To find Prince William a bit smug

I'm sure he means well, it's just that he seems to be lecturing everyone on the environment while he travels by helicopter a lot and has a mansion. Also I just find them quite twee and irritating, particularly at the moment when so many people are struggling. AIBU?

@bluebell34567

i cant know about their intelligence levels -not sure of Harry- but especially Kate has a very strong personality. she endured a lot and never lost focus. she is very dignified.
I would love to know what she has "endured"
Roussette · 16/10/2020 14:50

My point exactly Samcro !

We also don't know what her personality is like, if it's strong, or whether she's lost focus at all. There might be lots of focus lost and she decided to go low profile because of that, because we don't exactly see her often, so wouldn't know!

I agree she is dignified and suits the job, from what we see of her but the RF are excellent at portraying the right public image.
This is not a criticism of her individually, it applies to all of them.

AuntMasha · 16/10/2020 14:59

“ Yes you do come across as aggressive.
Maybe look at your own faults before criticising others so much.”

Thank you for taking my apology so graciously.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 15:03

i agree. That was a bit harsh.

I know what it's like on MN to make a heartfelt apology and have it kicked back in my face.

Andante57 · 16/10/2020 15:24

So one can dole out some unpleasant personal attacks and then an apology makes it all ok?

Roussette · 16/10/2020 15:34

Not sure if you're talking to me

I didn't see posters on here personally attacked.

Andante57 · 16/10/2020 15:37

‘I didn't see posters on here personally attacked‘
I presume Aunt Masha was apologising for her comments on Prince William & co

TheNavigator · 16/10/2020 15:41

@Andante57 my understanding is that AuntMasha was graciously apologising for the tone of her posts. Your response to her apology seemed unnecessarily churlish.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 15:44

Fair enough. You said 'unpleasant personal attacks', I thought you meant you.
I don't suppose PW is bothered!

As far as him... I don't have anything against him, there could be worse in the position he's in. I don't particularly warm to him, I must admit, but that doesn't mean I don't think he's doing a decent job., I think he is. I do think there will be a lot of changes when the Queen isn't around any more.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 15:46

To add to that... I pressed post too soon.

I want there to be a lot of changes when the Queen dies. Very streamlined, PC needs to knock all this in to shape.

notafanoftheman · 16/10/2020 16:09

Classy.

Samcro · 16/10/2020 16:12

i did like seeing him supporting his gran. shame they couldn't bring themselves to wear masks.
even if they are covid free, that would have set a good example.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 16:13

Totally agree. It's what message it gives out to the wider public that matters.

Janegrey333 · 16/10/2020 17:17

It’s ridiculous that they chose not to wear masks. Are they following Trump’s example?

Andante57 · 16/10/2020 18:03

I don't suppose PW is bothered!

I don’t think anyone likes reading personal attacks on them or their families.
Is it fair game to attack anyone in the public eye? Maybe it is, I don’t know.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 19:20

No. Not fair at times. Which is why I haven't. And don't.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 19:21

Just have to add.... apart from Trump but that is fair. He affects us all.

Samcro · 16/10/2020 19:30

Trump and other political people have power, the rf don't.

bluebell34567 · 16/10/2020 22:43

no need to roll eyes!
Kate endured years and years of media abuse and kept her dignified silence instead of whining to the press (any kind) at every opportunity.

Roussette · 16/10/2020 22:57

I'm not 'rolling eyes'.
She hasn't 'endured' anything to speak of though.

bluebell34567 · 16/10/2020 23:02

lets say 'put up' then. i thought i was clear.

NewlyGranny · 16/10/2020 23:04

It would be miraculous if he weren't, really, given the life he's had.

Roussette · 17/10/2020 08:09

I have no idea. Nothing against her. Think she's perfect for the job. But as I said in an earlier post, we see very little of her, what goes on behind closed doors, i do not know as far as enduring or putting up with anything. We only see what they want us to see, so we know very little.
She is poised and the perfect partner to PW as a king in waiting, anything else is speculation really.

ajandjjmum · 17/10/2020 08:16

Up to a point it is speculation, but the sniping and nastiness in the press over the years since they were at uni is there for all to see. Slurs about her work-shy attitude, the fact that her grandparents were miners etc. I think that it's due to her upbringing that she coped with it all - the Middletons seem a very closeknit unit, but it can't have been easy.

Personally I was unsure when they married, but feel that since then she has grown in to her role in a really positive way.

As you say, none of us knows what goes on behind the closed doors of any relationship, but I feel that she and William seem genuinely happy, despite the shit that people try to throw at them.

bluebell34567 · 17/10/2020 11:57

agree ajandjjmum. you put it better than me.
