To ask if giving a false phone number is a thing?

DuckyMcDuck · 01/10/2020 18:31

Went to a cafe with a friend, we sat outside but she was asked for her phone number. Once we sat down, she admitted that she always gives a false number and so does everyone she knows.

Is this really a common thing? I haven't been in places very much but have always given my number when asked.

Is anyone else curious to know what kind of face to face job Potter does?

Why would you be curious what type of job I do 😂

Obviously it’s ‘Potter’... can’t be bothered to name change back.
Straven123 · 03/10/2020 13:41

The cafes should request the customer txt them/or some designated number - then they'd have their real number.
People are Twats.

Ginfordinner · 03/10/2020 14:28

That is genius @Straven123, and so simple. The waiting staff could just say "I will just check this number", and if the person who gave the number's phone doesn't ring they will know it is a fake number.

catpoooffender · 03/10/2020 14:29

@Potterpotterpotter

Perhaps if you didn’t go out so often to pubs and restaurants you’d be able to have savings in case you need to self isolate for two weeks.

I have savings, doesn’t mean I want to use them because joe blogs 10 tables across In the pub has got covid.

I’d rather spend them on something more worthy then staying in my house for two weeks bored shitless.

Selfish prick
whatsyournamenow · 03/10/2020 14:33

I think it's totally wrong to give the wrong phone number.

I've read this thread and cannot believe the attitude of some people, truly shocking!

Particularly Potter or is is she ivyrose (ivyrose answered as is she were potter a couple of posts ago, but I may be confused) who literally says I don't care I know anyone vulnerable? You really can't be sure of that.

Two weeks ago my sister was a healthy happy 60 year old, until she found that lump...... she's now a grade 4 cancer patient. Two weeks and her life has been turned upside down.

She had no idea she was vulnerable but she was.

whatsyournamenow · 03/10/2020 14:34

I don't know anyone vulnerable.

JinglingHellsBells · 03/10/2020 14:43

@Potterpotterpotter @IvyRose77886 MNHQ might ban you anyway now as you are changing names within the same thread.

whatsyournamenow · 03/10/2020 14:47

Oh dear, hope she's better at giving false numbers than she is with false names.

Janevaljane · 03/10/2020 14:50

You don't get banned for name changing! Or everyone would be banned Grin

She said shes potter so no issue. I know anyone questioning THE GUIDELINES is fair game (let's slag off your parents and kids and hope you get a disease), but honestly you need to calm the fuck down.

I thought it was law to provide your name and number when visiting a cafe, pub etc? If it was guidelines would t people just say no?

JinglingHellsBells · 03/10/2020 15:24

I assume you are taking this casual attitude @Janevaljane because you live in a 'particularly unaffected area of the UK'.

Not for much longer perhaps if these posters are your neighbours Grin

JinglingHellsBells · 03/10/2020 15:25

It IS the law.

Ddot · 03/10/2020 15:49

Hope I don't have so called friends like that. All I can say is ( me, me, me and only me )

Janevaljane · 03/10/2020 15:50

I'm taking it seriously, but I'm mature and intelligent enough to realise I am unlikely to get or pass on Covid by occasionally visiting a pub or cafe. Sadly for some, frothing on the Internet doesn't give you protection against cv.

Hrt not working @JinglingHellsBells?

I’m just rolling my eyes at all the shit people are saying to be honest. Only on mumsnet.
whatsyournamenow · 03/10/2020 16:10

But @Janevaljane I live in a very rural area, the pub is around 0.8 miles away. If I visit and drive home drunk, I'm very unlikely to have an accident or kill anyone, so is that ok to do?

I'd say no.

It's against the law?

So do we have pick and mix laws?

That last comment is nasty.
whatsyournamenow · 03/10/2020 16:26

Obviously I don't not drink Drive, just because it's against the law. I don't do it because I don't want to kill or hurt someone with my reckless actions.

Much the same as being infected by CV and inadvertently passing it on.

JinglingHellsBells · 03/10/2020 16:29

I'm taking it seriously, but I'm mature and intelligent enough to realise I am unlikely to get or pass on Covid by occasionally visiting a pub or cafe.

Really intelligent and mature people know that Covid does not restrict itself to the number of times you are in a pub or a cafe. You can get it with one visit, you might not get it in 100 visits.

This thread is not about how often anyone goes, it's about giving your details in order to protect other people.

whatsyournamenow · 03/10/2020 16:36

I'm taking it seriously, but I'm mature and intelligent enough to realise I am unlikely to get or pass on Covid by occasionally visiting a pub or cafe.

How could you possibly, possibly know that? You've no idea who is in there with you, where they've travelled from, have they washed their hands that day etc.

You couldn't possibly be aware of how likely you are to catch CV. However, if you're traced you do know that you're an increased risk and could save health and lives.

I would urge you to rethink your decisions. All the people on here saying they give fake info.

It's just not fair, it's wrong.
