The name ‘Gabriella‘..immediate thoughts?

Doesn’t have to be one of the adjectives above..obviously

Hmm. I know a few boys called 'Gabe' so I would assume that's what your DD's name may be abbreviated to.

foxtiger · 10/10/2020 11:00

I think it's beautiful.

I prefer the short form spelt Gaby, not Gabby, partly because that is used in France and Germany so it makes me think of cool stylish European girls, and partly because I see Gabby and think "scabby"!

Janevaljane · 10/10/2020 11:03

I don't like any names that end with Ella.

TeenPlusTwenties · 10/10/2020 11:17

High School Musical
Spanish
Exotic
Cool & confident

NameChange84 · 10/10/2020 11:22

I’d use it and I’m a fussy bugger. I really dislike Gabby though, but I met a “briella” and “Elle” or “Ella” work. I have a slight preference for Gabrielle as it’s a little more elegant in my opinion.

Cookies2523 · 10/10/2020 11:27

My granddaughter aged 2 is called Gabriella but we all call her Bella. She really "suits" her name.

Janegrey333 · 10/10/2020 11:27

@thepeopleversuswork

I can't stand the word "classy" it's the exact opposite of it

Totally agree. Anyone who seeks to name a child deliberately to be classy, is, by definition, naff as fuck...

Anyway digress. I think this is a pretty name and I don't mind Gabby (or Gabi).

More to the point, if you like it, screw what random people on the internet think.

I don’t think you are meant to take “classy” literally. Maybe the word traditional or biblical could be substituted. It’s the opposite of what you call “ naff as etc”, anyway. A classy name has positive connotations and I think Gabriella fits into that category. Gabrielle is lovely, too.
CatMagic · 10/10/2020 11:28

I don't agree with this relatively new mentality of discussing people's names and pulling them apart. It's weird. It's backwards. Why wouldn't I comment on someone's name? The same reason I wouldn't comment on their heritage, or family, or eyebrows, or colour of their skin. It's just wrong on any civilised level.

HeronLanyon · 10/10/2020 11:34

Immediate thoughts. Here in England -
Not classic.
Bit fussy.
Very slightly naff.

If an Italian woman -
Slightly old fashioned
Classic
Lovely. Suits the accent partic well.

Camomila · 10/10/2020 11:34

I like it, it's a very normal name to me (Italian) - usually known as Gabri or Lella.

Also DS1s best nursery friend's name.

Angelina82 · 10/10/2020 11:35

Which name does she suit, Gabriella or Bella?

TheFuckingDogs · 10/10/2020 11:36

Classy and pretty

TheDuchessofMalfy · 10/10/2020 11:43

We do sometime use the Italian short form Gabri too.

TheDuchessofMalfy · 10/10/2020 11:44

My family is Italian so that’s why we went for it. Although my ds has a name that is the same in every European language (afaik) but Italian!

Igotthemheavyboobs · 10/10/2020 11:45

Just makes me think of Eva Longoria from Desperate Housewives

Ellmau · 10/10/2020 11:46

It's lovely.

SuzieQQQ · 10/10/2020 11:47

Snobby and ginger headed. Had one in primary school. She was awful hence my feelings about it.

CallmeFP · 10/10/2020 11:54

Feminine and classical in a Latin way.

MsEllany · 10/10/2020 11:56

Why?? Confused this is a girl so why would you assume a nickname for a boys name would be used?

As an aside I really like the name Gabe but it’s a bit too biblical for me! Grin

Friendsoftheearth · 10/10/2020 11:56

Tacky. Annoying. Dynasty.

ImaSababa · 10/10/2020 11:57

Gabriella is a gorgeous glamorous name.

The inevitable Gabby is one of the ugliest sounds in the language.

Friendsoftheearth · 10/10/2020 11:57

And mean, every Gabriella I know is very mean!

Friendsoftheearth · 10/10/2020 11:58

Sorry to any Gabriellas that are lovely, I am yet to meet one. Very snooty and tend to be spiteful is my experience (I know four of them)

bananamonkey · 10/10/2020 12:02

Prefer Gabrielle but it’s a nice name, I know 2 x lovely Gabi’s.

NameChange84 · 10/10/2020 12:07

I know quite a few Gabriellas from teaching or my personal life and can honestly say I’ve never experienced any of them being snooty or spiteful at all. All lovely girls, pleasure to know or teach, very polite and respectful and have an elegance about them. Obviously I don’t know every Gabriella on Earth but I wouldn’t associate the name with a problematic personality.
