To be angry my husband booked my flu shot?

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:01

Been at my desk since 7am. I go to the toilet for 10 minutes this afternoon to find Dh has booked my flu shot for a time I didn't want

Phone rang, he picked up and it was surgery on behalf of NHS to book this year's flu shot for me.

He had the choice of 2 appointments 9am and 10.30am. He picked the second one. I always make medical appointments for first thing if I have a choice - he knows this!

If there was no choice in appointment I could accept that but there was!

Also annoyed because I am a high-risk patient (hence the flu shot) and now another 20 people will have been through the room I have to use before I even get there!!

He says it will be fine. He's so laidback all the time. He thought we could go for a walk afterwards if we went later... I am more interested in not catching COVID right now.

I am happy to hide out from COVID and flu but don't like having to go into situations like this.

Am I being unreasonable?

YABU. I know whenever anyone phones me with options I get flustered and often pick the wrong one, then when I have time to think about I think oh no why did I go for that option.

It's not the end of the world, and there's something really wrong if you genuinely feel 'angry' about it.

Serengetiqueen · 30/09/2020 18:38

I think that’s actually really thoughtful of him. Appointments are hard to get!

libra101 · 30/09/2020 18:40

We had our flu jabs a couple of weeks ago.
The Health Centre booked a local hall for them to be done. Each test a couple of minutes apart, arrive exactly on time so no waiting.
Both my OH and I were independently shown where to go, nurse did jab, out other door.
There was only one patient in room at a time.
All highly organised, we were in and out within a couple of minutes.
No problems.

PrincessCarolyn · 30/09/2020 18:40

YANBU.

He arranged the appointment to suit himself, not you. He didn't bother to consult you. It's selfish and inconsiderate. He should be apologising to you.

CeibaTree · 30/09/2020 18:43

Bloody hell OP, I know you've taken YABU with good grace, but in future ask yourself what terrible long term effects something like the later appointment will have on your life, and then stage a grovelling apology to your DH!

Chloemol · 30/09/2020 18:43

YABU. Stop being so precious. It’s a flu jab, and as all surgeries now follow Covid secure guidelines I don’t think there will be anissue with people going in ahead of you

Next year you phone the doctor and book it yourself

IceCreamSummer20 · 30/09/2020 18:44

As someone who has had two awful relationships.

The fact that you’ve come on mumsnet and your big gripe is that your DP booked w time you didn’t want, I’m guessing you’ve got a good relationship all in all! Don’t sweat the small stuff.

rosiethehen · 30/09/2020 18:45

YABU we can't even get flu jabs where we are.

RedHelenB · 30/09/2020 18:46

Yab very U. Your poor husband!

UntamedWisteria · 30/09/2020 18:46

YABVU about the flu shot

and also to post on here about something so trivial

KilljoysDutch · 30/09/2020 18:48

I had mine at Boots at the weekend (Asthmatic so not paid for) and they were really relaxed, I was the only person waiting for the pharmacist, we both wore masks, he had gloves on but it was all very calm and took about 10 minutes as we had a chat. Even had my 7 year old with me. It really hurt though and I'm usually not a wimp but I couldn't stand clothes touching my arm for a while great in the cold. Grin

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 30/09/2020 18:52

YABU and v OTT

saleorbouy · 30/09/2020 18:54

YABU - Poor hubby trying to help out and keep you safe. Do you usually display such gratitude, surely you can call yourself and amend the appointment to a more suitable time.

WINDOLENE · 30/09/2020 18:54

He was doing you a favour. Rebook the time. No big deal.

Doilooklikeatourist · 30/09/2020 18:54

@Hollyhead

At our surgery they're doing them in the car park in a gazebo - you don't even go indoors.

It is a bit unreasonable to be stroppy but more unreasonable to call it a 'shot' unless you're American! What's wrong with 'jab' like everyone else says?!

Mines going to be in the car park too ! No sitting down , and if it's raining .... Bring an umbrella !
UnshakenNeedsStirring · 30/09/2020 19:11

Wow, what a terrible overreaction. Are you always this sensitive? If you dont like it just book another one. Id say you are lucky to have a husband who cares and you managed to get an appointment!

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 19:16

Well he's just said the BMJ, NHS and WHO don't believe it's airborne (aerosol) and I should be fine with the mask. I am feeling better about it now and have apologised profusely!

I need to be braver about my health - I've lost a lot of confidence since getting this disease and now COVID is just heightening that.

Well done for taking your 'YABU' like an absolute champ OP

FWIW I do think you're being unreasonable, but I also think someone with serious health conditions should be forgiven for the anxiety surrounding their health at the minute Flowers

I am sure you are right.

Yes, next year if COVID is over I will go back to booking myself as usual.

OP posts:
Happygogoat · 30/09/2020 19:28

YABU he was only trying to help and if you really think that 20 people using a survey before you impacts you because you're vulnerable then don't even bother with the shot because presumably you won't leave your living room until April anyway.

They're only doing them for vulnerable people, why should you be first?

If he didn't answer the phone at all then you may have only been offered later slots altogether! Give him a break

MulticolourMophead · 30/09/2020 19:32

My employers are sorting out a voucher thingy so that we can book for a jab in a pharmacy. I guess it's so the pharmacy gets paid by my employer (public sector). I live some distance from the office, so it'll be easier than going into work on the day set aside for staff to have jabs. Just hope there'll be some appointments by the time I get the voucher.

BiznessKat · 30/09/2020 19:32

I think he did you a favour. Even if you are high risk there’s a chance there won’t be enough flu vaccine to go round, the pharmacies have all stopped selling the jabs. I actually booked my husbands via a pharmacy as his initial appt was cancelled but I was able to get him a different cancellation slot. He was v grateful!

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 19:32

Aaaw thanks. Once my lung function dipped below 60%. Horrible feeling so breathless. That itself crestes much anxiety.

I think I'll get into CBT to help my thought processes. In a way I think my DH quite likes me leaning on him, but I miss my old independent free-spirited self. I shouldn't let my disease take everything from me Smile
