AIBU to think that most people who have a dishwasher run it once a day?

We bought a new dishwasher recently. It was heavily promoted as coming with six months' supply of Fairy dishwasher tablets. The tablets arrived yesterday and there are 120 of them. That's not six months' supply in this household, as we run the dishwasher every day. AIBU to think that wouldn't be half a year's worth in most other households?

I rang the manufacturer to query it and was told that it was six months' worth based on "data and surveys". Hmmmm. I'm not going to take this to the highest court in the land, obviously, but it does seem a bit crap. AIBU?

About twice a week.

Oops - name change fail, but the point stands. Smile

Ours is used about every day and a half (two of us with a good supply of crockery). But then we do wash up glass, saucepans and cutlery by hand. So 120 would be about right.for 6 months.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 01/10/2020 11:04

Just two of us and only goes on when full, probably average 5/6 times a week.

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 01/10/2020 11:05

5 of us and we run it once or twice a day. DH and I both working from home, toddler at home and 2 school aged DC who take a packed lunch in plastic pots so basically 15 meals worth of dishes every day.
If we didn’t run it every day we wouldn’t have any plates to eat off the following day!

MiniMum97 · 01/10/2020 11:05

I don't now why companies do this. Why didn't they just say it comes with 4 months supplely which sounds good and probably makes little difference to company take up. Rather than over promising and under delivering and leaving a bad impression of a company or brand with those consumers. Bizarre marketing decision.

Deadringer · 01/10/2020 11:05

We use ours at least once per day, sometimes twice, especially if we are baking. There are 6 of us in the house though. The cheapest tablets work the best ime

Xiaoxiong · 01/10/2020 11:05

During lockdown I was running it twice a day, family of 4, three meals at home.

Now the kids are back to school and DH eating lunch at work, we are back on average once a day - some days in the week we'll have had a takeaway for dinner and won't need to run that night, but on the weekends might have to run twice in a day.

My MIL only has to run every other or even every third day, it's just two of them. So yes, people who run the dishwasher very seldom will drag the average down. People who need to wash a lot will often have two dishwashers, instead of running a single one four times a day and dragging the average up.

AlwaysLatte · 01/10/2020 11:05

Why don't people put pans in? I hate hand washing them!

mynameiscalypso · 01/10/2020 11:06

Every day whether it's full or not - who wants grubby plates and things festering in there for days? We have a half load setting which uses less water.

SahmedOut · 01/10/2020 11:06

Once a day here. 4 of us three meals a day unless DH is in the office. I hand wash all the pots and pans, but it's full of plates and bowls every evening.

Brogues · 01/10/2020 11:06

Every other day for us. Don’t put pans in and reuse the same mug all day. We have 8 of each size of plate/bowl and plenty of silverware too.

inappropriateraspberry · 01/10/2020 11:08

Once, sometimes twice a day. Family of four and I'm veggie so often have a separate pan for my version of dinner, plus baking stuff, cat bowls, random toys that have mysteriously turned sticky overnight.
It's more environmentally friendly to use a dishwasher. Less water, and less power to heat that water.

Bastards.

Ours is on at least once a day. I empty it first thing and stack it as the day goes on. Depending on who's at home and what we've been doing (or baking or everyone here for lunch) it might need to go on after lunch and again at night.

LBOCS2 · 01/10/2020 11:09

Once a day here - at least. There are 5 of us, we cook an evening meal from scratch every night and DH and I are both WFH so there's often lunch bits to go in as well. Everything goes into our dishwasher; I hate washing up!

suspiciousbutdelicious · 01/10/2020 11:09

ours goes on every evening . there are 3 of us and its always full

Toothsil · 01/10/2020 11:09

That was supposed to say eg baking

TurkeyTrot · 01/10/2020 11:10

it is annoying, definitely, but it's only about 12-15 quids worth of tablets, which isn't much compared to the price of a dishwasher. The difference between what you've got and what you'd use in 6 months is probably a fiver, tops.

inappropriateraspberry · 01/10/2020 11:10

Why wash pans by hand? The great thing about dishwashers is that they can deal with all the mucky stuff, and you don't have to put your hands in dirty greasy water 🤢

Lazypuppy · 01/10/2020 11:10

We run ours maybe every 3 days or so. Me, DP and DD.

We only ho through 3 or 4 plates a day, so essentially put it on when it is full anf no plates/cutlery etc left.

CovidPostingName · 01/10/2020 11:11

Full size dishwasher, family of four, run it 2-3 times in the week when kids are in school, and daily at weekend. So yes, 120 would be about 5.5-6 months worth here. But we don't put saucepans in, they're done by hand. During lockdown it was daily all the time because of the extra lunch dishes each time.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 01/10/2020 11:11

Every day, sometimes twice at weekends or on birthdays and days when there's more baking/ special meals/ mid afternoon cake etc.

Do people who only put it on a few times per week have 3 complete sets of everything?

Wincher · 01/10/2020 11:13

We are a family of four and don't put pans in it generally but we still run it every day, twice if we have a roast on a Sunday. In the week at the mo we are both WFH so there are lots of mugs, plates from lunches etc, plus the kids' snacks after school/before bed all add up... During lockdown it was probably more than once a day on average with all of us at home the whole time! I would definitely feel short-changed with 120 tablets.

paap1975 · 01/10/2020 11:14

2 of us here and it runs every 2 days, probably. Sometimes less
