AIBU to think that most people who have a dishwasher run it once a day?

We bought a new dishwasher recently. It was heavily promoted as coming with six months' supply of Fairy dishwasher tablets. The tablets arrived yesterday and there are 120 of them. That's not six months' supply in this household, as we run the dishwasher every day. AIBU to think that wouldn't be half a year's worth in most other households?

I rang the manufacturer to query it and was told that it was six months' worth based on "data and surveys". Hmmmm. I'm not going to take this to the highest court in the land, obviously, but it does seem a bit crap. AIBU?

Every Day usually .Sometimes more on weekends ,or if have people round .120 tablets is around 3 months supply IMO ,unless you have a very small household!

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace

Mine goes on about once a month, if that Blush The tablets would likely outlive me Grin

@SchrodingersImmigrant

Also colander doesn't really get anything stuck to it if it's washed right there and then. But hey. We all do things differently depending what suits us.
I mean, you could say that about anything you put in the dishwasher. If you wash it up, it doesn’t need to go in the dishwasher!
mabelandivy · 01/10/2020 16:24

Ours goes on every evening, or every other evening dependent on the evening meal and how many saucepans etc are used.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/10/2020 16:25

my neighbor has put a new kitchen in and taken hers out.

One of my neighbours dd this too, because the dishwasher "took too long".. I told her - it can take as long as it likes as long as I don't have to do it.

anniegun · 01/10/2020 16:28

Every day here, maybe more. If you are cooking from scratch it is easy to fill. If you were eating ready meals and takeaways then I can see why you would use it less

TheMandalorian · 01/10/2020 16:32

Everyday here sometimes twice a day but we have a slimline one. Family of 4.

Covert20 · 01/10/2020 16:37

Twice a day here probably...certainly since lockdown struck!

stayathomer · 01/10/2020 16:37

Everyone I know says they either wouldn't have enough dishes to use their dishwasher daily or we only have (insert any number less than 4 because I have 4) so we couldn't justify the cost of using it daily. I never know what to say, it happens all the time!!

BarbaraofSeville · 01/10/2020 16:43

A revolutionary idea I know, but they could just buy more plates. They cost next to nothing in Ikea, Wilkos or the supermarket.

If people are so determined not to use a dishwasher, that's up to them.

We lived for years with our fridge in the dining room because there was only room for two appliances in our kitchen before we got an extension and the ones that needed to be connected to water and a drain won that battle.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 01/10/2020 16:44

I would NEVER hand wash stuff that I didn't have to. I hate washing up with a passion.

Member984815 · 01/10/2020 16:49

It's at least twice a day here

time4anothername · 01/10/2020 16:55

when I was living alone hardly cooking at home 120 tabs would have lasted me a couple of years so you need to look at the wording - average for a family - stingy but average of all people, not so much

RaisinsRuinEverything · 01/10/2020 17:01

I probably wouldn’t bother to count them! Are you generally happy with the dishwasher?

FippertyGibbett · 01/10/2020 17:08

Mine goes on twice a day.

BashfulClam · 01/10/2020 17:17

Ours get filled during the day and then run in the evening. Only two of us but we run it pretty much every day otherwise we’d run out of dishes and it smells if it’s left.

Lovely1a2b3c · 01/10/2020 17:29

4 adults- at least twice, usually 3x a day. When it's 2 adults then once a day.

@BarbaraofSeville

Thanks for the tip re the pans. I'll have a look at those once the kitchen is on delivery!

When I've had dishwashers in the past, they've really ruined the glasses in particular, they've gone all 'cloudy' (lots of light scratches I guess) and discoloured 'Tupperware'... and generally been more hassle than they're worth (dishes still wet etc) but I am SO fed up if dishes on the side all day (mugs etc) and of doing dishes. (I live alone so no one to pass this job onto!!)

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 01/10/2020 20:09

I didn’t count them - I’m not a total loon Grin They came in two bags of 60.

Ours is on 2-3 times a day, fully loaded.

DieSchottin93 · 01/10/2020 20:16

@DollyDoneMore

Typical day for us would be: 2 bowls, 2 plates and 2 spoons/knives for breakfast (DM doesn't tend to eat breakfast), 2 mugs and one glass tumbler. Non stick pans get hand washed. Measuring jug if used gets rinsed if dishwasher isn't full as it's only used for milk/water.

Lunch would be 3 plates/bowls as we all eat some form of homemade lunch. Chopping board gets washed by hand as it will be used again in the evening for chopping the ingredients for dinner. Add some cutlery (e.g. couple of knives used for spreading butter or other fillings), a couple more mugs. I usually drink tap water and will rinse out my cup to use throughout the afternoon and into dinner.

Dinner would be three plates, 3 sets of cutlery and 2-3 cups/glasses. Again, non stick pans done by hand. Cooking utensils go in. Chopping board washed by hand again unless dishwasher is ready to go on as it will be used again tomorrow. Add a couple of bowls and spoons from mine and DF's pudding, or at least two spoons if the pudding doesn't need to be decanted into a bowl. Roasting tins/trays etc get put in if there's space, otherwise they get washed in the sink. Gin/wine glasses get hand washed.

There may also be a couple more small plates, pieces of cutlery and Tupperware boxes depending on if I'm prepping lunch to take to work the next day/have dirty lunchbox from early shift to put in the dishwasher.

We have a separate tray at the top for our cutlery so not sure if this means we have more space in the bottom drawer for plates? Confused

HowFastIsTooFast · 01/10/2020 20:20

There was a dishwasher in my old flat and it probably went on once a week; usually on a Sunday night or Monday morning when I'd had meals at home all weekend and managed to get it 3/4 full. I lived on my own by the way.

Sorry for bringing the average down ConfusedBlush

cptartapp · 01/10/2020 20:28

Once a week here. It's quicker to wash up and there are four of us. Last thing I want to do after I've tidied up and sat down is go back in an hour and start unloading dishes.

Roowig2020 · 01/10/2020 20:44

2 adults, 1 dc and dog and we put it one once a day. Sometimes twice on a Sunday if we're having a roast with lots of extra pans etc.

inappropriateraspberry · 01/10/2020 20:47

My dishwasher ready to go in! Full after a day. I don't see how anyone can't fit everything in? Granted, we had no saucepans used tonight, but I could have fitted one in!
