1/3 of people already Christmas shopping

That seems a lot

So I’m wondering if it’s true

In a very unscientific poll

YABU = not xmas shopping yet
YANBU = yes I’m shopping for Christmas

Finishing off next week, sending in-laws stuff ordering the f and m stuff and maybe Thornton’s for me fudge in chocolate and a coffee selection

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 20/11/2020 23:04

We have also started the Christmas cupboard (not actually a cupboard, I stole the name from Derry Girls), if I see something in the supermarket that we'll eat at Christmas that won't go off or can be frozen I'll buy it. We don't know what will be available in December and I don't want to be without lebkuchen or a lindt reindeer cos I waited.

Saracen · 21/11/2020 01:36

I don't usually start this early, but will be doing nearly all of it online this year so I have to plan ahead a bit more.

Littleposh · 21/11/2020 01:36

I would expect it to be a lot more tbh

MummmyDayCareNameChangeAGAIN · 21/11/2020 07:22

I'm done & all wrapped!!

nosswith · 21/11/2020 07:24

Only 1/3 rd? I think it's higher.

Littlepond · 21/11/2020 07:25

I always start in September. Spread the cost.

CuntyMcBollocks · 21/11/2020 08:16

Mines finished, but I started getting bits here and there ages ago.

MrsMomoa · 21/11/2020 08:21

I can't afford to buy everything in one month.
I started in July.

lljkk · 21/11/2020 08:23

There was a radio story about supply chain disruption due to shipping containers being in wrong places in the world. Anyway, I've persuaded DH to order things by 10 December & not wait for 22 December this year.

funtimefrank · 21/11/2020 08:30

Almost done. I made dds do theirs last night (all on Amazon to my shame). They have to 'buy' for dh, dm and each other but I pay. They will get mine with daddy later today.

We only buy for nephew and niece which I did in October - sil thought I was mad but I have to spread the cost. I got pil a hamper from Bettys this year which is all ordered as I saw that selling out.

So I have to order my mums chocolate subscription but I think I'm going to have to delay that until just before Christmas as you don't seem to be able to delay the start date. Then we are getting dds phones for the first time. Again, not sure if we can delay the contract start date until Xmas eve.

I also have to get dds a bday present as selfishly their birthday is 2 weeks after Christmas. My poor bank balance.

SD1978 · 21/11/2020 08:30

It makes sense. Having no idea what contact is going to be allowed with shops, and online shopping wait times will explode. Being a bit more organised if you're able to this year juts makes sense- if the to be in a lockdown and then trying to work out WTH I'm getting at short notice with no shops available!

Malin52 · 21/11/2020 08:35

We don't do Xmas presents. For anyone. They are stressful and wasteful. I don't need 6 tubes of hand cream, 4 pairs of pyjamas that don't fit and an ugly photo frame.

Joyful calmness in this house

Malin52 · 21/11/2020 08:40

I would have hoped that after this year the majority of people would have thought "you know what, no one wants this shite I buy, I don't want whatever shite people buy me either" and we would see an end to stupid Xmas presents. Seems not. Confused

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/11/2020 08:43

I’d guess that a men-only poll might conclude that many of them start on Christmas Eve.

Chailatte20 · 21/11/2020 08:45

I've got 10 family birthdays during the winter so I need to get organised & spread the cost. Also, if getting gifts & food early takes the pressure off shops & deliveries then it's not a bad thing. It also, leaves a bit of leeway in the system for businesses & people who can't buy early.

SymphonyofShadows · 21/11/2020 08:45

I’ve usually finished at this point. As it stands I’ve given DH the money for the thing he wants as I’m out of my depth there, got the gifts DM and Dsis in my M&S online basket and hoping for a code, and I’m waiting to see if the tech stuff the DC want goes down in the Black Friday reductions. It’s weird not to be all done and wrapped by now.

Autumn101 · 21/11/2020 08:48

I’ve done about half I think - I wouldn’t normally have but trying to support our local businesses so ordering from them and delivery isn’t as quick as thankfully they are all quite busy!!

Plus I had an operation a few weeks ago and with lockdown I’ve been bored at home so online shopping has kept me busy

CuntYoureFired · 21/11/2020 08:51

Haven’t started. I’m usually a bit more organised than this but I needed a new car and DD needed braces. I’m broke AF.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/11/2020 09:34

Nearly finished

I need one last present that is fun but useful for a 24, 22, 19 and 17 year old, 3 male and 1 female

if anyone has any ideas....

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/11/2020 09:38

On this note

We do presents for children (including our own) and my dad

Thats it, so it is much quicker and easier and we only get presents from the children and my dad

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/11/2020 09:39

Oh and we are 80/90% there with the food as well

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 21/11/2020 13:20

Almost done here. Got DDs organised about a month ago, the rest we went shopping last weekend before tier 4 started (Scotland) and blitzed it. Harder this year, before now DD was the only child we had to buy for, this year we also have 3 nephews (1 new born, a 9 year old and an 11 year old who are BILs DSS, we were previously NC with BIL) and a 5 month old niece.

My house is full to bursting with presents for kids and I love it. DPs is almost sorted too, waiting til Black Friday sales for the rest.
