That seems a lot

So I’m wondering if it’s true

In a very unscientific poll

YABU = not xmas shopping yet
YANBU = yes I’m shopping for Christmas

The earlier the better this year

Janevaljane · 03/10/2020 00:00

so no, i haven't even thought about it apart from saving some money every month.

Rebelwithallthecause · 03/10/2020 00:00

@Janevaljane

All those who've finished - don't you get things people want? Or do you just buy random things? My teens often would like special things and make lists. I don't ask them to make lists in August!
That’s what I’d worry about starting this early

I suppose if you've got toddlers you can buy them any old crap and they will be delighted Grin

Crabbo · 03/10/2020 00:07

I’ve got most of it, just a couple of things left. I’m expecting a baby in November though and one of my kids birthday is right after Christmas. Agree it’s probably trickier if they are older and asking for specific things but mine are only little so I can decide in advance what to get them. Also they only get a couple of things each so it’s not loads to have it mostly done already.

pumpkinpie01 · 03/10/2020 00:07

I have got quite a bit and am wrapping as I go so actually wrapped a few tonight. I want it all done by December so I'm not stressed or skint .

Sparklesocks · 03/10/2020 00:08

I haven’t. But I can see why people would be spreading the cost due to recent job losses/furlough/financial insecurity.

Janevaljane · 03/10/2020 00:10

Yes, I've spread the cost by saving a bit every month. I won't shop until November. I'll ask the teens for some ideas then.

Emeraldshamrock · 03/10/2020 00:14

Yes I've started.
I've a feeling there'll be stock shortages this year if all else fails I've a few presents in for the DC I'm not push after that.

Badabingbadabum · 03/10/2020 00:16

Yep, presents beginning to stack up in the cupboard. It's cheering me up, something nice to think about. I'm putting time into getting dds things they are really going to love. It also spreads the cost and is less stressful. I am also going to buy enough wrapping paper and selotape this year!

Janevaljane · 03/10/2020 00:16

We've made a conscious decision as a family only to have a few presents this year and spend more money on food. I might start buying nice pickles and chocs

riotlady · 03/10/2020 00:18

I’ve started, nice to spread the cost and I like having it done by December so I can relax and chill out

Franticbutterfly · 03/10/2020 00:20

I have bought a lot already. Got a few things today.

scrivette · 03/10/2020 00:25

I have a few books that were a bargain so couldn't leave them until later in the year and have just bought DD a sleeping bag that she needs but will wrap up for her. (She is little so gifts can come under 'any old crap' category)

Lockdownproblems · 03/10/2020 00:39

I'm not shopping but I've been giving my mum a couple hundred pounds a month for last 3 months to look after for me because I'm shit at saving and dont really know what to.buy yet.

joystir59 · 03/10/2020 00:43

I'm shopping for Christmas in my head

Worriedsick3000 · 03/10/2020 00:44

Finished the shopping only because we got a unexpected windfall and wanted something to look forward to thats normal. No food or alcohol yet as they would be gone by xmas.

Inkpaperstars · 03/10/2020 00:44

No, have not started. I can see good reason for getting a bit ahead this year, although I can also see us exchanging presents late with most family members if we have to meet on separate occasions due to restrictions. I can't really start though, since as PP said people will give me 'ideas' much later in the year....they just wouldn't come up with them now.

The only thing I know I am planning to get is a book for my DM which hasn't yet gone to print.

LindaEllen · 03/10/2020 00:50

I don't 'actively' shop until November, but I do get into the mindset of if I see things, I pick them up. I haven't seen much yet, nor have I specifically been 'Christmas shopping', but I will admit that I have had it all done by October in the past.

SantaClaritaDiet · 03/10/2020 00:50

I always start and finish mine in November. It's nearly too early as it is to get things my kids want!

Christmas is ONE day. I might be guilty of putting my tree up on 1st December (and get rid of it on the 26th), but I am not wasting 3 months focusing on it.

It is much harder this year, sounds like October breaks will be very limited. I know we can go on the beach in England, but it's not the same is it!

DisaL · 03/10/2020 00:52

I've started shopping which is early for me. I work in Logistics and the industry is in chaos. No space on vessels to ship anything and no haulage in the UK to deliver anything that does arrive. Forecast is that it will improve through November but still likely to cause shortages online and in stores so I want to get what I can as early as possible.

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/10/2020 00:52

I am. Normally I do it in December but I am doing it now to spread the cost.

BeingLonely · 03/10/2020 01:02

Yep I’ve bought quite a lot. I have 4 birthdays between now and Xmas including my dd’s and I don’t earn a great wage so it’s the only way to do it without getting into debt

Jojobar · 03/10/2020 01:03

Haven't started yet, won't for at least another 4-6 weeks. However no orgy of gift giving here nor massive list of people to buy for - a modest no of presents for my 2 adult DC, a couple for my partner plus a small gift for eldest's GF. I do have cards to write though, I always end up rushing that mid Dec so I might try and do that next month for a change (already have the cards, bought after Christmas in the sale).

HeIenaDove · 03/10/2020 01:13

Im waiting on my Studio catalogue. This year much like Margot Leadbetter my Christmas will be coming in a van, in my case for the very first time. Today rubber stamped this choice!!
