To be angry my husband booked my flu shot?

399 replies

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:01

Been at my desk since 7am. I go to the toilet for 10 minutes this afternoon to find Dh has booked my flu shot for a time I didn't want

Phone rang, he picked up and it was surgery on behalf of NHS to book this year's flu shot for me.

He had the choice of 2 appointments 9am and 10.30am. He picked the second one. I always make medical appointments for first thing if I have a choice - he knows this!

If there was no choice in appointment I could accept that but there was!

Also annoyed because I am a high-risk patient (hence the flu shot) and now another 20 people will have been through the room I have to use before I even get there!!

He says it will be fine. He's so laidback all the time. He thought we could go for a walk afterwards if we went later... I am more interested in not catching COVID right now.

I am happy to hide out from COVID and flu but don't like having to go into situations like this.

Am I being unreasonable?

Ours aren't even being held in the gps surgery this year, it's being done in the church hall. One at a time with booked appointments times. No one with covid should have entered the building if they thought they had symptoms

And yes that was major patient confidentiality breach! What if they had rang about an appointment you didn't want him to know about and they'd spouted it down the phone 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm clinically high risk due to asthma but I still work in a supermarket 🤷🏼‍♀️ we've had one incident of covid in 7 months and that only affected one staff member but it took about ten away to isolate just as a pre caution and I was not one of those people

@cuparfull

YABVVU given I asked at Boots yesterday and they are booking two weeks in advance. Our GP's are starting innocs in two weeks aswell. Take the appointment and be grateful, everyone has soooo much on their minds atm its a wonder any of us are functioning Sad so be gentle with OH.
I have apologised and been forgiven.

If there's one thing my DH doesn't do it's worry. So laidback he's horizontal. Could tell a tale or two about that to get sympathy Grin but it's not relevant here.

I have no secrets from my DH - I've told surgery before not to worry about this with me.

THEDEACON · 01/10/2020 19:50

I am highrisk too and you are completely and utterly being unreasonable

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 19:52

@mumsmaur

I like others here have said here that to be honest it does seem that your other half did the best for you, as if he had asked for a call back it may have given you the possible risk of delaying this and that would not benefit you. I have a husband that is very ill and unable to deal with many matters such as this, so be glad where you are and love what's yours whilst you have it.
Wise words! I do agree with you.

I just thought husbands might be aware of a wife's preferences (like I always make sure he gets his favourite toilet paper Grin), but you're right it's no biggie.

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 19:55

I can't get over this OTT ungrateful reaction.

My husband and I have - peace reigns in our home once again Grin

beth2702 · 01/10/2020 19:59

What a thoughtful, caring man.

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:00

@starlight13

You are going to absolute smash your immune system if you keep having these jabs. Your body won't have the ability to fight of anything. Stop being angry at your husband and wake up to your own problem that you're a hypochondriac. Get on out there, be sensible and get on with life.
Flu jabs didn't cause my problem. My immune system went haywire in the first place causing my AI disease and that's why I'm sick now Grin never needed a doctor until later in life and I have been in trouble at the doc's several times for not bothering them when I should have. Certainly not a hypochondriac!

He is really 😍
hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:01

@Lisa82sim

I feel sorry for your husband. You sound abit entitled and highly strung to think you should be the first through the door... You're not the only person who's high risk.
I was worried about enclosed spaces and airborne stuff - I was being very silly, yes!
yummumto3girls · 01/10/2020 20:02

Oh dear, you’re hard work!

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:03

@Jeeperscreepers69

Your moaning its unattractive. Stop. Go for that walk afterwards
Moaning IS unattractive, I agree. I need to stop worrying too. Working on that!
hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:06

@Cockadoodledooo

So actually *@Bankingswitch*, if your dh had just said "they called and they've booked you in for 10:30" that would have been OK as the only available appointment, but because the 9 was offered and he didn't pick it you're miffed with him?

It's a done deal, you're getting the jab and your surgery will follow covid safe procedures. You'll be grand. But if you're not already being treated for your anxiety it's definitely worth a call to the GP.

Thanks yes I thought he knew my preferences - I was wrong. I am cool about it now.

Definitely going to get help for anxiety. Going to do it myself online - I don't want to bother the NHS with this. I think it's manageable. Some people have really debilitating anxiety and I don't want to take resources from them.

Thank you for your kind words Smile

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:08

@myblackboots

I’d be glad he booked it for me, especially as not that much time difference. My DH booked mine for me and I’m grateful he did before supply issues arose. You sound quite stressed - perhaps this was the ‘waffer-thin mint’ that signalled Covid stress overload.
I think you're right on the money there Grin love that sketch!
hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:09

@peonyblossom

I think you're way overreacting! I was in the chemist the other day picking up a prescription and they asked me if I'd booked one. Said no, they advised I book as they expected to be busy so I booked for me and DH.

Got home, told him, he wasn't cross... he said thank you!

Normal reaction?!

Glad you and your DH got sorted.

I would like to be normal too - maybe one day Grin

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:11

@DueNumberTwo

This!!! Calm down

Op calmed down sometime around yesterday dinner time Grin

@Tomorrowillbeachicken

The aren’t most ppl getting flu jab high risk?
Yes.
hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:14

@proudbrows

Well done for taking it on the chin OP! You wanted to know if you were being unreasonable, almost everyone said yes and you accepted it with good grace. Not very often that happens! Good luck with the appointment 😊
Thanks for your good wishes Grin
WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner · 01/10/2020 20:17

I’m glad you’ve sorted things. If you’re feeling the underlying issue is stress - I did the online course - Beating the Blues - referred by my GP which helped.

I did end up having to take Citalopram for depression (children with chronic illness leading to chronic stress for me), but I’m now on the lower dose of 10mg which is recommended for anxiety. It does help - you’d be better asking your GP for advice and treatment- don’t feel your taking resources away from others. I was probably suffering from depression/ anxiety for a few years before getting the help.

I’m coping a lot better now and there was pretty minimal input from the GP - I just needed the advice/ online course and ongoing prescriptions. I realise some may be anti meds - but they have helped me.

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:17

@onedogatoddlerandababy

Count yourself lucky, I get a free one each year and am usually given it before the kids get their live one. Mine is currently scheduled for a fortnight after the kids get theirs. Lots of slots at present but only for over 65s.
That's a nightmare for you - sorry to hear that.

I realise how lucky I am thanks to this thread. A lot of good came out of this and I am very grateful.

I really hope you and your family stay safe this winter 🌸

MeteorMeatier · 01/10/2020 20:17

YABU and OTT. He probably thought the later apt would suit you better so you don’t have to rush first thing. If you are high risk, wear PPE, disinfect. Don’t take your frustration out on DH

That is really interesting - thanks for that valuable information.

I think I do have some depression in there too, especially in winter I get SAD syndrome. Even lost appetite and weight (I shouldn't lose more than I have) and believe me I love my food!

I will look into that - lots of things going on with me - perfect storm I think!

KindredSpirit1 · 01/10/2020 20:22

I’m sorry but you are being unreasonable. Flu jab appointments are like gold dust at the moment and seriously why didn’t you phone and rearrange? Really you need to apologise to your husband and quite frankly appreciate the kind gesture.

UglyBoy19 · 01/10/2020 20:24

She’s anxious about her jab - stop trolling her.
Flu jabs are like gold dust in my area so whatever you do don’t cancel the appt. he’s made for you. Good luck.

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 20:24

@BlokeTarget

What a horrible husband you have booking your flu shot for you. Very uncaring.

LTB

I'll give him one more chance, but he's on thin ice now...😂
