AIBU?

AIBU to think that most people who have a dishwasher run it once a day?

We bought a new dishwasher recently. It was heavily promoted as coming with six months' supply of Fairy dishwasher tablets. The tablets arrived yesterday and there are 120 of them. That's not six months' supply in this household, as we run the dishwasher every day. AIBU to think that wouldn't be half a year's worth in most other households?

I rang the manufacturer to query it and was told that it was six months' worth based on "data and surveys". Hmmmm. I'm not going to take this to the highest court in the land, obviously, but it does seem a bit crap. AIBU?

@AlwaysLatte

Why don't people put pans in? I hate hand washing them!

Because over time it can ruin the non-stick coatings. I always Bung my stainless steel ones in but the Teflon ones I hand-wash to protect them.

Most days but not always everyday. 2 adults and 2 cats with a full size dishwasher.

We out our pans in as they are dishwasher safe but our old pans weren't so we had to wash those by hand. We did have a slim line dishwasher in old house and that went on pretty much daily too.

We have 8 plates / bowls etc and 12 of each knife / fork / spoons. Its mostly full of plastic tubs though - we sometimes batch cook so have plastic tubs galore.

When I had a dishwasher, once or twice a week. My parents use theirs maybe 4 times a year.

Probably twice a week here - just me although i'm home all day now so more mugs / lunch stuff going in it, but i do handwash pans and oven ware unless it's it's full enough with those to then go on. I've seen how friends run their dishwashers and they're on a couple of times a day because they're half empty of badly loaded!

I use mine daily now that the older kids have left home. When they were home it was twice a day.

@DieSchottin93

There's 3 adults in the house and we only put it on every 3 days or so Confused are people actually filling their dishwashers every day or just putting it on even when it's not full?

At least every day. 4 adults.

Full load each time. Do you not do “cooking” or do you eat out of newspapers?

Like rubixmania, I have an idea that dishwashers are bad for the nonstick pans, and my mum insists that wood needs washing quickly, or it holds the flavour of the last meal.

Once a day usually. More on weekends when I'm baking or doing some fancy dinner.

Depends how big the house is and the utensils you use. I cook from scratch everyday but there’s a lot that isn’t dishwasher safe - eg non-stick pans, wooden spoons, chopping boards and babyware gets handwashed. So it’s just dishes / cups / spoons left which, if the food is scraped, can wait every 2-3 days.

2 of us here (plus dogs!) both working from home, definitely run the dishwasher once a day. You have been ripped off!

We have a dishwasher that was included in the house sale. 120 would last us forever 🤣

Wooden spoons are fine in the dishwasher. I’ve never noticed any taste or staining. Don’t put chopping boards in though. They crack in the hotter water.

Every day, sometimes twice a day if I've made bread, pasties, cake or we've had a Sunday roast.

We are 5 adults but only use ours occasionally. We wash up by hand.

Every 2-3 days here: two adults and a toddler. Hand wash pots & pans, utensils, plastics, wine glasses, knives etc. We do have loads of crockery and cutlery though.

5 of us - I guess we’d average 3 times every two days.

I think if you're hand washing pots and pans, why bother having a dishwasher? The point of them is to save on the messy washing up!

1-2 times a day, 1 adult, 1 child,

I put saucepans in, grill pans ,airfryer base, frying pans, pyrex dishes, roasting tins, anything goes.

We cook from scratch, and usually have porridge, toast, and smoothies first thing, so I chuck the Nutribullet things in as well,

I use Morrisons value tablets, £2 for 40 I think, the contents always come out sparkling Star

Why do people wash by hand when they have a dishwasher? All the energy that went into the production of the dishwasher, then to not take advantage of it. Modern dishwashers apparently use 11-13l of water per cycle so are really not “wasteful” to use.

Do you do the same with washing your clothes?

Report
woodlandwalker · 01/10/2020 11:42

Mine is a narrow one and is on daily when it's just me - I put all saucepans etc. in it. It's on twice a day at weekends when there are four of us.

Once a day buy if I have baked possibly twice.

@LividLaughLovely

Getting the ick at how many people wash their pans by hand.

Why???

Sometimes the base of my frying pans goes funny. I buy different frying pans.

As for hand washing cutlery Envy not envy.

My non stick pans are Le Creuset so there is no way I would wash them in the dishwasher, over time the non stick starts to become less 'non' more 'stick' with continuous dishwasher washing. Le Creuset are way too expensive to keep replacing as you do. Also v bad for the environment to discard items that should last a long time so casually Hmm

I wash my pans in clean, warm soapy water. Why on earth would that make you get the 'ick' Confused

Because they wash absolutely everything else. The 2 pans I use to make dinner will just take too much space. So everything smaller and bowls from raw meat etc, goes in and I wash 2 pans. It's not going to kill me.
