I've got C19. Why is my DH now pretending to be ill??

I developed mild symptoms Monday (loss of smell, then taste a few days later) have felt a bit out of sorts but generally fine. Ordered home test anyway. Kept kids off school/nursery as precaution. Husband refused to isolate- "I'm not unwell. No symptoms. Why should I?!" In fairness he works outside and no contact with other others so not really a risk but not the point.

I've been extremely tired all week but thought it was migraine related. Imagine my shock to receive a positive Covid19 test today!

Literally the second I received it, DH has decided he is now absolutely desperately unwell. Has been ill for 2 weeks (err, no you haven't!!) Needs to rest over the next few days and has been generally painful to listen to all day.

I'm still feeling exhausted but getting on with it. He has absolutely no C19 symptoms but as with his usual attacks of hypochondria, I have to suck it up and get on with it. Including taking care of our 1&2 year old ds's whilst he sits on his fucking arse.

Aibu to expect him to grow the fuck up and help and that until he gets a positive test to assume he doesn't have it?! He was honestly 100% fine until my results came back.

This is awful.

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/10/2020 10:06

You're around day 8 now, arent you OP? This is when it gets worse. For now, forget about the piece of shit you live with and concentrate on yourself and getting better. You need to rest, drink plenty and keep an eye on your breathing. If your dd has to facilitate this by looking after you and the little ones that's ok for this week. Make it up to her later.

Piece of shit will keep for a week, dont waste energy on him.

Comefromaway · 12/10/2020 10:10

So he'd prefer to risk you passing COVID onto your two childen due to you being the one to be caring for them when threre is chance that if he and they isolate in a different part of the house they might not get it?

Knob.

dinosaurusmum · 12/10/2020 10:13

Yes, day 8. cough getting worse and chest more painful today. He and kids asymptomatic but he's declared that as he's got it too, we're equal.

Honestly I'm cringing for him.

@dinosaurusmum

Predictably, his test came back positive. But he didn't get a text or email confirmation. They told him over the phone yesterday afternoon apparently.

To my shame I actually don't believe him.

He's still absolutely fuming with me. Says he was justified in going to bed as he was tired. I have repeatedly told him that is not a symptom and without my positive result, he would not have been eligible for a test on the basis of that. He then bleated about his "fever" (36.9) I've told him that is within a normal range but it falls on deaf ears. He's still asymptotic.

I've mentally checked out of this relationship. There is absolutely no getting through to him whatsoever.

Test results do not come back by phone. We found that out when someone prank called a girl in my dd's halls of residence telling her her test was positive. (the negative test came back 1 day later).

Test results come by text/email only.

TwentyViginti · 12/10/2020 10:20

My dd has just told me that no such call was made or received last night. She was with him until he fell asleep on the couch at about 10pm(.

And there we have it.

NameChangeAgain222 · 12/10/2020 10:23

He's lying the results come by phone or email only. They wouldn't give you results over the phone, they're sent out as soon as they're ready so they wouldn't just be sat there anyway.

Cringing isn't what I'd be doing for him.

This is so horrible, OP. He hasn't got your back and he isn't there when you need him.

EvilPea · 12/10/2020 10:35

Shit.

I’ve always said the person you should settle down with is the one who would wipe your arse if you needed it. I stand by that.
This twat would shove his in your face first.

I’m so sorry he’s a shit bag that thought it was ok to endanger your kids. Keep well and deal with this when your better.

RandomMess · 12/10/2020 10:37

As you are "equal" you can look after one child each...

OMG how have you not kicked him out!!

Is he going to take 2 weeks off work on the pretence of having Covid and increase the risk of the DC catching it???

I would tell him you know he is lying abs you have zero respect for him.

Rumbletumbleinmytummy · 12/10/2020 10:42

Ugh what a weak, slimy little man. All a bit like a spoilt 8 year old whose mum isnt well.

You deserve so much better. It's funny that your DD has the measure of him

Lolaloveslemonade · 12/10/2020 10:45

My God. Get rid of him.
He is a nasty piece of work.
This is just grim:
Not tired enough to tell me to go fuck myself when I asked if he planned to see to his son

GinandGingerBeer · 12/10/2020 10:48

Wow. He's really gone too far with this. I hope you're feeling better soon OP.

When my DD had covid-19 and her breathing was getting bad, I requested the GP prescribe a reliver inhaler (ventolin), which helped her breathe and eased the coughing. The coughing was because she couldn't breathe.

I hope you feel better soon. I'm so sorry your H is so awful.

dinosaurusmum · 12/10/2020 10:55

Feel like fucking screaming. He's on the phone now organising to take his van in for a repair. Told him he is under no circumstances to leave the house. It is illegal. We cannot afford the fine. It's dangerous and irresponsible... etc etc.

"It will be fine. I'll wear my mask"

For fucks sake.

grapewine · 12/10/2020 10:56

It just gets worse. What a lying bastard. I'm so sorry.

Icantstopeatinglol · 12/10/2020 10:57

Op, I would be threatening to call the police if he’s so certain he’s tested positive and is happy to spread this awful virus to people who could have vulnerable people at home.
He’s awful!!

RandomMess · 12/10/2020 10:58

At which point you confront him and say you know he is lying and know he isn't feeling ill and that he gives no crap about you and no crap about the DC catching it.

AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

Lolaloveslemonade · 12/10/2020 10:58

I couldn’t live with such an arsehole.
I absolutely hate him on your behalf OP.

PeppaPrick · 12/10/2020 10:58

If he goes out lock the door behind him. What an absolute arse.

Lolaloveslemonade · 12/10/2020 10:59

Tell him if he leaves the house you will report him.

grapewine · 12/10/2020 11:02

Your update shows what a lying, selfish fucker he is. My god, how awful.

ShebaShimmyShake · 12/10/2020 11:07

You can't live like this, OP. Despite the fine, I'd be so tempted to shop him. It's an appalling disregard for the health and safety of you, your kids and any network of people he crosses.

BrowncoatWaffles · 12/10/2020 11:07

This is just so horrible. I'm so sorry Dino. How're you feeling today? Were you able to sleep much?

ladycarlotta · 12/10/2020 11:14

how can he have it both ways? If he's positive, he isolates. If he's negative and out and about as usual, he can look after the kids. But being both positive and out and about isn't an option.

LTB, OP. We'll all be cheering you on.
