I HATE my cylinder vacuum cleaner. It does a good job but I hate cylinderd for several reasons. Bought in a moment of madness 15 years ago.

Can't afford to replace just for the sake of it.

What are you putting up with until it breaks down?

A dyson, we bought one once and it was rubbish and said never again, we got given one again a couple of years ago and they are still shit. It's gathering dust and we use a manual carpet sweeper just like grandma had, it's more efficient and effective.

Something about vacuum cleaners!

Not now but I have decided I hate dishwashers, they are great in theory but don't work for me (I don't mean a specific one just in general)

We only got a new kettle a few months ago but I want a silent, fast one that still has the temp control.

I am not a fan of our barrel dyson but then DH uses it not me so I am not too bothered

HeronLanyon · 06/10/2020 05:27

My kettle. Unbeknownst to me, when bought, it has an awful and wholly unnecessary and ugly blue light element around the bottom which comes on when it’s turned on. Really bright and ugly. It’s also really noisy. I’ve given it a year or so.
So hoping it breaks soon. Or hoping the light breaks (I’ve tried to detach the ring but can’t without potential dangerous damage).

My iron which is black. Trouble is I can’t see into the water section to see if or how much water is in there. I have to put bright lamp on to check. Hate it. So stupid.

Catsup · 06/10/2020 05:27

A mirrored door microwave 🙄 I've probably spent more time polishing the bloody thing in the last 6yr than the rest of my house combined. I just know it'll outlive the rest of my kitchen appliances out of spite.

polkadotpixie · 06/10/2020 05:30

I hate my condenser washer-dryer. I only have it because it came with the house (new build) and there's no room for a separate dryer but it's absolutely shit, just steams the clothes to death rather than actually drying them

We have that kettle but it's not noisy.

DH took it upon himself to select and buy our replacement cheap and nasty washing machine ( evidently; I was busy at work, so he organised the removal of my broken but beloved Samsung 39 minute 60 degree wash and replaced it with mechanical ineptitude on a magnificent level, according to DH this process saved me time Hmm ).

Tiny porthole, long cycles unconvinced by the wash quality, and will the bloody thing break down? No, it won’t. 6 tedious years of long cycles, squishing in dog bedding, it plods onwards, the display telling lies about the time remaining and the ominous squeak never ever degenerates into a terminal illness.....

The washing machine saga is regularly brought up and DH has resolved he will never ever buy a household item over $100 on his own again.

A more magnanimous person might say that if this is the biggest crime he has committed in nearly twenty years, I should have more perspective, but then I’d have to be magnanimous and when it comes to dog bedding this is impossible.

Gosh what a rant ....

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/10/2020 05:47

My tumble dryer. After we had an extension we couldn’t vent it outside. So I have the darn vent pipe is inside. Yes, I could get a condensor dryer but they don’t last and what a waste of money. Gah!

BessieSurtees · 06/10/2020 05:50

Your vacuum cleaner is still going strong after 15 years? What make is that I’ve never had a one pick up for that long.

My kettle, it’s not fast, the lid sticks, the spout sometimes spills and the switch doesn’t always catch. Bought for fashion, it cost a fortune. I keep it because it matches the toaster, which is great.

TitsOutForHarambe · 06/10/2020 05:50

My Kmart steam mop. It meekly puffs out a pathetic little croak of steam. It's basically had it by now but I can't really afford a new steam mop so close to Christmas... So we push on.

I haven't said anything to DH yet because I'm afraid that he will get the wrong end of the stick and think it's a hint for my Christmas gift (absolute sweetheart of a man but not good at gifts).

GobletOfIre · 06/10/2020 05:54

My toaster. It always burns whenever I’m low on bread, despite me never altering the settings. It is spiteful.

HeronLanyon · 06/10/2020 05:54

samosamimosa I think if I were being really honest maybe it isn’t that loud. Just hate it so much. Bought as looked simple-ish design. Then the horror of the ring of bright blue ! Shock

HeronLanyon · 06/10/2020 05:58

toria658 snap ! My washing machine lies about time remaining (30 or so random minutes added to some cycles for no obvious reason). Interminable cycles - lost my old ability to do quickish hot wash. Never ever will I allow anyone else to ever choose a washing machine for me. Trouble is this one shows no sign of conking out.

Junjulaug · 06/10/2020 05:59

Our Everhot range cooker. I HATE it. We moved into our house a year ago, and it was there. The previous owners did literally everything else in the house on the cheap except this stupid £12k cooker. No other cooker in the kitchen, so only means to cook. Not powerful enough to heat the room, so we froze last winter and boiled in the summer as we couldn’t switch it off as no other cooking facility. Hob is only big enough for 2 saucepans at a time and needs at least 45 minutes to heat up to a cooking temperature, ditto the oven. Why does anyone have these?. The good news is that when I get a new kitchen next year I will sell it and as they retail well 2nd hand it will contribute a large amount towards the new kitchen.

PracticingPerson · 06/10/2020 06:01

I have a double oven but the small one is broken. We didn't get it fixed because 'it'll need replacing soon, it's not worth it'. More than two years ago!

Agree some machines are deliberately spiteful. If I got it fixed today, the main section would break tomorrow.

MadauntofA · 06/10/2020 06:13

My dyson too - heavy, falls over at every opportunity, and is an absolute arse when it comes to removing and attaching the hose sucker. Hate it, hate it, hate it, and it won't die!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/10/2020 06:22

@TitsOutForHarambe I made the most of mentioning the oven glove needed replacing to DH last week. Luckily he nearly burnt his hand yesterday and has agreed it can't wait to Christmas.
He actually told he mother I really wanted tea towels and an oven glove for my birthday one year.

My toilet. We had it replaced years ago because our other one broke-goodness knows how. This one has to be flushed about a 100 times to get rid of one piece of loo roll.

TweeBree · 06/10/2020 06:25

OP - Amazon does interest-free monthly payments on most Shark hoovers. Makes upgrading a lot easier!!

I too have the dreaded mirrored microwave. Our tenant bought it when the previous model died and I can't justify a new one when we use it so infrequently.

TitsOutForHarambe · 06/10/2020 06:43

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Oh my. That reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Homer and Marge are Christmas shopping and Marge sees a beautiful watch and tells Homer she loves it, and he says "Maybe someone will get it you for Christmas" and she giggles, and then Homer thinks to himself "haha, now she'll really be surprised when she opens that ironing board cover!".

lorn195 · 06/10/2020 06:49

@tootiredtothinkofanewname I was the same about our oven up to 3 weeks ago. We had a Belling cooker for 12 years, and my in laws had it 14 years before that.

A few weeks ago we had my son's mate around, and while cooking pizza the oven door wouldn't open. DH ended up taking the screws out, and we had to wait until it cooled down to open the door.

As there were no parts for it, it was the last straw. Now we are owners of a brand new cooker and an oven door that opens !

So I understand where you are coming from.

fishonabicycle · 06/10/2020 06:53

Shiny microwave and oven are a bit annoying. Most annoying is the dishwasher that sometimes doesn't clean properly.

BlodwynBludd · 06/10/2020 06:56

My rangemaster, the grill is rubbish and it's a pig to clean.
