To be furious and ask for my money back

My dishwasher broke a few days ago, with the soap compartment not opening during the wash and I called the best rated repair person in the area, as listed on a well known trades rating/checking website.

Since then its been 4 visits, a total of £211 parts and labour, replacing the entire soap/rinse aid dispenser and much of the internal wiring. Yet still the soap dispenser door does not open during the wash, seemingly no matter what their repair person tries/replaces so far.

The repair person seems very laid back about it all, not understanding how inconvenient and time consuming this repeated visits are. He keeps doing a possible fix, putting the machine on and leaving. Then I have to call him once more and say yet again whatever you didn't hasn't worked, so come back and try again. No apology from him and no acknowledgement that this is poor service.

At this point I'm furious, out of pocket and AIBU to demand my money back for incompetent work, if the repair person cannot fix it tomorrow on their 5th visit?

maybe its unfixable....not his fault

is he a plumber or electrician?

Justkeeprollingalong · 08/10/2020 22:43

The soap compartment stopped opening on my dishwasher years ago. All that happens when it opens is that the tablet drops out into the bottom of the dishwasher. I just throw the tablet in and shut the door. Works perfectly.

RonaRossi · 08/10/2020 22:46

Same as the pp. Soap compartment hasn’t worked for years, tablet gets thrown in on the floor instead and it makes no difference at all.

Justkeeprollingalong · 08/10/2020 22:46

Sorry that doesn't help with your dilemma! The thing is he's kept trying to fix it so he's done the work and supplied the parts.

Pipandmum · 08/10/2020 22:47

You shouldn't have paid him until you one ot worked - he should have put it on a short cycle and waited. If he couldn't fix it just pay him the fallout charge.
But I would just put the tablet in the machine and not in the compartment as suggested - for the money you have spent you could have bought a new machine.

Ffsnosexallowed · 08/10/2020 22:48

As above - when we had a dishwasher we just threw the tablet in the bottom- worked fine.

Smallsteps88 · 08/10/2020 22:49

Sounds very much like a washing machine repair man I had out in the past. You’re not in NI are you OP?

Anyway, I just chuck the tablet into the dishwasher like PPs and it works fine.

MasksGlovesSoapScrubs · 08/10/2020 23:00

You can't really ask for your money back if it's just unfixable as he has tried to fix it every time. Just get a new one if you're willing to spend £200+ on repairs.

mum11970 · 08/10/2020 23:04

We were the same as PPs we just threw the tablet in once the flap decided not to open. Worked fine for years until it gave up completely.

SonjaMorgan · 08/10/2020 23:09

I thought we were the only ones who throw the tablet on the floor!

GoogleWhacked · 08/10/2020 23:13

My dispenser works fine but I'm lazy so I just throw the tablet onto the bottom of the machine and off it goes.

MrsWednesdayteatime · 08/10/2020 23:14

My tablet dispenser works fine, I just can't be bothered with it, way too fiddly, as pp I just throw the tablet in. It's only an issue if you wanted to use a pre-rinse program.

mydogmike · 08/10/2020 23:14

My soap compartment works and I still throw it at the bottom 🤓

Justkeeprollingalong · 08/10/2020 23:19

I feel like a trendsetter now ☺️

BillysMyBunny · 08/10/2020 23:24

As everyone else has written here, I always just throw the tablets onto the dishwasher floor regardless of whether the compartments work or not. Putting them in the dispenser just seems faffy and pointless.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/10/2020 23:25

Never once used the compartment- always thrown it in the floor

jackstini · 08/10/2020 23:26

Don't use compartment either, just stick capsule in the cutlery holder!

Maybe draw a line under this and see how it goes chucking it in?

Notfeelinggreattoday · 09/10/2020 00:00

When my dishwasher broke to be fair repair men said he thought it was x but would only know if he replaced it then it could be y
So recommended it maybe cheaper to buy a new machine
( my current one was a cheap one )
£200 odd could buy a new machine or go towards a new one

violetbunny · 09/10/2020 00:30

We were told by our dishwasher repair guy to always out the tablet in the cutlery basket anyway.

TheHighestSardine · 09/10/2020 00:35

We put £10 then another £10 into buying and replacing the two things that could be busted and stopping the dispenser from opening, but it still doesn't. So that would have been two visits plus if it was a repairman instead of me and a screwdriver.

I put the pod in the basket now.

PatriciaHolm · 09/10/2020 00:35

DP had that and it was because the washer wasn't completely flat on the floor...

PigletJohn · 09/10/2020 06:19

A website where the trader pays to be listed is not a recommendation site, it is an advertising site.

If the trader can have unfavourable reviews removed, or if his family and friends can publish glowing reports, it is less than worthless.

SpongebobNoPants · 09/10/2020 06:24

I’ve never ever used the soap compartment on a dishwasher. I just chuck a tablet into the cutlery holder inside and turn it on.
Seems like you’ve gone to a massive expense for nothing if the dishwasher is otherwise working soundly

You could have bought a new one with a guarantee for that. Stop spending money on it now.
