It’s looking like this vaccine will be here sooner rather than later. I’m not sure how I feel about it to be honest.

Will you be getting the vaccine?
YABU - YES
YANBU - NO

I’m 36 and had to Shield. I have vulnerable family members. Absolutely, I’d be first in the queue if it was possible.

firstevernamechange · 01/10/2020 15:46

Yes

SmilingAloe · 01/10/2020 15:48

Of course I will. Not just for myself but also for those in society who can not and will be relying on the rest of us to provide herd immunity.

SherryPalmer · 01/10/2020 15:48

I should think so. I trust the government and the regulation here in Germany not to approve a vaccine rashly. Would probably feel the same if I was in the U.K.

Burnout101 · 01/10/2020 15:48

Unless they've got gallons of it to spare I won't be because I'm not in a risk group but I'd happily encourage my parents and DH who are to get it.

Pachonga · 01/10/2020 15:50

Yes, I have underlying conditions and don’t want to die 40 years too soon. I would also like to see my parents again. Sign me up.

Ocies · 01/10/2020 15:50

Absolutely, yes. I want this pandemic consigned to history.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 01/10/2020 15:51

It's going to be a while yet, has there been more information released about it today or something?

As far as I know it's still in the testing phase, and I don't think the facilities to produce it in large quantities are ready yet

thepeopleversuswork · 01/10/2020 15:52

Hell yes. Bring it.

I find it disturbing and depressing that we're still having to have these threads on a daily basis.

thepeopleversuswork · 01/10/2020 15:53

But unless you're in Russia you're unlikely to get one before spring next year anyway.

timetest · 01/10/2020 15:54

DH and I are getting on a bit and are a bit more at risk, so yes.

WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW · 01/10/2020 15:54

I’m not sure. I would but also think I shouldn’t because I’m young fit and healthy. The thought of taking a vaccine from someone higher risk just because of a ‘what if’ rather than their ‘when’ doesn’t sit right with me.

I’m assuming there will be some form of order that they administer the vaccine e.g most vulnerable groups first?

mindutopia · 01/10/2020 15:54

Yes, definitely, though as a scientist (some of the trials are taking place within my research teams - I don't work on them, but colleagues do), I don't think it will be here sooner rather than later. Some of the trials aren't even starting until December. Next year sometime hopefully there will be something, at least for the most vulnerable.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 01/10/2020 15:55

Nah, the pandemic is good fun, we should drag it out for as long as possible.

SunscreenCentral · 01/10/2020 15:56

If it means I can travel again without fear of catching it and giving it to my parents, yep.

Cabinfever10 · 01/10/2020 15:57

Yes I really want it so much so that I've signed up to be a test subject. I'm just hoping that the need me🤞

sloganhan · 01/10/2020 15:57

Given that it usually takes 9-10 years to safely produce a vaccine, I’m not sure if I would feel comfortable risking my families long term health especially my children.

The flu vaccine hasn’t eradicated the flu just like the malaria vaccine hasn’t eradicated malaria. I feel the vaccine may just offer us a false sense of security.

blueberrypie0112 · 01/10/2020 15:59

I would do the trial but they want healthy people.

LiveFromHome · 01/10/2020 15:59

No because I'm fairly fit and healthy, I don't routinely get the flu vaccine, and I'm happy to wait a few years to see if there are any short to medium term issues/side effects from the vaccine itself.

MarshaBradyo · 01/10/2020 15:59

I hope so

Is there an update on progress?

That's very thoughtful of you. Hiwever I assume that by the time you're offered it, those more in need will have already had it AND you'll be helping to protect those unable to have it.
Yorkshireswithallroasts · 01/10/2020 16:00

At this point I’d probably let Boris inject me himself so absolutely yes I will.

PasDevantLesElephants · 01/10/2020 16:02

You need to read up on why vaccines usually take so long in development and how the testing process works really, that may give you some comfort that this is not an untested 'rush job'.

I'd cheerfully have one of each of the 11 in Phase 3 of testing tomorrow to keep me and my family safe.

I think we often forget how lucky we are that we have access to free, safe vaccinations. So much so, that we begin to question whether we really need them. Trust me, we really do.

Gancanny · 01/10/2020 16:02

I'll be getting it as soon as I'm able to.

I’d presume that there’ll be some sort of priority system, like there is for e.g. the flu vaccine?

I’d happily have a Covid vaccine, but I imagine I’ll be right down the list when it comes to being offered one, as I’m not in a vulnerable group or a key worker.
