To want a warm pud every night?

It's cold, and miserable and I'm craving custard and a sweet-sweet stodgy dessert after every evening meal.

Please tell me I'm not the only one? Has anyone found a healthy-ish alternative that'd hit the spot, before I turn into a pudding.

I could eat a warm pudding every night in winter, but I don’t. I’d be the size of a house in no time.

It’s snuck up from ‘only on Sunday’ to twice a week lately, though. A midweek crumble & custard when it’s grey and raining outside lifts the spirits Grin.

I used to do stead apples in a dish with porridge oats and cinnamon sprinkled on. Bake in the oven, feels like a proper pudding x

I get bags of frozen fruit to keep in the freezer and they always end up in a crumble.
Raspberry*, black cherry, blueberry..............frozen strawberry not so good ..

Also, to give my crumble the illusion of being healthy I make it with half wholemeal flour, or porridge oats or add seeds or something.

Also, Clafoutis/batter pudding made with fruit.

*with lemon and cardomom in the buttery topping Grin

Rice pudding. I make enough for a couple of days so I can have emergency pud when I need something warm and comforting.

Flipflophurray · 04/10/2020 14:36

I’ve felt like this for about a week now - but I never feel that shop bought pudding hits the spot - and am not a natural baker.

RoSEbuds6 · 04/10/2020 14:36

I would second Boudicca and have stewed fruit, but I would have it with clotted cream, and I wouldn't have it every night.
I wouldn't fanny around with unsatisfying low fat alternatives 5 nights a week, I'd have the real thing and do it properly, but only have it once or twice.
(I'm not really a pudding craver though.)

My inner child is now wailing because she wants an apple crumble fresh out of the oven with vanilla ice cream or custard.

I have no apples. Or ice cream. Or custard. I'm very cross with you all.

I’m making a pear and Biscoff upside down pudding. It will most likely be a disaster but have to get rid of this fruit somehow. Fed up of making cider and Perry.

elenacampana · 04/10/2020 14:38

I’d love to have a nice warm afters every night but my waist line/arteries would never forgive me so I have one as an occasional treat :-)

Plum and Ginger crumble - plenty lemon juice in with the plums and lumps of glace ginger & brown sugar.

Topping - brown sugar and ginger powder and butter with flour & oats.

jessstan1 · 04/10/2020 14:42

It's not that cold yet and most people have central heating so it's warm indoors. I like pudding, hot or cold. I have some cheesecake last night, yum. Tonight will be a banana with cream.

Sponge pudding with custard is nice though if you have it too often it will show on the hips.

Can we take a moment for Betty’s Tearoom alternative to the Fat Rascal - for chocolate lovers. Yes it’s a box of six, but freezable so can be hidden in the back of the freezer...:

Sometimes I just have dessert on Fridays - my favourite is a big lump of apple & blueberry crumble with a blob of salted caramel on top - heat in the microwave then a dollop of whipped cream on top 😀

BoudiccasBoudoir · 04/10/2020 14:49

@diddl

I've never done tinned peaches in a crumble (but may be missing a trick) but do use them for cobbler

Mooballs · 04/10/2020 14:50

I don't know how anyone fits a dessert in unless you have a v small main course?

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 04/10/2020 14:51

I'll just lower the tone....

My kids love semolina pudding Blush. I make it with no sugar but then add nutella full of sugar in and serve with a few raspberries.

BoudiccasBoudoir · 04/10/2020 14:51

When I want a dessert but don't have anything in I find a hot chocolate with marshmallows, squirty cream and chocolate sauce takes the edge off it. Or banana and chocolate in the microwave, topped with squirty cream. Yum. Squirty cream is the answer basically.

I'm a big fun of French toast or pancakes in a fix.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 04/10/2020 14:52

Mooballs

Many of us here have good appetites.

Coldemort · 04/10/2020 14:53

Baked bananas. Love them, and perfectly healthy doesnt mention the accompanying icecream

CheeryAlmond · 04/10/2020 14:53

We've had a hot dessert with custard every night this week so far Grin

Jam Roly Poly
Syrup sponge
Melt in the middle chocolate pudding
'School' cake and pink custard
Apple crumble..

It's been a really crap week so I made a lot of effort to try and cheer people up, what better way than a hug in a bowl!

Oblomov20 · 04/10/2020 14:55

Sticky toffee pudding, yum.

Melroses · 04/10/2020 14:56

Banana custard.

lockdownalli · 04/10/2020 14:57

I totally agree. I make such a wonderful apple or plum crumble, and my body is screaming for it right now. However, I have been so good and lost quite a bit of weight this year and I don't want to fuck it all up.

I am having roast chicken with salad tonight, but it's so tempting to have a full roast instead. Grrrr!!!!!

Chasingsquirrels · 04/10/2020 14:57

@diddl

Well I wasn't!

Am thinking now though-tinned peaches any good for a crumble?

I'm not a custard person but happen to have some double cream...

I often do tinned apricots in a crumble, but have done peaches v occasionally.
Zaphodsotherhead · 04/10/2020 14:59

Sugar free jelly with a couple of spoons of hot custard, or baked meringue with some apple puree.

That's just for when I'm feeling worthy and am in training for something. Normally I'm shovelling down the crumble and double cream like a good 'un.
