockeddownandcrazy · 11/10/2020 08:20

One persons need is anothers non essential. its ok to queue for what you personally see as essential - like people in a mile long queue for alcolhol as they 'need' it but they dont. cake is in the same category. How long is a long queue - is it in time or in people?

newmumwithquestions · 11/10/2020 08:20

Dammit now I want cake for breakfast.

I rarely like shop cakes. Too artificial with that horrible royal icing. But freshly made ‘real’ cakes...Dammit. Where is cake?

I think this is a ploy from the cake marketing board.

Jaffa?
KihoBebiluPute · 11/10/2020 08:27

I have just read 114 posts of this thread and not once has any link been posted to explain where these cakes are and how I can get one. Please provide a link OP.

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 11/10/2020 08:34

Now I REALLY want cake. 🍰
Where is the end of the queue?

TwentyViginti · 11/10/2020 08:40

@BewareTheBeardedDragon

Is it ok to eat cake out if one hasn't queued? Is it only queuing that is high risk, or cake in general?
Cake is very high risk to my already fat arse.
GrandTheftWalrus · 11/10/2020 08:40

I want cake 🎂

itchyfinger · 11/10/2020 08:42

Coronavirus has really brought out the worst in society - the busy bodies, the judgey pants, the snitches and the moaners. MYOB and eat more cake.

tearstainedbakes · 11/10/2020 08:42

Does anyone know what the OP is on about?

itchyfinger · 11/10/2020 08:45

Another one here who is fed up of reading "in the middle of a global pandemic" on MN. Really? Technically yes, but for the most part we can get on with our lives with minimal risk, we can go to the pub, cinema, and even the supermarket for cake. It's not doomsday ffs.

Well where I am the only thing on your list we can really do is queue for cake! Smile
MidnightFlit · 11/10/2020 08:59

The line out of Greggs yesterday was at least twelve strong. If that many people will queue up for a flat sausage roll then I can only imagine the stampede for a decent slice of cake.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 11/10/2020 09:04

@ZezetteEpouseX

Gail's Bakery in Hackney was mentioned in the DM but that was back in April... where else could that be.
Gails Bakery is opening near me soon. I got all exited at the OP and thought I’d missed the opening day! I haven’t. Perphew!

I bloody love Greggs sausage rolls.

When the kids were younger and I managed to leave them at home (with the husband) and go to the shop I'd stay an extra half hour and just sit in the car park with a Greggs sausage roll.

Fucking brilliant.

Teakind · 11/10/2020 09:11

I'd love some cake now. Totally worth queuing for.
