Standing in massive queues for over an hour to buy fancy cakes is just ridiculous ?

OP posts:
Sparklesocks · 10/10/2020 23:38

OP did you possibly want cake, get annoyed about the size of the queue and leave in a huff?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 10/10/2020 23:39

Is this a stealth 'lighthearted' thread? Providing pandemics lols? Good stuff, it's working. Did they have fancy pavlova or was it just the cake?

heidipi · 10/10/2020 23:40

Just tell is where this happened (and if people in the queue were SDing) FFS please

JohnnyKarateForever · 10/10/2020 23:40

People queue a long time for Bettys. I’ve done it and the cake was delicious Grin

VanGoghsDog · 10/10/2020 23:42

If it only takes an hour to get from the back of a three mile queue to the front, then that is a very fast moving queue.

And it surely counts as enough exercise to burn off the cake!

Time2change2 · 10/10/2020 23:42

😂 yes takes me back to the ‘milk and bread are NOT essentials’ comments. Probably one of the most hilarious comments I’ve read on MN

RaspberryToupee · 10/10/2020 23:43

Oh, OP, this isn’t going how you wanted is it? Frothing about non-essential items and hoping everyone would join you in the witch hunt when actually you’ll be the subject of the witch hunt because you won’t tell anyone where to find the cake. Especially when it’s fancy cake. Grin

Smellbellina · 10/10/2020 23:43

Also, maypole dancing. And much as I hate to admit it maybe Morris dancing too?

Honestly you should really have your own cow and flour mill set up at home so you don’t need to buy it elsewhere, it’s much better Wink
BewareTheBeardedDragon · 10/10/2020 23:44

Is it ok to eat cake out if one hasn't queued? Is it only queuing that is high risk, or cake in general?

ZezetteEpouseX · 10/10/2020 23:45

Where is that place! If there are cakes worth queuing for 3 hours, I want in!

and I have had exclusive online shopping since the beginning, but Tesco is not worth queuing for 3 hours.

I would be worried they would ran out before I reach it, seriously what is this place selling unlimited exclusive cakes so much in demand!

Are these the causes of the pandemic? Damn

to be fair, there are not quite in the same category as pain killer or formula, so the context would be interesting.
CherryPieface · 10/10/2020 23:49

Are you in Glasgow OP? We have a mad hipster bakery near us and the queues are ridiculous! But I like that people queue - supporting a very local business. And when it’s not so busy,I have been known to queue myself. Lovely bread.

AllPlayedOut · 10/10/2020 23:51

What's this Glasgow hipster bakery please? I need to know.

Thurmanmurman · 10/10/2020 23:51

YABU.

AllPlayedOut · 10/10/2020 23:52

And even more importantly. Do they have cake?

LittleBrownBaby · 10/10/2020 23:56

I am pregnant. And hungry. Will people stop taking about the posh cake and just tell me where to go to get some.

StanfordPines · 10/10/2020 23:57

@veraismyspiritanimal

That's the thing nobody would go and stand in a queue for hours for medicine. They would go back when it was safer
What is what ‘thing’? And yes people did queue for medicine. Do you not remember?
ZezetteEpouseX · 10/10/2020 23:59

veraismyspiritanimal

tell us where to find these fancy cakes!

Please.

TartanSlippers · 10/10/2020 23:59

what the heck are you on about

Quite. Give us a clue, OP.

What queue? Where? Who was in it? For how long? Indoors or outdoors? Masks or no masks? Social distancing or not?

But mainly... What sort of cake are we talking here?

StanfordPines · 11/10/2020 00:01

@VanGoghsDog

That’s true. I walk 3 miles every day and that takes about 45 minutes. So a 3 mile queue that takes and hour is moving fairly quickly, for a queue.
ZezetteEpouseX · 11/10/2020 00:02

Gail's Bakery in Hackney was mentioned in the DM but that was back in April... where else could that be.

ValiaH · 11/10/2020 00:05

The cake is a lie

Tbh though, I probably would queue for really good cake, especially if the kids are home with DH- peace, fresh air (assuming I'm outside) and cake at the end of it. Lovely.

valtandsinegar · 11/10/2020 00:05

When everything's going to shit, a bit of fancy cake is worth queueing for IMO.
