To be angry my husband booked my flu shot?

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:01

Been at my desk since 7am. I go to the toilet for 10 minutes this afternoon to find Dh has booked my flu shot for a time I didn't want

Phone rang, he picked up and it was surgery on behalf of NHS to book this year's flu shot for me.

He had the choice of 2 appointments 9am and 10.30am. He picked the second one. I always make medical appointments for first thing if I have a choice - he knows this!

If there was no choice in appointment I could accept that but there was!

Also annoyed because I am a high-risk patient (hence the flu shot) and now another 20 people will have been through the room I have to use before I even get there!!

He says it will be fine. He's so laidback all the time. He thought we could go for a walk afterwards if we went later... I am more interested in not catching COVID right now.

I am happy to hide out from COVID and flu but don't like having to go into situations like this.

Am I being unreasonable?

Yes YABVU

I am at risk and have one every year, this year however I’ve been told that all the vaccines are currently reserved for over 65s. That means I can’t have one.

Chalkitup · 01/10/2020 18:37

Your poor husband

momtoboys · 01/10/2020 18:40

Bankingswitch - you are amazing! This thread has been a lot of fun because you didn't take offense and flounce! Thanks for being so good natured.

Pinkfluff76 · 01/10/2020 18:45

You shouldn’t be getting a flu shot. You should be taking care of your health by eating the right things and taking vitamin D.

Suebreo · 01/10/2020 18:49

Yes u are being ridiculous

thistle52 · 01/10/2020 18:55

Jesus. He’s just trying his best. You are unreasonable and ott.

janj2301 · 01/10/2020 18:56

Over 65 or in one of the special categories just go to a chemist. I work in a GPs and we keep running out of shots, this year the over 65 have a different injection to the under 65 very difficult to judge how many to order

clarehhh · 01/10/2020 19:02

Lots of places doing them in car park now, so you may not even be inside

BinkyBoinky · 01/10/2020 19:06

OP you are so lovely xxx when I see aibu posts most people are on the defensive.
I have super bad anxiety and didn’t leave the house for 5 months, no under lying conditions and “just” medication controlled anxiety. I would have totally reacted like you before medication!!! Xx

Vodkaskirts · 01/10/2020 19:12

Book it private and choose your own 1st thing app.

If you work and can afford it dont take NHS resources if you dont have to.

I went on Boots last Friday couldnt get app.

Friday night had another look found Patientaccess.com and booked for there. Had mine on Monnday it was only 11 quid. Hadnt realised because it was a late night Chemist they were open on Sunday as well.

The guy who did it said they had loads of walk -ins for it

Get there 1st thing jobs a good un

eaglejulesk · 01/10/2020 19:18

Really I don't know why the surgeries don't just erect a marquee and get us through quickly in the open air, standing up, sleeves rolled up just like when we were Army kids having 6 monthly Cholera jabs.

In NZ they had drive through flu shot clinics, so you didn't need to get out of the car. I don't drive, so went to the surgery - not inside, to the back yard - and the nurse came outside to administer the shot.

Cockadoodledooo · 01/10/2020 19:18

So actually @Bankingswitch, if your dh had just said "they called and they've booked you in for 10:30" that would have been OK as the only available appointment, but because the 9 was offered and he didn't pick it you're miffed with him?

It's a done deal, you're getting the jab and your surgery will follow covid safe procedures. You'll be grand. But if you're not already being treated for your anxiety it's definitely worth a call to the GP.

Cockadoodledooo · 01/10/2020 19:22

@eaglejulesk our surgery certainly has the tents up outside but I'm not sure if that's for the actual vaccs or just queuing.

Cockadoodledooo · 01/10/2020 19:24

Ah that' should have been addressed to @cuparfull

Sorry to hear about your anxiety, you poor thing, that's awful! Thanks
peonyblossom · 01/10/2020 19:28

I think you're way overreacting! I was in the chemist the other day picking up a prescription and they asked me if I'd booked one. Said no, they advised I book as they expected to be busy so I booked for me and DH.

Got home, told him, he wasn't cross... he said thank you!

Normal reaction?!

hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 19:28

Doctor's orders Grin need it every year since my disease began. Didn't want to start it but a stern talking to from a consultant about the danger I'd be in got me on board.
DueNumberTwo · 01/10/2020 19:30

Oh ffs. You do realise that when the nhs offer you a flu vaccination it's usually because you have a medical condition that makes you vulnerable. Why would you assume 'eating the right things' can cure everyone's medical conditions.

I wonder if 'eating the right things' will mean my husband doesn't have to take steroids for his asthma anymore Hmm

cuparfull · 01/10/2020 19:31

@Crazyunicornlady

Yes YABVU

Oh dear but I believed this year the remit is for all over 50's to have a flu jab...is that wrong? Have you checked with any Chemists? Its reported some are doing them for iro £12.
Chuffaluffa · 01/10/2020 19:32

Yes you are, I would love to have a partner thoughtful enough to do this for me.

1969angep · 01/10/2020 19:39

Blimey you sound really ungrateful. Just change it ffs

BlokeTarget · 01/10/2020 19:41

What a horrible husband you have booking your flu shot for you. Very uncaring.

LOL! It's me Smile forgot to change my name! Glad it is enjoyable - I am rather enjoying it myself haha!
hunneebunnee · 01/10/2020 19:45

@Crumpetsforthequeen

Yes yadbu, stop being so dramatic, I'm high risk too but dont make a song and dance about it, don't like the time? just call the surgery and change it, it's not the end of the world
I am now fine with the time and wouldn't dream of bothering the surgery with this.

My main anxiety was the danger of catching COVID - imagination running away with me and all that. Thought timing of appointment may be relevant but seems that it's not.

Now been reassured by the good people of AIBU.

All is wellSmile
