Thanks AcrossthePond55 - great helpful explanation of things I only dimly grasp and never quite get my head round.

California:

americanindependent.com/california-republicans-refuse-stop-stealing-ballots/

'California's Secretary of State has ordered Republicans to stop putting up fake ballot drop boxes around the state, but they don't want to listen.'

Barratt's refusal to answer so many questions is worrying.
I suspect that if she revealed her true stance it might sway Senate members' voting.
It doesn't matter if she is secretly more Liberal than widely accepted, no Democrat will vote in support of her.
So just how ultra Conservative is she, that it might be too much for certain Republicans?!

lionheart · 15/10/2020 21:30

I'm not sure how well the condescension concealed the ineptitude, or the fear.

lionheart · 15/10/2020 21:31

Hope, always hope.

thebulwark.com/a-crusade-for-something-noble/

'I know it’s difficult for so many of us to feel hope in this moment, which seems so incomprehensibly dark. We are a nation deeply wounded from a liberated virus. We’re struggling with systemic racism. And we’ve endured lashing mental abuse, time and again, from the president of the United States. But it is not a darker moment than what Ike saw when he looked across the English Channel on June 6, 1944 at the continent of Europe, dominated by the Nazis.

So I see a light ahead. Just days away, a unified and electrified coalition of Americans, coming together like our country did in World War II, standing united to send a message that will be heard around the world to all those who look with expectant hope to the America that led the crusade more than half a century ago: That America has not succumbed to a demagogue and would-be autocrat. That we have overcome. And that Donald J. Trump is not who we are.

In just a short time, America will go from its darkest hour to its finest hour.'

By Trump's standards it seems to me that he would consider Jesus to be a "loser". So I think he does actually believe he's more "famous" than JC.

Trump says only Jesus Christ more famous than him
thehill.com/homenews/campaign/521266-trump-says-only-jesus-christ-more-famous-than-him

President Trump said Thursday at a campaign rally in Greenville, N.C., that only Jesus Christ is more famous than he is.

"Someone said to me the other day, 'you're the most famous person in the world by far.' I said, 'no, I'm not'... they said, 'who's more famous?' I said, 'Jesus Christ'," Trump recounted, prompting cheers from his crowd of supporters.

The president added, "I'm not taking any chances ... I'm not having any arguments - Jesus Christ!"

"And let me look up and I'll say it's not even close," Trump said, looking to the sky.

Before he lauded Jesus, Trump extended condolences to Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's campaign team regarding the news of two aides testing positive for COVID-19.

"Masks, no masks, everything, you can do all you want, but you know, you still need help from the boss," Trump said, pointing to the sky.

Trump's John Lennon-esque comments come one week after his son Eric Trump claimed the president "literally saved Christianity."

"The Democratic Party, the far left, has become the party of the 'atheists,' and they want to attack Christianity, they want to close churches, they're totally fine keeping liquor stores open," the younger Trump said on a North Dakota radio show, referring to some governors' coronavirus restrictions.

Biden, a practicing Catholic, has sought to make inroads among evangelical Christian voters, who overwhelmingly backed Trump in 2016. More than 1,600 faith leaders endorsed Biden last week, reportedly the largest group in modern history to back a Democratic presidential candidate.

"you told me, but what you tell me doesn't necessarily make it fact".
Astonishingly enough, these wise words came from Trump.
(When refusing to denounce Qanon)

Just watched the Biden Town Hall. He came across as compassionate and with coherent ideas and plans to reunify the Country and move us forward. He's not going to change any Trumper's minds, but if someone came in undecided but with an open mind and a half measure of humanity, he's got their vote now.

lionheart · 16/10/2020 06:41

Thank goodness.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 07:23

I didn't watch any of it but hope this was the case....

Angry Staffer
@AngrierWHStaff
I’m watching Biden’s town hall now.

Now I see why the GOP is already accusing Biden of having the questions in advance — he’s absolutely killing it, and the GOP is terrified.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 16/10/2020 07:53

Summaries of Trump's Town Hall are less than complimentary...

Sounds like NBC's Savannah Guthrie (who is also a lawyer) did a good job grilling him.

A few snippets from the Washington Post:

But despite fears that the event would amount to a free promotion for Trump’s campaign, it ended up being one of the toughest grillings he has faced as president, with questions about white supremacy, covid-19 deaths and his taxes.

While the event was nominally a town hall, featuring questions from Florida voters, it included a lot of direct pressing by the moderator, “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, who repeatedly challenged the president’s evasions.

At one point, after pushing Trump on his retweet of a QAnon-linked conspiracy theory, Guthrie said, “I don’t get that. You’re the president. You’re not like someone’s crazy uncle who can just retweet whatever.

”
When Trump said he wasn’t familiar with QAnon, Guthrie said “you do know,” to which he replied: “No, I don’t know. You tell me all about it. Let’s waste the whole show. Let’s go. Keep asking me these questions.”
After questioning him about his frequent claims of election fraud, Guthrie told him, “There is no evidence of widespread fraud, and you are sowing doubt in our democracy."

When Trump said he couldn’t release his taxes because he’s “under audit,” Guthrie repeatedly countered by saying, “You aren’t.”

When Trump claimed that a study showed 85 percent of people who wear masks still get the coronavirus, Guthrie noted he falsely characterized the study.

When Trump defended his pandemic response by citing another study that showed 2 million people could have died of the coronavirus, Guthrie rightly noted that model predicted that only if the government did precisely zero mitigation.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 08:47

Well done Guthrie for holding him to his account, he'll be raging of course.

I couldn't watch much of it after seeing a cult member tell him he has a really lovely smile and is very handsome when he smiles. 🤮🤮🤮

TheNorthWestPawsage · 16/10/2020 08:51

Yes Roussette that would be vomit inducing if said to any candidate as far as I'm concerned!

Roussette · 16/10/2020 08:52

And she was a Betsy de Vos lookalike which made it double vomit inducing!

On the two town halls...

www.vox.com/2020/10/15/21518760/trump-biden-town-hall-top-highlights

At the very moment Trump embraced QAnon, Biden embraced science.

AcrossthePond55 · 16/10/2020 13:56

I didn't have any interest in watching Trump. From some of the reports and soundbites I can't decide if I made the right decision or if I missed the best comedy show of the year.

Or maybe the worst tragedy show. I can't decide.

BruceAndNosh · 16/10/2020 14:29

I'm positive that Savannah Guthrie had prepared the line I don’t get that. You’re the president. You’re not like someone’s crazy uncle who can just retweet whatever and was just waiting for the right moment to say it.
I bet her first draft was more cutting and compared him to a doddering Grandpa but then realised that the Crazy Uncle was a much better term

Fox News are falling over themselves defending Trump's wonderful performance Grin

Roussette · 16/10/2020 15:02

Bruce
I would like to think she has read my tweets when I refer to a drunken uncle at a wedding... and made it her own. Doubtful I know!

Across you didn't miss much but do try and catch the weird fan, with the shiny wig, red dame Edna glasses, drooling over Trump's smile.

Actually here's a link. (Disclaimer, stiff drink needed to watch it hehe)
