I HATE my cylinder vacuum cleaner. It does a good job but I hate cylinderd for several reasons. Bought in a moment of madness 15 years ago.

Can't afford to replace just for the sake of it.

What are you putting up with until it breaks down?

My washer dryer. God it's shit.

I had a fantastic Washing machine and a separate condenser tumble dryer in our old flat but they wouldn't fit when we moved 😭

Hingeandbracket · 06/10/2020 13:57

A dyson, ..... It's gathering dust
I see what you did there.

longtompot · 06/10/2020 14:02

Dishwasher which dh chose and bought with no input from me. It's starting to show some signs of weakness, so hopefully the end is nigh. Huzzah!

LindaEllen · 06/10/2020 14:08

@BessieSurtees

Your vacuum cleaner is still going strong after 15 years? What make is that I’ve never had a one pick up for that long.

My kettle, it’s not fast, the lid sticks, the spout sometimes spills and the switch doesn’t always catch. Bought for fashion, it cost a fortune. I keep it because it matches the toaster, which is great.

My grandparents have had their Dyson for absolutely AGES and it works really well, though they have had it serviced a couple of times.

Ah, appliances. We just moved into a new place and it's missing a dryer and dishwasher, so I've been doing without those altogether, as it's a huge wait here now to get new ones because of capacity issues in the factories. I am not minding the dryer too much as I have a line and can also dry some indoors near the wood fire, but the I really really hate the dishes. Even with the kids taking care of the dinner ones, with six people it just seems endless.

The stovetop and oven here are also crap. The stovetop is electric with one burning non-working, and the separate wall oven is tiny and the heat is really hard to manage, it seems either too cool or too hot. We will probably replace the cooktop with gas as soon as the propane company decides to get around to coming, as we are worried there is something electrical wrong with it, but the oven will probably have to wait till it dies.

Goosefoot · 06/10/2020 14:12

I'll put in a plug though for my vacuum, which is a Filter Queen I found second hand, by far the most amazing appliance I've ever owned. The design is so straightforward and simple, and the sucking power is pretty amazing.

MurrayTheMonk · 06/10/2020 14:18

My washer dryer. The dryer part is rubbish but more annoyingly makes it stick out at the back too much for it to fit the cupboard doors on in front. All the other appliances are behind doors in the kitchen except this one and it looks rubbish. Plus it plays a really annoying and extremely long little time when it finishes a wash that makes me want to batter it.

Proudboomer · 06/10/2020 14:21

Fridge freezer. It is just not big enough and I made the mistake of buying black which shows every mark.

Might just pretend it is broken and buy a nice new 70cm width one n a more practical white.

SlopesOff · 06/10/2020 14:25

I am putting up with my horrible Bosch washing machine.

It doesn't rinse soap out, and leaves it frothed up in the dip of the door so that when you pull the washing out the suds go back on.

It barely rinses, even with the aqua plus and everything comes out stiff, put it in to wash without detergent and loads of suds come out. I do not use a lot of detergent.

It also doesn't spin unless you make an advance appointment with a begging letter attached. It has a quick wash function for putting light items in on a 30 min wash. It washes, It ends. Open the door to remove washing and it is soaking wet. Put it on spin and drain. It runs, it ends. Washing still soaking wet even after rearranging it as per the instructions. After 3 attempts I ended up putting it in with a full load just to get it to spin. And now it is full of soap.

A normal load is about 3 hours. An Eco machine - uses less water per wash but have to run a second wash to remove the soap. Longer washes use more electricity.

I hate it and no I didn't choose it, it was a replacement for a shitty Samsung that wouldn't stay in the kitchen, it insisted on bouncing around the room until it ran out of leads and pipework, there was no other option in the type I wanted.

MoonDelay · 06/10/2020 14:36

Upright Vax pet vacuum. I bought it to replace Hetty because I was sick of her drunken behaviour every time I dragged it around the house.

The Vax had great reviews and wasn't that expensive. Pfft. It gets clogged, it falls over, the so called extendable hose thing is shit and doesn't really extend it just wants to retract all the time, the rotating brush rotates as and when it feels like it and that also clogs up. It's supposed to be good for pet hair, I don't have a pet but a shedding daughter who practically leaves a full wig behind all over pretty much everything by just walking. I hate emptying it because it doesn't like to be emptied, it holds onto it all so you have to completely open up instead of dispatching the rubbish opening the door thing. The handle extends when it feels like it and all the attachments fall off when they're supposed to have a place on the main body of it.

It saves my back, sort of, but I hate everything else about it and have had to pull Hetty out of retirement when I don't have the patience. I hate it and I hate her. I don't want to buy another as I have yet another wet/dry one in the bloody shed which is noisy as hell, we don't have the room to store them and I'm not spending any more cash until they all break!

LadyR77 · 06/10/2020 14:46

My cooker. I hate it. It was included in the purchase of our house, and we just haven't got the spare cash to replace it at the moment. It's dire though - can't wait to chuck it and get a nice new one that actually works properly!

notso · 06/10/2020 14:46

I'll never tell anyone in RL but hate my integrated fridge freezer. Its only 18 months old so with us for a long time yet.
It's not big enough, is only low frost not frost free, it's easy to leave the door open, the door gets smeary and breaks my nails and it's noisy.
I apologise to my old freestanding one for relegating it to the garage when it's clearly superior. I keep my favourite foods in there as a peace offering.

Fartleking · 06/10/2020 14:50

DH just doesn't understand the hatred I have for our fridge. It is an undercounter 13 yr old Zanussi with a side-by-side freezer. It wouldn't fit under the counter when he remodeled the kitchen (2 months before we met) so they just took off the top. This exposed the top of the doors which has a deep groove to use as a handle. the whole thing sits slightly proud of the counter. Guess who has to clean grotty kitchen counter crud out of the groove every day? The seals on the top of the fridge are splitting now too so grot get stuck in there too but it doesn't come out.
We have been planning for a kitchen remodel forever and the first must have was an upright fridge/freezer. It was supposed to be done in the new year but our cat got hit by a car and we had no insurance... No new kitchen for the Fartle family in 2021Sad

Redcrayons · 06/10/2020 15:00

I really want a robot vacuum cleaner but my stupid Miele never gives up. It has fallen down the stairs more than once and never falters.

And I replaced my old washing machine last year and the settings on it are ridiculous. My quickest 40 degree wash is 1.49, the eco wash is 4 hours long. And don’t get me started with the needy beeping.

WilsonMilson · 06/10/2020 15:06

Not an appliance, but black granite worktops.
Moved into a new house last year and can’t justify putting in a new kitchen as it’s really not that old, but my God I hate these bloody worktops.
I feel like I spend half my life shining the fucking things, they show up every single mark and streak. If anyone is considering black granite, so yourself a favour and don’t!

TheSunIsStillShining · 06/10/2020 15:45

Argos sandwich maker. Broke the handle off when I put in a sandwich with an extra slice of cheese. Cuisinart is perfect!

I have something in/on me that coffee makers hate. The ones that you use on the hob: put the water in the bottom part, coffee in the middle and it will spit it out into the top part. These are said to be indestructible. My granddad's one is 50+ years old.
In my lifetime I 3 blowing up on me. First missed me and the top lid ended up wedged in the ceiling. 2nd missed me as I was not in the kitchen, but broke the air intake thing above the hob. 3rd started hissing and i pulled it off as the metal started deforming on the bottom. This didn't actually blow up, but was a close call. These are banned from our house. We now have a coffee shop grade coffee machine. The best ever :)

funinthesun19 · 06/10/2020 15:55

My fridge Angry It freezes stuff and it’s so annoying!! Tried adjusting the temperature but nothing works.

StartingGrid · 06/10/2020 16:02

My microwave and kettle, both are about a decade old, but work just fine... was planning to replace when we bought our home but can't quite decide what ones to get! Am holding out for someone to invent a wifi activated kettle that isn't £££ as by the time I've got up and boiled the kettle I've usually wandered off and forgot about it!

Champagneforeveryone · 06/10/2020 16:09

Our microwave is terribly old, in fact DS pointed out that if we ever need to read microwave instructions our rating is not on there as it's now so old.
The plastic has also gone a bit yellowy as well, but like PP's we use it about twice a month so I genuinely can't see the point of replacing it till it finally has the courtesy to give up the ghost when I may lobby to reclaim the worktop space and not replace it at all

longtompot · 06/10/2020 16:14

How could I forget my fridge and possibly freezer, though that's much better than the fridge as the drawers just slip off the runners. The fridge however, either freezes things too close to the back or soaks them in water. It causes jar labels to go mouldy, you can't clean the glass and plastic framed shelves properly, and I Just HATE IT!!!

Wexone · 06/10/2020 16:17

@StartingGrid buy a boiling tap - Constant hot water, instant access, never boil a kettle again

ifiwasascent · 06/10/2020 16:20

When we brought our first house a few months ago the sellers asked if we wanted to buy any of their appliances. We brought the dishwasher and washing machine. My only questions about the washing machine was does it do a fast load and how noisy is it. Was told it did a really quick load and was super quiet and it's in the kitchen so they wouldn't of had a loud one. Such liars. The quickest setting is like 1.5 hours and it is so so loud!

coronafiona · 06/10/2020 16:22

I hate my dyson ball. It is heavy and makes my back ache. But is relatively new so will have to wait a few years before breaking it into a million pieces deliberately looking for a new one

NancyBotwinBloom · 06/10/2020 16:37

My washing machine I think the timer has gone. It's a bit temperamental

imissthesouth · 06/10/2020 16:42

My oven, it's a smart oven and it's so complicated to use, my DH loves it but 9/10 it's me cooking, and struggling to use it, I do love that I can check it from my phone though so I don't have to go to the kitchen. It was ridiculously expensive too, I wouldn't recommend it to anyoneHmm
