Just found out that Billie Piper doesn't share social/political views as her ex H

I just assumed that she shared similar views as that silly man. I am not sure what attracted her to him; she seems pretty level headed and clued up.

I googled her as I saw a movie featuring her and I wanted to watch it but wouldn't have watched it if she was anything like that Lawrence/Laurence, or whatever he's called. I really dislike the man and his face, and unfairly, I had lumbered Bilie with him despite them being separated.

But I can't imagine marrying and having kids with someone who is on a completely different wavelength on such important issues.

I guess there's no aibu but had me reflect if he was always like this/only become like what he is after the divorce.

I would hate to parent with someone with views like him. I would be worried what he's teaching my children all types of intolerance. Plus he's just not very bright.

@ItIsEnola - your last two sentences are spot on. Solutions rather than accusations and name calling.

froggygoneacourting · 06/10/2020 20:36

I genuinely don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about. Can you please explain how me sharing my personal experiences of racial abuse is "identity politics" and "shutting down debate"?

I'm not the one trying to censor debate - Fox, and the people screaming about "wokesters" and "it's just a matter of opinion" and "if you don't like something just ignore it" and "black people should stay silent about their experiences of racial abuse because accusations don't help" are the ones censoring debate.

The posters who threw an almighty tantrum for several days, hurling abuse and outrage at me, simply because I used a term to refer to myself that they thought a biracial person shouldn't use, is outrageous. THAT is identity politics: dictating what terms people are and are not allowed to use.

Enola, why are you so overly invested in turning every thread into what YOU think, and in censoring and shutting down debate?

froggygoneacourting · 06/10/2020 20:37

you're going to feel frustrated that people don't agree with you

I literally just don't want Mumsnetters screaming "NI**ER" at me anymore.

Not a huge ask, is it?

FudgeBrownie2019 · 06/10/2020 21:01

@JellyFishSquish

So surprised at the hate here.

This is just another type of cancel culture. People have opinions. They may not match up with yours. Get over it.

Opinions are fine. Opinions that contain racism will be challenged because whilst I'll always uphold that racist shitwing's right to an opinion, I'll also stand a post and openly tell the world what a knobnose he is.

I'd say it's perfectly fine to hate people who are arseholes. Save your surprise for the people who don't spout their own hate speech.

ItIsEnola · 06/10/2020 21:26

What you describe isn't identity politics. As you said in your earlier post, you don't know what identity politics is. There are lots of articles and books about it. You may find them helpful. You may not. As I pointed out, I don't find it useful and lots of minority groups reject it as a premise for addressing structural oppression.

What do you want to achieve here @froggygoneacourting ? You seem to have moved on from the initial premise of the thread which is fine but by repeating the same points, it seems you're looking for something that you're not getting. Even though lots of posters have acknowledged there are racist posters on MN as there are everywhere on social media, that acknowledgement isn't enough for you. You're continually repeating assertions about a presumably deleted post on a thread that no-one here knows about. What next? What would you like us to do? What would make you feel seen and heard?

For those who believe that racism exists but that demanding white people apologise for the actions of their ancestors Or for being privileged and that identity politics and seeing people as their race first and a person after are not the best ways to solve society’s problems I suggest you look into the Equiano project, recently launched by Inaya Folarin.

NeverEndingCourgettes · 06/10/2020 23:23

Please return to discussing Fox.

Yes please. EVERYONE please return to discussing Fox.

froggygoneacourting · 06/10/2020 23:28

How do people think the defamation lawsuit(s?) will play out?

Fox has already deleted the tweets, will he settle out of court? He's legal actions against his ex-wife and against Equity suggest he's not afraid of going down that path; on the other hand, whoever's funding him might step in and try to curb some of his excesses.

Goosefoot · 07/10/2020 04:06

@froggygoneacourting

certain MNers who do like labels try to bully them into disclosure by labelling every disagreement racist. No good comes from this desire to label everyone with an even slightly different POV as a racist

There are also certain MNer who do not believe that racism exists; believe that calling someone racist is an outrageous horrific sin (and that being called racist is far worse than being the victim of racism); who bully anyone who tries to speak about racism; who are extremely invested in dismissing and debunking anyone who claims to have experienced racism; and who have a knee-jerk reaction where they feel obligated to defend anyone "accused" of racism regardless of the context.

Posters on this forum have insisted that Donald Trump is not racist. That the men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery were not racist. That the woman who threatened Christian Cooper wasn't racist. That the men who murdered George Floyd weren't racist, and anyway "George Floyd was a vile animal who deserved to die." That the neo-Nazi rally in London was fine and justified, but the BLM protesters were "violent thugs." On one of the Meghan threads I literally had someone make a post containing the word N**R in all caps (without asterixis, they wrote it out in full) in response to me mentioning that I am not white. People insisted that wasn't racist, too.

If I posted that I'd overheard some guys on the bus making nasty sexist comments, everyone would sympathise with me without questioning or nitpicking or accusing me of having an anti-man agenda. If I posted that I'd overheard some guys on the bus making nasty racist comments, I bet any money I'd get loads of defensive comments saying I was being over-sensitive, "what did they actually say verbatim so we can decide if it's racist or not", accused of being "woke", accused of being a snowflake, accused of being racist against white people, probably accused of making it up, told "who are you to decide what's racist!!!!!!", and no matter what was said in this hypothetical bus conversation there would definitely be people claiming "well I don't think that's racist."

Racism exists. Racism exists on this board. There is a line between debate and outright racial hatred and abuse.

I'm not sure where the impetus to do so comes from.
It comes from being racially abused.

Yes, people don't all think the same way you do on all of these topics. Glen Loury doesn't think Trump is a racist, and his reasons, if you ever listen to him, aren't particularly crazy. I don't agree with Loury about a few things, mainly economics, but he certainly isn't a racist.

There is more than one way to think about a lot of things.

As far as identity politics, it's one ideology out of many, but if you are going to assume everyone is a racist who questions it, you might want to learn something about it.

ConfusedcomMum · 07/10/2020 06:07

I was shocked when I saw a recent picture of him - goodness what on Earth has happened to him?! Is he on drugs? Confused

I'm another one who thinks he initially hid this part of him in his relationship with BP and possibly from his family as he has a few mix race black family members.

kirinm · 07/10/2020 07:31

@froggygoneacourting does he have money? I'd imagine with two lawsuits lined up he might try and settle. Defamation lawyers are not cheap.

ItIsEnola · 07/10/2020 11:25

Ffs you specifically asked me a question so I did you the courtesy of replying. Your personal insults are rude and disingenuous. I will not engage with you again. Hmm

I'll be ordering my shopping from Sainsbury's from now on Smile. Always loved their frozen section and quality of fruit.
