To find Prince William a bit smug

I'm sure he means well, it's just that he seems to be lecturing everyone on the environment while he travels by helicopter a lot and has a mansion. Also I just find them quite twee and irritating, particularly at the moment when so many people are struggling. AIBU?

Let us not forget he “worked” for less than 2 years after completing a specially accelerated training course at vast expense to the public purse. I wonder how many actual life saving missions he did. You could probably count them on the fingers of one hand.

I bet he saved more lives than you or I have! Your 'fingers of one hand' comment is false, and tbh, pretty pathetic.

He also worked in airsea rescue remember, before his work as an air ambulance pilot.

Whilst I am sure he undertook some specialist training for flying an air ambulance, I would imagine that he already had many of the skills. The cost of anyone undertaking this training would need to be covered by 'the public purse'.

He also donated his salary to charity - and by all accounts, was very sad to leave this work when he had to step up to cover more royal duties to support his family.

Some people find fault when the Royals don't work, and then again when they do.

Big fat meh. Anyone else would not have a) had their very own specially tailored course and b) would have stuck with it for more than 18 months before going off to live in one of their many palaces. He was very sad to leave it? Cry me a fucking river. Do us all a favour, abdicate and get a real job.

Your opinion, not mine. But that's life. I just don't find it necessary to be rude and unpleasant about someone I've never met, who hasn't drowned babies or shot people!

Just so that you're aware of the facts - he served as an airsea rescue pilot for five years, followed by two years as an air ambulance pilot. Seven years of helping people. Not a real job?

Fortunately I can hold a different opinion to someone, and express it in a civil fashion.

Notafanof - wow, so if Prince William provokes that sort of response from you, what would you say about really evil people - members of SS, or Ceausescu or Mugabe or whoever?

hey I've barely scratched the surface of my inner rudeness there. "two years" of air ambulancing was actually 14 months BTW.

TheKeatingFive · 14/10/2020 10:28

I bet he saved more lives than you or I have!

And how many died, because an extraordinary amount of public resource was given to this family, rather than the sick, disabled, poorest in our society who were totally fucked by austerity policies?

Different argument completely.

Interesting...... So may I have your opinion if Mielke, head of the Stasi secret police in the former East Germany and dictator Pinochet please?
IncandescentSilver · 14/10/2020 10:59

I think he'd be quite annoying and self centred in real life, like most of the royal family. They produce some real peaches, don't they?

He was so good looking when younger, but has aged terribly!

MiddleClassMother · 14/10/2020 11:05

He is from the royal family, hardly his fault.

notafanoftheman · 14/10/2020 11:21

I don’t see how they are relevant seeing as my taxes aren’t paying for them to live a pointless life in the lap of luxury while preaching to the rest of us.

HibiscusNell · 14/10/2020 11:27

The difference those people are truly evil and they either know/knew it or they are so deluded that there is literally nothing you can do about them. The issue with people like Prince Williams is that they have had the upbringing and education that you would think would give them some insight into why swanning around spending zillions, being smug and lecturing people about things he knows shite all about is NOT OK.

If he had any sense he would step down from the royal family and quietly get on with his life. The Royal family is ridiculously out of place in any modern society.

eddiemairswife · 14/10/2020 11:36

He went to Eton. I thought Eton's job was to teach its pupils that they are superior and deserve more than us 'little' people.

ajandjjmum · 14/10/2020 12:00

Prince Williams is that they have had the upbringing and education that you would think would give them some insight into why swanning around spending zillions, being smug and lecturing people about things he knows shite all about is NOT OK.

I understand that many people (still a minority) don't want a Royal Family, and obviously, that's an opinion that people are totally entitled to.

But when has PW been swanning around spending zillions and lecturing people about things he knows nothing about?

He has a great lifestyle - lucky him - although he has to put up with a load of shit to go alongside it. But he doesn't have zillions to spend. And I've never heard him lecture - in the tone the word implies. He makes speeches - part of his job - and has taken part in some very interesting conversations.

It would be a real shame if people can't respect the work he has done with men's mental health charities and the environment, purely because of who he is. The last thing he was doing in the David Attenborough documentary was lecturing - he was listening, learning and encouraging.

MangoFeverDream · 14/10/2020 13:51

The cost of anyone undertaking this training would need to be covered by 'the public purse'

The cost of literally anyone else qualified for training would have been better value than someone who stuck with it less than two years ... part-time from that as I understand.

If he dislikes his current situation that much he can always take himself and his kids out of the line. After Harry (who probably won’t be eligible anymore), you have the York girls, who seem genuinely nice, or Edward’s kids.

But he chooses not to — probably because he considers working like a normal person beneath him

ajandjjmum · 14/10/2020 14:39

Has he ever said that he dislikes his current situation?

At least he repaid something over the 7 years he worked piloting helicopters to help others.

Just can't understand the dislike and nastiness towards someone who's never done anything to harm anyone else (as far as I know).

Andante57 · 14/10/2020 14:47

Just can't understand the dislike and nastiness towards someone who's never done anything to harm anyone else (as far as I know)

I agree. There seem to be many other people in this country more deserving of such hatred.

notafanoftheman · 14/10/2020 15:53

The punches why does he even have a platform? He’s wholly unqualified as far as I can tail. Finest education money can buy, average qualifications, no particular expertise. Why are we listening to him?

notafanoftheman · 14/10/2020 15:55

Fucking autocorrect...

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 14/10/2020 19:24

@notafanoftheman... because he is “our betters”.

stairway · 15/10/2020 09:51

He did do an interview saying neither him nor Harry wanted to be King. I thought well I that is the case let someone else have the privilege.

stairway · 15/10/2020 09:57

Wills isn’t to be fair quite as woe is me as his brother though so that is a plus I suppose.

I think he told his mother before she died that he didn't want to be king, so he'd have been 14-ish?

From memory, Harry was reported to have said 'if you don't want to do it, I will'. Grin

I didn't think he has ever said it in an interview.
