That seems a lot

So I’m wondering if it’s true

In a very unscientific poll

YABU = not xmas shopping yet
YANBU = yes I’m shopping for Christmas

OP posts:
Didkdt · 03/10/2020 01:41

I normally shop the last 2 weeks before Christmas for the first year ever I'm starting early. It's a covid thing I was shielded im conscious I could be again
I struggled with deliveries for a while at tge start so I just feel more inclined to be prepared if things go wrong

AlwaysLatte · 03/10/2020 01:43

I started recently and about halfway through my list, hoping to finish in a week or so. I want to be super organised this year as who knows what will happen with deliveries in the winter. Amazon driver is here so often my husband will start to get suspicious 😂

OlympicProcrastinator · 03/10/2020 02:43

I’m almost done. The best tip anyone ever gave me was to start buying what you can in the January sales including wrapping paper etc dirt cheap.

Wrap everything as you go, making a list of what you have so you don’t forget.

Anything that you won’t know like teens stuff ask in September then you’ve got 3-4 months to pick up those last bits and it’s not too expensive then as you’ve already done the rest. My teen wants a fairly pricey gift but as I’ve had everything else wrapped up ready, including stocking fillers since January it’s not a worry and it’s stress free! Will be doing this again next year.

FixItUpChappie · 03/10/2020 02:55

I've got quite a bit of the kids stuff - I'm concerned about slow delivery closer too this year.

Strokethefurrywall · 03/10/2020 03:29

I've done all of mine for the kids, but we live on a Covid free island in the Caribbean and I fucked Christmas up so bad last year that I'm making up for it this year.

I live in fear of another lock down so I've ordered and received everything that the kids would want (they're relatively predictable!)

MrsPworkingmummy · 03/10/2020 03:42

Yes, I have started but this is no earlier than usual for me. I begin making lists in the summer and usually shop from September onwards. My Christmas food cupboard already has large tubs of Heroes and Celebrations as these were on special in Aldi a few weeks ago, and I'll now add something each week . I've ordered vegan/non toxic wax melt gift sets from a local company for 4 relatives and my children, so far, have a hot wheels garage, hot wheels car, a slime kit and some Harry Potter Lego. The toddler will be getting Bruder construction vehicles and our daughter some roller boots and a laptop. I'm holding off ordering food for Christmas lunch and tea as we usually host around 20 family members over the course of the day and that's looking highly unlikely this year.

Audreyseyebrows · 03/10/2020 04:27

I’m being organised this year just in case. I’ve done the adults and started on the dc. For me this means I can buy nice things rather than last minute things just because I’ve run out of time.
I’ve got a Christmas savings account so haven’t noticed the increased spending.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 03/10/2020 04:33

I normally buy bits through out the year and stash them in a locked cupboard so Christmas isn’t a huge expense.

squeekums · 03/10/2020 05:00

I'm almost finished
Wanted to make sure stuff was in stock and it shipped in time

liverbird10 · 03/10/2020 05:19

Christmas is cancelled. Bah bloody humbug.

Oysterbabe · 03/10/2020 05:27

I've bought a couple of bits.

InvincibleInvisibility · 03/10/2020 05:29

I usually start thinking in August and buying September/October.

This year Ive already bought several things. Im not in the UK and during the strict lockdown last time all non essential deliveries were forbidden after the first 3 weeks. This included toys, clothes, furniture...(all of which we needed!)

redcarbluecar · 03/10/2020 05:48

I haven’t, but I only buy for 3 people and don’t host, so I’m probably not all that representative. Will probably start in November.

hypochondriacseveywhere · 03/10/2020 05:49

I've bought most of my mine just little bits left.

YessicaHaircut · 03/10/2020 06:00

Yes I started mine about a week ago; will mostly be shopping online so want to be sure it arrives in good time and also to spread the cost as I’m on mat leave. I heard on the radio yesterday it was 12 weeks until Xmas day so figure if I get a couple of things each week it will all be sorted in time! Must admit though, I was in Aldi on Wednesday and they had their mince pies, Christmas pudding etc and it definitely felt too early to be getting things like that.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/10/2020 06:02

DH ordered DDs main presents last night (technical hobby stuff).
I've got an Amazon basket filling with books/stocking ideas for them, some of which will be trimmed down or farmed out to other relatives that ask. And I'll shop around. (One of the books I'll order soon as it says 1-2 month delivery)
Now I need to think about everyone else.

MaryShelley1818 · 03/10/2020 06:04

I finished last month (apart from sweets/food related gifts).
It's DS's Birthday in December and I'm due to give birth in January. I want to spend December relaxing and just enjoying it.

PurePeppermint · 03/10/2020 06:17

I started this week as we live somewhere that is having major supply chain issues, and I really want to shop as local as possible. So if I see something, I’m buying it then and there.

CupoTeap · 03/10/2020 06:26

Can't vote as on my phone - yes

garlictwist · 03/10/2020 06:27

I haven't even thought about Christmas shopping. I usually do it all in December. It doesn't take long and is mainly online.

Ohhgreat · 03/10/2020 06:28

I'm finished with the exception of big present for my eldest, which I will wait until closer to the time. Havent started wrapping yet though!

FippertyGibbett · 03/10/2020 06:40

I refuse to think about Xmas until Halloween is over 👻 🎃

MsSquiz · 03/10/2020 06:41

I can't vote, but I have started shopping.

I usually start around now though, as we also have my 3 nephews & nieces birthdays in December, and DD's 1st birthday is the 18th December this year!

They're pretty easy to buy for though, as they're into Disney princesses, marvel, and Pokemon. The adults are harder!

TheSeedsOfADream · 03/10/2020 06:46

Almost done. All online.
Mainly thanks to the bargain threads. As ever.

HelloDulling · 03/10/2020 06:52

I’ve done bits and bobs, but will try and get most done by the end of this month. The shops already have long queues outside on some days, that’s not going to get better if I wait any longer.
