The name ‘Gabriella‘..immediate thoughts?

Doesn’t have to be one of the adjectives above..obviously

I absolutely love it. It was one of the names I'd have liked for my daughter. We chose something else in the end but it's such a beautiful name.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/10/2020 02:19

I like it. I like both Gabi and Ella. It’s a good name.

SourcePlease · 10/10/2020 02:33

I like it in Spanish but not in English

nandaandm · 10/10/2020 02:39

My DD is Gabriella. She's gets Gabs, Gabi and Gigi as her middle name is Grace. She's beautiful, strong and elegant.... but OMG she can't half talk! So she sometimes gets Gabi blister 😂

BritWifeinUSA · 10/10/2020 02:53

What are we naming? A cat? A dog? A child? A character in your next novel?

clumsyv · 10/10/2020 03:20

I love that name, very elegant.

HoppingPavlova · 10/10/2020 03:22

It’s a lovely name but I personally wouldn’t, only as I have heard it bastardised with all the ones I have known (3). One of them was spelt with a j though, although pronounced the same, some European form of it I recall.

Two were shortened to Gabbi and one Gabs.
One somehow morphed into Gabsarella when the whole name was used, and that was in a professional environment. Must admit it’s all put me off the name a bit. I think if you could guarantee Elle or Ella would be used as the nickname or the name wouldn’t be altered i would go it.

ToastyCrumpet · 10/10/2020 05:23

I lived in Germany for six months in the 1980s and at one point I counted up that I knew 14 Gabriellas. It was equal to Jane or Diane. Nice name but I can’t think of it as unusual.

Monty27 · 10/10/2020 05:55

Celestial with a twist of French
I love it 😊

Love it

Serin · 10/10/2020 09:23

Every Gabriella I have met (3) has been a (glamourous) hairdresser.

fatherliamdeliverance · 10/10/2020 10:25

Don't love it tbh, it sounds a bit hard. Maybe the plosive g and b sounds... Gabrielle is a bit less fussy.

Angelina82 · 10/10/2020 10:27

I think it’s a really ugly name. Sorry.

SeptemberAlexandra · 10/10/2020 10:29

Beautiful name. So beautiful that I used the name for my daughter.

updownroundandround · 10/10/2020 10:31

I think it's a lovely name.

Surely the shortened version is as likely to be Ella as it is to be Gabby ?

Porridgeoat · 10/10/2020 10:33

Don’t like it. Gobby

Porridgeoat · 10/10/2020 10:34

Elle is nice though

mistermagpie · 10/10/2020 10:35

I don't like it. Mind you this is probably
Influenced by the fact the my neighbours daughter is called Gabriella and I have to listen to them shouting it all day long. Imagine it in a braid Glasgow accent and its suddenly not as pretty.

I think a lot of these names are a bit fluffy and silly to be honest, I can't imagine being called Gabriella or Isabella or something like that, they just don't seem like normal peoples names!

MsEllany · 10/10/2020 10:37

I think Gabriella is beautiful but I wouldn’t name a child who will grow up without an Italian accent.

I prefer Francesca and like the nicknames Franny and or Frankie.

toffeekiwi · 10/10/2020 10:40

It's not a name I would choose but the one I know is lovely.

thepeopleversuswork · 10/10/2020 10:40

I can't stand the word "classy" it's the exact opposite of it

Totally agree. Anyone who seeks to name a child deliberately to be classy, is, by definition, naff as fuck...

Anyway digress. I think this is a pretty name and I don't mind Gabby (or Gabi).

More to the point, if you like it, screw what random people on the internet think.

HandfulofDust · 10/10/2020 10:45

Love it. I think it's a classic name and Gabby is a nice nickname.

BlackeyedSusan · 10/10/2020 10:47

love it. you/she could always go with ella/ellie as a shortening. good to have options.

ImAwfulWithUsernames · 10/10/2020 10:47

Love it
