To ask if giving a false phone number is a thing?

DuckyMcDuck · 01/10/2020 18:31

Went to a cafe with a friend, we sat outside but she was asked for her phone number. Once we sat down, she admitted that she always gives a false number and so does everyone she knows.

Is this really a common thing? I haven't been in places very much but have always given my number when asked.

The guilt tripping about ICUs quite frankly stinks.

@MaxNormal Are you living in some parallel universe?

You do know that 1000s of people are dying because their cancer treatment and diagnosis was stopped to keep beds in hospitals open for covid? (And yes, some weren't needed, because hospitals stopped all other admissions. so there is now the back log of operations and treatment which have to be dealt with.)

You have all the criticism but no answers, it seems.

What would you do if you were in No 10 tomorrow?

I'm sick to death of people criticising what's wrong, but not offering any real workable solution.

The point now is we are trying to control the spread until a vaccine is available which could be 3-6 months.

In the meantime we have to keep the numbers down as winter flu is coming along and that, plus Covid, would mean more hospital admissions which in turn will mean more people not being treated for other life threatening diseases.

(I have a friend with a chronic illness whose treatment has been paused, with permanent damage to her, for 8 months due to covid closing down the dept that deals with her disease.)

This is the reality so instead of making illogical, senseless statements, maybe live in the real world?
@Janevaljane stop worrying about it? So some peoples respect hugely at risk but unknown (could be you or any one of friends or family) who are going out and are more at risk because you've been to cafe a which had an outbreak but because you lie and cheat the system you're now having a jolly old time in pub b so easing it there!

I know @IvyRose77886 and her Covid name @Potterpotterpotter has said she doesn't give a fuck about anyone outside her friends and family, but do you not care either?

We all make mistakes, like @IvyRose77886 messing up her user name (quickly tried to cover it up with a "I couldn't be bothered to name change 🤔) then had disappeared, but doing the above fine set a mistake, it's a choice.
It wasn’t a mistake and it wasn’t a covid name. I change name frequently.
I haven’t disappeared but I also don’t talk about the same thing for DAYS upon DAYS.

JinglingHellsBells · 04/10/2020 07:55

Well I’m not actually talking about the topic am I 🤨
MaxNormal · 04/10/2020 08:06

But all your worrying and shouting about rule breakers isn't changing anything, you're literally just sounding off on an Internet board, it's not altering the course of the disease or people's behaviour in any way.

You have probably unwittingly spread cold and flu viruses in the past that have gone on to kill people. This happens, no-one is at fault.

JinglingHellsBells · 04/10/2020 08:17

But all your worrying and shouting about rule breakers isn't changing anything, you're literally just sounding off on an Internet board, it's not altering the course of the disease or people's behaviour in any way.

And so are you.(Literally.) What are you getting out of it other than to make yourself look daft and admit you have no answers?

And as you your first point, I think it's fair to say that 99% of people on this thread are doing the right thing to help society reduce the spread.

Yes, we are all sick of the restrictions (I've not seen one DC since last Xmas because they live in a high risk area and my DH is medically at risk) and my elderly mother , 350 miles away, only twice. We are all living with this.

Look at the variation across the country. My mother lives in one of the highest risk areas. She tells me about the behaviour of her neighbours which is directly linked to the huge increases in her town.
Their behaviour is akin to what you and a few others here suggest we should do.

The reason that people are on this thread is because - unlike YOU- we hope that by pointing out how the virus is transmitted, and making them have some kind of conscience about their behaviour instead of a 'fuck everyone, I'm doing what I want' - it might a)bring the restrictions to an end sooner and b) save lives.

And stop talking utter bollocks about passing on flu. We have a vaccine for flu.

Just in case you can't work out which bits are aimed at you @MaxNormal

MaxNormal · 04/10/2020 08:34

I'm clearly a terrible human being then unlike you sainted covid angels, and can talk mere bollox compared to your sharply insightful utterances so you crack on, let's see how many people you educate by insulting them.

ClarencesMum · 04/10/2020 08:35

And you think that prevents the spread of flu or deaths? Grin

Max's point is spot on.

ClarencesMum · 04/10/2020 08:36

The people lacking critical thinking skills are actually thick as fuck, and I feel sorry for them. Totally brainwashed, they're doing a good job on you all. Idiots.

ClarencesMum · 04/10/2020 08:39

Tell me, crazy covid folk, did you ever envisage a time when you would be foaming at the mouth, wishing serious illness and death on people you dobt know for not agreeing with you? Did you? I'm guessing not, why dont you take a second out of your day to actually think about that today. Several of you have done it on this thread, more than once.

Is that the person you want to be?

Giganticshark · 04/10/2020 08:54

If I'm in a beer garden, away from people then I'm not giving my number. Or in shops, etc.
Too many precious folk on ere, 'ohhhh I'm doing my bit iv not left the house since March, you're all scumbags' 😂

whatsyournamenow · 04/10/2020 09:00

Oh sorry @IvyRose77886 and @Potterpotterpotter I presumed that as you were posting under @IvyRose77886 on other posts and only @Potterpotterpotter that it was a name just for this thread?

And it clearly was a mistake, you didn't mean to do it, you made out you couldn't be bothered to name change, showing you were doing the name change just for this thread.

You really are very obviously being untruthful.

I

Giganticshark · 04/10/2020 09:00

I did give a restaurant my real number.
They now bombard me with offers via text.
Abusing the system a bit?

Women have been pestered by staff who get their numbers from t&t form.

Absolute abuse of a system. These people cannot be trusted with the tiniest amount of sensitive information

The people lacking critical thinking skills are actually thick as fuck, and I feel sorry for them. Totally brainwashed, they're doing a good job on you all. Idiots.

The people spreading the virus further and further are the ones thick as fuck! I don't feel sorry for them though.

I m not brainwashed m, just able to understand the science behind it.

It's quite simple really:/

When we were in lockdown the virus spread was greatly decreased, because we weren't mixing.

When we eased it, a huge increase in cases.

So what we do is try to (without full lockdown) lower the rate of cases by using information of where the virus currently is. Once we've identified that we alert people that have been there and get them to isolate, this stops another spread.

Just imagine if everyone ignored all the rules? We'd have 100000s of cases.

It's the idiots who pretend to follow the rules we have to look out for. Especially the ones that can't even get their names right on a forum, not that is fucking thick!

JinglingHellsBells · 04/10/2020 09:10

If I'm in a beer garden, away from people then I'm not giving my number If you are in a pub and even outside you need- legally- to give your name and tel nos. They are breaking the law not to take them

JinglingHellsBells · 04/10/2020 09:13

Absolute abuse of a system. These people cannot be trusted with the tiniest amount of sensitive information

So do you do any online shopping?
Do you belong to social media sites?
Do you have a bank account online?

If so, they have far far more 'sensitive' information. All your details are constantly being sold. Online sites like Facebook and Mumsnet are basically data gathering sites. What you look at, say and watch are all being held in a data warehouse.

Maybe you didn't know that?

In the middle of a global pandemic which has killed so many people, the odd spam call which can be deleted in a second is not exactly an issue in my life.

JinglingHellsBells · 04/10/2020 09:15

The people lacking critical thinking skills are actually thick as fuck, and I feel sorry for them. Totally brainwashed, they're doing a good job on you all. Idiots.

Oh that's right, try to cover up your own comments and views by resorting to personal attacks and swearing. So clever. So logical, So full of insight and intelligence.

Sorry but the only people who are thick are those who refuse to abide by the rules and LAWs to help control the spread until a vaccine is found.

whatsyournamenow · 04/10/2020 09:18

And basically the liars are lying because they know that it's possible they'll be contacted.

Otherwise if your visit to the pub is no risk, what are the chances etc, then just tell the truth?

Oliversmumsarmy · 04/10/2020 09:20

Their behaviour is akin to what you and a few others here suggest we should do

When I have suggested that people in areas that have had local lockdowns in the past I have been shot down in flames for suggesting that people aren’t adhering to SD and mask wearing and really the lockdown in some areas were ignored.

Only a few weeks ago I drove through a town centre where there was definitely not any SD going on, no one was wearing a mask. Every shop looked like it had an unmasked crowd in.

Now that place is in the at risk area for a lock down.

The problem is whilst parts of the country is adhering by the rules and businesses are going down hill, jobs are being lost and people are living hand to mouth on UC in order to get a handle on this virus. Other parts it is business as usual and all rules and regulations are ignored.

Whilst we have crowds out on the streets, house parties and crowds of people in pubs and drinking in the street then we are still going to have this virus.

If we all can’t lockdown or adhere to even the basic rule of being 2 metres away from a stranger in the street we might as well give up and get it over with.

All we are doing is prolonging the inevitable and people will die but probably less than if we stretch this out over many many years to come.

A vaccine might help but who knows when that is going to come. Do we stay in for ever more slowly starving to death when our money runs out.
Not being able to access treatment for anything other than Covid. (Dp is stage 4 bowel cancer and his treatment stopped over Covid. Although in theory it has started again he has resigned himself to not being able to access anything)

It is no good blaming the government.

They have said what we need to do.

If people choose not to listen then they might as well give up.

If everyone had locked down in March and adhered to the rules then after 12 weeks we should have been clear of the virus and not now having areas with 10 or 20 times more infections than other equally populated areas

Local lockdowns because of the spread of the virus is purely down to individuals making the choice to not wear a mask or SD and actively going into already busy areas unmasked

ClarencesMum · 04/10/2020 09:22

What is it I'm covering up?

@MaxNormal

Not really your call Ariadne

The restrictions clearly aren't sustainable. Human nature is what it is, and no amount of snarling or self congratulation on MN is going to change that.

The reality is that people can't or won't comply with something that makes them skint and miserable and that doesn't even have an end date.

You'll all honestly feel better if you stop worrying about what other people are doing.

This is one of the sanest posts I've ever read on MN. Thanks.
