That seems a lot

So I’m wondering if it’s true

In a very unscientific poll

YABU = not xmas shopping yet
YANBU = yes I’m shopping for Christmas

I’ve decided what most presents will be and have got most of those things. This year I’ve got a planner (starting in October!) which apparently will ‘breeze’ me through the Christmas run up.
I’d just like to be sipping mulled wine and listening to music in the last weeks of December this year, instead of running around the shops after work like usual.
I’ve seen M and S food orders are open already. I’m tempted to order all the sides this year. The lack of stress might be worth £25!
And thanks for the heads up about sellotape!

fairydustandpixies · 03/10/2020 06:59

Done, wrapped, cards written 😄

Camomila · 03/10/2020 07:00

I have, not on purpose but if I see a really good deal on something I buy it and hide it. eg, Bought DS1 a beautiful giant Atlas in Aldi.

RoxytheRexy · 03/10/2020 07:02

I’ve got a lot of stocking fillers and we bought the 2 year olds main present last night.

I need to wait for next payday for the rest. I like to be done by December. Going to check out the bargain threads now. I didn’t know about those!

Marmite27 · 03/10/2020 07:03

I’m finished for the kids, apart from a couple of things that aren’t released until the end of the month.

Scbchl · 03/10/2020 07:06

@Janevaljane It isnt August though, its October. My teens been telling me for months she wants a new phone and my 11 year old wants a new bike and my 8 year old said he wanted a gaming chair months ago and I said ask Santa. So those are the main things. Other than that they will maybe drop in the odd thing they would like and il get it but otherwise its just the usual sort of stuff that I dont need a list for.

Squeekybummum · 03/10/2020 07:07

I have nearly finished. Made a start when I was in isolation with 1 of my dc. Obviously lots of online orders.

MrsToothyBitch · 03/10/2020 07:12

I'm buying my Christmas cards next week and I've planned what to get most people. Hoping to be finished by late Nov/early Dec.

lojoko · 03/10/2020 07:14

I never begin Christmas before Advent. I get tired of it otherwise.

Bickles · 03/10/2020 07:18

I’ve nearly finished but I always do my Christmas shopping to be finished by the end of November. Then December is spent wrapping and doing fun things.
This year I’m not sure there will be many fun things but I’d still rather be organised!

ginsparkles · 03/10/2020 07:19

I have, but I would have started this sort of time every year.

IvyRose77886 · 03/10/2020 07:25

Yes already started. Made a decent dent already.
Also put my M&S food order in to collect Xmas eve, £140 down and still need to get some bits but I’m having an easy Xmas this year!

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/10/2020 07:28

I used to be just about done by now but dd is older so I can’t just buy stuff and expect her to be delighted. I haven’t started this year yet, which is unusual.

Wakemeupwhenthisisover · 03/10/2020 07:30

I’m almost finished, and heading to shops today to completely finish. This isn’t a Covid thing I always start early as have lots to buy for, but this year I’m not leaving online shopping to last min as I reckon will be big delays.

movingonup20 · 03/10/2020 07:31

I think many people do, not me, I'm more of a "better upgrade to prime because we missed the last day for free shipping from amazon" person or better still e vouchers!

Di11y · 03/10/2020 07:32

Well I've started thinking about it... Which is pretty good for me. I've been warned that theres no way the postal system can cope with many more people buying online so to get it early.

Mother40 · 03/10/2020 07:32

I never start thinking about christmas until November. Beginning of October seems much too early. I couldn't believe.on.the radio the other day in.September they were already on about christmas. I don't want to think about.Christmas for over a quarter of the year!

movingonup20 · 03/10/2020 07:35

Still have no idea whether we will have moved (hopefully, searches are back) or where Boris will let us socialise. Will students be able to travel? We have 3 between us away at university

Hahaha88 · 03/10/2020 07:37

@AgeLikeWine

No I’m not shopping for bloody Christmas yet. Nor will I until December, on principle.
Please explain how it affects your principles to start Christmas shopping before Dec
popcorndiva · 03/10/2020 07:39

I got DS main present in August so I wouldn't stress as I know he will be fine even if we go into proper lockdown. Last couple of weeks I have sorted 3 more for my nephews and starting researching for everyone else.

I do like to get it all done by December normally anyway

Sirzy · 03/10/2020 07:39

With not knowing what on Earth is going to happen in the next few months I have made sure I have main and much wanted presents in. Stocking filler type stuff not so much yet.

I would rather be organised and have it all in early than be locked down and have issues getting things.

keziahthecat · 03/10/2020 07:39

I've almost finished mine. I usually start early but the threat of lockdown and the logistics of getting presents to everyone on time have spurred me on to start even earlier!

popcorndiva · 03/10/2020 07:41

Oh I am also this weekend going to decide on the Christmas card design I will get DS to make. Have to make them early as we send one over to Australia

Washimal · 03/10/2020 07:43

I started around June. I always do.
Both my DC, and a few other family members have Winter birthdays so it makes sense to spread the cost of Christmas across the year. December is also a very busy time at work so I don't want the stress of last minute shopping.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 03/10/2020 07:46

I've finished for my youngest other then little stocking fillers if I see anything good and have a few bits for my eldest.

My eldest birthday is 1/1 and I have nieces birthdays on 27/11, 22/12 and 30/12 so those four birthdays, plus Xmas for my 2 and 5 nieces I have to start early or wouldn't be able to afford it.

As DD has got older its hard to predict what she would like so I have saved money to get her presents now rather then spread the cost across the year.

I think everyone does it different to match their circumstances.
