To be angry my husband booked my flu shot?

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:01

Been at my desk since 7am. I go to the toilet for 10 minutes this afternoon to find Dh has booked my flu shot for a time I didn't want

Phone rang, he picked up and it was surgery on behalf of NHS to book this year's flu shot for me.

He had the choice of 2 appointments 9am and 10.30am. He picked the second one. I always make medical appointments for first thing if I have a choice - he knows this!

If there was no choice in appointment I could accept that but there was!

Also annoyed because I am a high-risk patient (hence the flu shot) and now another 20 people will have been through the room I have to use before I even get there!!

He says it will be fine. He's so laidback all the time. He thought we could go for a walk afterwards if we went later... I am more interested in not catching COVID right now.

I am happy to hide out from COVID and flu but don't like having to go into situations like this.

Am I being unreasonable?

At least you’re getting one.

I’m on a waiting list in a chemists, and I’ll have to pay for it.

There is talk of a shortage so they may run out before you have to go. My practice is making no promises until they see it delivered so hanging on here, our pharmacy is waiting for it too.

Mydogmylife · 30/09/2020 17:34

Ybu. I'm in Scotland too, obviously a deifferent area, as I got a letter not a phone call, so I had to take what I was given! I'm just glad I'm getting a jab, and the protocol is fierce - I think you'll be safe.

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:34

@alexdgr8

you need to calm down, and apologise to yr husband. i wish i could do that. cherish the people around you while you can. i think it is airborne, but you will be wearing a mask, and GPs are very careful. we had to queue outside on markers; like a living chess piece; i muttered to the others, i'm just a prawn in life's cocktail. that made them laugh. it eased the tension. each of us were called forward individually to have temperature scanned, mask in place check, questions re illness, and then allowed to proceed to nurse's room. all doors are kept open. maybe not for GP consultations ! one way system, out through the garden and past the knights, kings, bishops in the front yard. with a cheery wave to encourage them. you'll be ok. enjoy that walk. share your fears with him. and yr appreciation of him. good luck.
Hahaah that's a brilliant analogy Grin Hope I meet someone like you there!

Are you sure you are actually going in to GP office?

My GP has a drive through service (at a local racecourse-incredibly efficient) and one of my friend's experience at a different GP was that they got theirs in the GP's carpark from inside the car.

I'm sure they will take every precaution as they want it to be safe too!!

TheEC · 30/09/2020 17:36

YABU. He was trying to be helpful. No need to be angry. Surely I’d the instructions where to wait to be called it’s a good thing he picked up the phone and sorted it

Heyahun · 30/09/2020 17:36

It’s not a big deal really! At least you got a booking ! Im getting one this year as I’m pregnant - had to take a slot at 3.15 on a Wednesday - Inconvenient - I have to jump out of work in the middle of the day - but I’m happy to be booked in.

They’ll sanitise the place before you come in

Mellonsprite · 30/09/2020 17:37

Do you really have to be first ‘in’ everywhere so you don’t catch it? If so that must be exhausting and it’s going to be impossible.
I’m high risk and was shielding but you can’t expect this, as lots of people also were!

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:37

@Medianoche

If your GP is anything like mine, the procedure will be very Covid safe. I didn’t have to touch any surfaces, and only stood still for about 2 seconds while the jab went in. No waiting around, no sitting, doors all open, strict one way system, everyone in masks, didn’t even see another patient.
My surgery is fantastic and so are all the staff they really are - I know this is all my anxieties.

I used to be laid back before I had all my health problems😩

They are doing flu shots in the car park of the surgery here. You drive up at allotted time. Wind down your window and they give you the jab window. Literally a 'drive thru' service!

doctorhamster · 30/09/2020 17:40

I'd just be very grateful you can get one! I'm high risk too but I've been told by my GP surgery and my pharmacy that there are none available for under 65s.

I almost never leave the house except for walks. Probably why this appointment seems such a big deal.

Sounds like your aniexty is over the top here. There won’t have been 20 odd people in the room by 10.30am as they have to clean and change the PPE inbetween patients.

I think you are being over the top and feel sorry for your hubby. Maybe just say your sorry, you got overwhelmed and reacted badly. You appreciate him helping

FubsyRambler · 30/09/2020 17:41

At least he’s spared you the trauma of phoning back and being told
‘ 6.45am on February 14th is the earliest we’ve got now.’

Batshittery · 30/09/2020 17:41

@Mushypeasandchipstogo

I’m with you on this one. Spouses should not be able to discuss anything with your GP or surgery. It really annoyed me when my ex surgery used to phone up home and talk to my husband about my health. At one point they even gave the results of a blood test to my 14 year old son !
Giving an appointment time for flu jab is hardly discussing your health or personal matters. Hmm
ShaunaTheSheep · 30/09/2020 17:41

I love the idea of a drive-thru !

Shock that's awful! They must have realised there would be a huge uptake this year?

Will do SmileHe's a very understanding guy and has endless patience with me and my worries. Mind you, over the years I've had to forgive a few things too. He's probably got the worst of it though!

All of our local doctors surgeries seem to have been operating a really good system, only one patient in, waiting socially distanced outside, masks, hand sanitizer etc. Hopefully yours will be the same so it won't cause you any more anxiety.

Highfivemum · 30/09/2020 17:45

Very unreasonable.
He booked an appointment. It is only 1 1/2 hours difference. Say thank you and move on. Life is too short

HEYAhhhhhhhhh · 30/09/2020 17:45

YABU and overreacting. Your husband isn't a mind reader. At least you got an apt. Some of have to wait & I'm vulnerable too.

Standrewsschool · 30/09/2020 17:46

You’ll be in and out in seconds. Make sure you have a short sleeve top on to make it easier.

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:47

@TeflonTits

Perhaps you should ask your doctors clinic to prescribe a grip.
I would if I could! My life (and my Dh's) would be so much easier if I could get one Grin
