To be angry my husband booked my flu shot?

399 replies

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:01

Been at my desk since 7am. I go to the toilet for 10 minutes this afternoon to find Dh has booked my flu shot for a time I didn't want

Phone rang, he picked up and it was surgery on behalf of NHS to book this year's flu shot for me.

He had the choice of 2 appointments 9am and 10.30am. He picked the second one. I always make medical appointments for first thing if I have a choice - he knows this!

If there was no choice in appointment I could accept that but there was!

Also annoyed because I am a high-risk patient (hence the flu shot) and now another 20 people will have been through the room I have to use before I even get there!!

He says it will be fine. He's so laidback all the time. He thought we could go for a walk afterwards if we went later... I am more interested in not catching COVID right now.

I am happy to hide out from COVID and flu but don't like having to go into situations like this.

Am I being unreasonable?

Could he really not knocked on the door & asked you?

Hollyhead · 30/09/2020 18:09

At our surgery they're doing them in the car park in a gazebo - you don't even go indoors.

It is a bit unreasonable to be stroppy but more unreasonable to call it a 'shot' unless you're American! What's wrong with 'jab' like everyone else says?!

ancientgran · 30/09/2020 18:09

I've had my jab, I can't fault the organisation, we were checked before we went in to make sure we had symptoms and temp taken, watched while we sanitised our hands, had masks on. Sent through and he was directed into one room and me in the next one, gave our names and all done in secons. Oh I forgot we were told to wear short sleeves and at the door reminded to take jackets off. They have converted windows into doors so we exited straight out to the car park.

I hope your's is as well organised.

MoonJelly · 30/09/2020 18:09

@Brogues

YABU all of those people before and after you will be vulnerable. What makes you the one that should get the first appointment?
9 a.m. isn't necessarily the first appointment - many surgeries start at 8 or even earlier.

Also OP isn't claiming some sort of special privilege. The surgery phoned and offered an appointment at 9 a.m., presumably if it wasn't available they wouldn't have offered it, and she is perfectly entitled to take them up on their offer. She's also entitled to be miffed that her husband didn't check with her before making appointments on her behalf.

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 18:09

@BluebellsGreenbells

The first batch goes to those shielding. Everyone in front of you should be taking precautions.

I think you’ll be fine

Thanks Smile

Yeah it's kind of ironic isn't it? I get it because I'm shielding and I'm freaking out because my health is such that I have a lot of worries about catching stuff especially during these times.

I needed a kick up the derrière though and I've had that. Now to apologise to Dh and make dinner...

"He thought we could go for a walk afterwards if we went later..."

Only just seen this.

So he chose a time to suit him??

Squiffany · 30/09/2020 18:13

YABU OP.

MoonJelly · 30/09/2020 18:13

@violetrosemummy

If he hadn't of picked up the phone they might not of called back for a while and you would of lost your slot until a later date. If you're high risk I think anytime would be better than non at all. How do you know there are going to be 20 people in the same room at you ?
Alternatively, he could have acted like any normal person who knew the person they wanted to speak to was in the house and asked them to hang on while he fetched OP. Or he could have at least asked them to hang on whilst he asked OP which appointment she would prefer.

It seems like that a bit though as he says I like walks too! This is where it's hard for me to work out why I was angry.

I think that YANBU at all.

Unless you shouted & swore at him I don't think that you need to apologise at all.

He could easily have asked you but decided not to.

Would you have asked him in the same circs?

It wouldn't occur to me not to ask tbh.

I grumbled a lot and asked him had he never noticed that I book appointments first thing.

@Bankingswitch This is so unusual, a poster genuinely asking AIBU! Responding well to responses! Good for you and Good luck with the flu jab, I am sure it will go fine.

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 18:21

@ItalianHat

But I don't think you're being unreasonable - I hate it when someone else makes a decision for me which isn't the choice I would have made. It's understandable re COVID and risk - I spend some of my time talking myself down from Coronoaphobia

PS. And your DH is wrong about COVID not being airborne. THere's loads of solid evidence about aerosols - by definition "airborne". His wrongness is quite dangerous to you, really.

I can't get him to believe in the airborne stuff. He says that masks will take care of it because a couple of guys in the F1 teams for it from home and it didn't spread through the teams at F1 because of their mask protocols.

Mind you the drivers on F1 are in a lot better shape healthwise than I am!

My husband has been incredibly helpful and solicitous of my health in the past though so I know he cares I just need to get him reading a bit more I think.

MitziK · 30/09/2020 18:26

Had mine at the weekend. Didn't even get to sit anywhere - everybody sanitised in the car park, walked in, stood at marker points for 30 seconds, then were called forward to the doorway, doctor came out, stabbed your arm and you were done, being directed out another door. Absolutely NO opportunity to catch anything.

Are you sure there will be lots of sitting in 'unsanitised' rooms? Especially as they have to sanitise between patients anyway and you might not be sitting at all?

Dunnowhat2do · 30/09/2020 18:32

Agree with PPs, you're being unreasonable. He was trying to help.

SunshineCake · 30/09/2020 18:36

This is only an issue if he booked the one that would have been your second choice if he did it to piss you off.
