The name ‘Gabriella‘..immediate thoughts?

Doesn’t have to be one of the adjectives above..obviously

It's nice but I hate Gabby....and any Gabriella will be called "Gabby"

Gabby reminds me of scabby or of the Northern slang for chatting and gossiping ...to gab. As in "We were gabbing away"

DespairingHomeowner · 09/10/2020 23:51

I’m biased as have known 2 awful colleagues with that name....

Decent name in itself, but hard to stop others shortening it

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 09/10/2020 23:52

Beautiful. As is Gabriel for a man / boy.

CSIblonde · 09/10/2020 23:53

I like it,it's pretty & elegant. And I love names you can shorten .

villainousbroodmare · 09/10/2020 23:54

Gabriella is really lovely, but Gabby is not and Gabs is appalling.

AuditAngel · 09/10/2020 23:59

Worra my daughter is Gabriela (Spanish spelling, DH is Spanish) and we shorten to Ela, because 8also thought of Gobby Gabby!

AuditAngel · 10/10/2020 00:01

Incidentally she won’t answer to Gabby

CatAndHisKit · 10/10/2020 00:01

abrasive

Afteropinions77 · 10/10/2020 00:11

Abrasive 🙈

OP posts:
GallopingGreen · 10/10/2020 00:12

Beautiful. Elegant and feminine

CatAndHisKit · 10/10/2020 00:20

sorry, After, I really mean just to the ear - it's still a good name, not a silly one, strong for sure. Just a bit too strong for me, but many like it!

DBML · 10/10/2020 00:26

I think Gabriella is ok, but Gabby is ugly.
Each to their own though.

Rockmehardplace · 10/10/2020 00:43

Gorgeous

Classy, pretty, fresh, different. Nice!
Janegrey333 · 10/10/2020 00:54

And Gabby is fine. Friendly, sporty!

yelyah22 · 10/10/2020 01:06

All Gabbys I've ever known have been... I don't know what the right word is. If they'd been older they'd have been described as 'brassy'? So it puts me off! But the name Gabriella in itself is pretty.

Audreyseyebrows · 10/10/2020 01:09

Gabriella is classy and elegant.

Gabby as a nickname is awful. It’s the opposite.

FourPlasticRings · 10/10/2020 01:09

I like the options to shorten. Abi, Ella, Brie, Briella...

BoomBoomsCousin · 10/10/2020 01:16

Disney. Frilly. But also, just a name.

Lisa78Lemon · 10/10/2020 01:19

Elegant, sophisticated, Italian.
Like the nickname Gabby

Twigletfairy · 10/10/2020 01:19

I think its a pretty name. Not one I would choose myself as I don't like all the shorter nicknames. although saying that, Ella is quite pretty

1forAll74 · 10/10/2020 01:24

I like the name Gabriella.. There are quite a lot of arty women with this name, as in singers, musicians and writers, etc, and they are all good looking women. !! Also a British royal with this name.

ViciousJackdaw · 10/10/2020 01:33

I can't stand the word "classy" it's the exact opposite of it

Me neither. Makes me think of try-hard people who make every choice in life based on the belief that it gives the impression that they are oh so sophisticated. People who graze on their salads and sip their elderflower water (because they never just eat or drink, do they?).

Anyway, Gabriella. OK name, perhaps a little frilly, as others have said. Gabriela looks more streamlined in print and Gabrielle makes me think of the singer (but she does have a nice voice). Definitely not awful though, unless shortened to 'Brie', in which case, you may as well call the poor girl 'Stinking Cheese'.

Strokethefurrywall · 10/10/2020 01:48

My DNiece is Gabriella and she's utterly gorgeous (nearly 14), and exudes elegance and grace. Certainly more elegance and grace than I ever did at the same age.

My Gabriella has never been known as Gabbi, only ever as GiGi - by the time she started school she was "Gabriella otherwise known as Gigi". She has never answered to Gabby.
