to not believe Trump has Covid?

Well, MN, does he or doesn't he?

YANBU - no, he doesn't have it
YABU - yes he probably does, why would they lie?

Is this just some ploy to miss next debates and make him look 'tough' when he sails through it without getting ill?

I don't, and nor did the child. She said he didn't help them, not that he caused them to have it. Not the same at all.

“Good news - Trump’s got Covid! That’ll pay him back for all those people he didn’t help”.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/10/2020 21:08

Sorry: mine was a reply to HelloToMyKitty.

If he doesn't have it the advantages to him would be that he gets to avoid another debate - he will have hate that the format of future debates will now be changed to ensure he can't talk over his opposition again.
He also gets to say how awful it is that he is not able to robustly defend himself when the opposition ramp up criticism of him as the election looms. He would also have an opportunity to make
a statement on how thankfully with the prayers of a nation behind him he is fully "recovered" and "has never felt better in fact he feels healthier than he did before he had the virus" or some such nonsense. It wouldn't surprise me if he comes out with some war talk crap about how he can look every American in the eye now he has conquered their common enemy and defeated this threat to humanity etc

If he does have it I expect that this has been detected very early as he probably gets tested frequently. He was quick to tweet support of his close aid Hope Hicks when she tested positive only a few hours before he did and had already quarantined at the White House.

If he loses the election he will blame Covid
If he wins the election he will probably liken his presidency to the divine right of kings and reaffirm his absolute belief that he alone is the saviour of America.

Personally I don't think he has it. I find it difficult to believe a word that comes out of his mouth. If he genuinely does have it then he is like a modern day example of the boy who cried wolf.

Devlesko · 02/10/2020 21:38

Johnson vocabulary in his interview. He said something like I'm sure they (Trump and Melo) will stage a good recovery.
It's like a pantomime, "he's behind you" "Oh, no he isn't".

HelloToMyKitty · 02/10/2020 21:44

Virginia did no better than NY. My son was in NYC for college and they acted fast

The stats say otherwise. Far more deaths in NYC. Only outstripped per capita by New Jersey

HelloToMyKitty · 02/10/2020 21:48

She says it’s good news that someone has coronavirus. Which is pretty horrid by itself. Not sure how he purposefully ‘didn’t help’ and I don’t suppose PP DC could either.

You realize that the population of NYC is just a little higher than the whole state of Virginia. They have 8 million people in an extremely small area
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/10/2020 22:29

HelloToMyKitty
Not sure how he purposefully ‘didn’t help’ and I don’t suppose PP DC could either.

Denied it was happening at all for two crucial months until it had really taken hold.

Denied funding to areas which were desperate for PPE. Withheld federally-held PPE from states that hadn't voted for him on the grounds that they were federal, not for states.

Encouraged people not to take precautions such as wearing mask.

Originated more untrue rumours about it than anyone else in the world. metro.co.uk/2020/10/01/donald-trump-named-worlds-biggest-coronavirus-conspiracy-theorist-13356758/

I'm sure there are more reasons to think him as much use as a chocolate fireguard in this matter, but those will do to go on with. Whether it was deliberate or sheer stupidity I can't state as a fact judge, but once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, the third time is enemy action.

itsagogo · 02/10/2020 22:47

Apparently been admitted to hospital now.

People didn’t rely on trains as much as they did in NYC.
managinged · 02/10/2020 22:56

This afternoon he was admitted to Walter Reed medical center in Washington. I really don't think this is fake.

blueberrypie0112 · 02/10/2020 22:57

@itsagogo

Yes, a military hospital, they are saying they are going to try an experimental drug (that he have been praising about) on him.

Ah the benefits of being a president:lifetime free healthcare

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/10/2020 23:19

As a precaution, in the same way as Boris was admitted as a precaution.

HoldMyLobster · 02/10/2020 23:27

He just walked out to Marine One. He's not in a gurney or a wheelchair or anything like that.

HoldMyLobster · 02/10/2020 23:30

A helicopter to take him 10 miles...

LadyLoungeALot · 02/10/2020 23:47

It's a security thing. Nobody wants to have to transport a head of state as an emergency. There are protocols re: security and checking routes etc. Far better all around to do it this way. Doesn't necessarily mean he's really that unwell yet.
raingoaway7 · 03/10/2020 01:57

Oh look... now the left wingers are the crazy conspiracy theorist 🤣

AlternativePerspective · 03/10/2020 02:14

Apparently been admitted to hospital now. Well, given the amount of speculation out there that he doesn’t really have it they have to make it look convincing....

Wafflesontop · 03/10/2020 02:21

Did you assume it was fake when Boris Johnson had it or Justin Trudeau?

occa · 03/10/2020 02:29

There are huge advantages to him lying about this (and he's told over 24,000 proven lies during his term of office, so it's not exactly unlikely that he's lying now).

He is behind in the polls. He has nothing to lose.
No more debating.
Sympathy vote.
Pence can take over as the face of the campaign. A lot of marginal GOP members prefer Pence.
He can miraculously 'recover' and confirm that it's not a serious virus.
He can use 'treatments' that he and his family have been touting and have financial interest in.
ALL the attention (and news coverage) is now off Biden and back on Trump, just where he likes it.
Biden has already pulled all negative advertising - it's almost impossible for Biden to attack Trump now without looking like an ass.
There are a LOT more unpleasant revelations about Trump scheduled to come out in October. This will either stop these revelations or minimize their effects and make sure Trump doesn't have to answer any awkward questions.
Potentially gives him ammo for walking away from the nomination to save face if he looks sure to lose.

occa · 03/10/2020 02:31

Saying he's been 'admitted to hospital' is a bit of a stretch. He'll be working for the Presidential Office in Walter Reed for the next little while as a 'precaution' (which gives him a chance for a lovely rest at a stage in the campaigning when both candidates are typically totally exhausted).

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/10/2020 03:48

Looking like that Rose Garden event at the weekend might have been a bit of a mistake.

If it is a lie, it’s one hell of a lie at this point. Senators & press pool in on it too.

turnitonagain · 03/10/2020 04:25

Too many people in the Republican Party have tested positive now for this to be a viable hoax.

elmouno · 03/10/2020 04:33

Isn't it interesting how quickly people have stopped talking about how, as a multimillionaire, he pays less tax than a teacher?

HoldMyLobster · 03/10/2020 05:13

We’re still talking about that almouno, in my bit of the US at least. And my absentee ballot arrived today. I’m looking forward to filling it in.
