Biden, but as the least worst option. It is truly a woeful choice, but not a difficult one. Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is not fit for public office.

One wants to roll back women’s reproductive rights, the other wants to provide a loophole so that predators and perps can infiltrate women’s prisons and sports.
Tough choice.

Biden, without a question or hesitating.

Trump just told a White supremacy group to "stand by"

This is not even a question for me. Biden. As a pp said, I'd vote for a dog turd before I'd vote for Trump.

All I can think is there are 300 million people in the USA and these two are the best that there are???

This pretty much sums it up for me. I've tried watching the debate three times already (including at 2am this morning). It's terrible. I am so angry with the Democratic Party that Biden is the best they can find. (I felt similar when we had Corbyn and Johnson leading the two main parties here).

I would vote for Biden without a doubt however, as Trump is truly dangerous and devoid of any qualities a leader needs.

It is a puzzle though, how would you debate Trump, a person who will not debate? How would Obama have fared?

@borntobequiet

Really puzzled that anyone can say that both are equally bad. This is the sort of disingenuous nonsense that encouraged people to vote for a criminal narcissistic liar and failed businessman over a talented and experienced female politician (albeit with some pretty standard flaws as far as US politicians go) last time round.
Trump is clearly deranged.

THIS! Honestly, 4 years ago I got so bloody tired of the "well, she's as bad as him" bullshit and it's as tedious and ridiculous now. Of course Biden isn't perfect but broadly speaking we know he has at least some kind of moral compass, significant political experience etc etc etc. I don't feel I know enough about this policies to comment on those specifically (and I do think that's a weakness in his campaign - whipping up anti-trump sentiment is a bit pointless. Either your'e already in that camp or you're not. He needs to be attracting all those people who don't actually care about the quality of their politician but just what they can have done for them).

And Biden might uphold reproductive rights but he's planning on trashing women's rights in total which will affect women negatively in every way.

I'm as GC as the next woman (on MN) and am on the verge of losing my best friend of nearly 30 years because she's all "TWAW" and is actually angry at me because I don't agree. But right now, I'm not going to suggest that this is the single hill on which I will die. We know that politicians can be persuaded and have their minds changed as they actually review materials and input. And notwithstanding the social media echo chamber we're all in, right now this isn't affecting the vast majority of women. I don't want us to get complacent, but the massive rise of white supremacy, incel, etc etc are huge concerns. The dialling back of women's reproductive rights - which affects a lot of women, right now - as well as the lack of decent benefits for mothers in the US are all things we KNOW Trump will make worse. TWAW is still in progress.

What were the Democrats thinking ???
Was Biden the best they could do ?
Really ? Shock

Why couldn't they change the system ?
It seems very unfair.
Last time Hilary Clinton ( can't stand the woman - remember her Tammy Wynette quote and then she did exactly that ) won the popular vote but didn't get elected because of the electoral colleges ( whatever all that means ).
Hilary was robbed.
And I 'm somebody who doesn't like her.

The debate was awful because Trump made it awful. That was his strategy. Causing havoc is the only strategy he has for anything.

The misogynists won't elect a woman.

The ones who think they aren't misogynist, actually are because they judge women politicians on entirely different standards.

The rest have reluctantly accepted that the others won't elect a woman and are more interested in winning at this point than anything else.

Trump, because we could only get four more years of him, whereas there could be eight of Biden.

But he says he's going to change that. And nothing would surprise me.

I dont understand the system that allows its leader to be elected when they have never been a senator or congressman.

Also agree that I really don't understand the US political system if that's the best two people they can come up with out of 330 million or whatever people.

@IamTomHanks

but I do think that there's not as much between them in their attitudes to women as I would wish there to be.

Except that one will uphold women's reproductive rights and the other won't.

No brainer in my opinion.

At least one doesn't perv over his own daughter

We had the same awful choices here, why do we keep having to vote for the least worse option, instead of being able to choose the better candidate?

I do agree with this and I have said a couple of times on the thread already that if I were in the USA I would be voting for Biden. I was just pointing out that I think it's naïve to see him as the great saviour of women's rights.

Watched it too. I couldn't believe the drivel I was watching from a acting president of the "free world" and potential one. America is one big joke these days.

Neither would get my vote. Dreadful performance from Biden and don't even get me started on Trump. Wallace could have done a better job too. The whole thing was one big mess.

Perhaps when a family is aiming for the top, you pick your first born or the most appropriate child and use the others as support tools and this may have left a vacuum. The GCs are too young. Right now, therefore the only option is perhaps still Biden senior. JFK's older brother was "supposed" to be President but he died (in WWII I think) so JFK was substitute, when JFK died little brother Robert was promoted but unfortunately he was assassinated. It seems the vacuum can be filled if there is a suitable candidate.

On the original question I'd vote for one of the animals in our local zoo rather than Trump but is Biden really the best the Democrats can do?

To my mind a system is unfair if a person ( in a truly democratic system, not a questionable election system like pseudo democracy but actually dictatorship ) wins the popular vote but doesn't get elected because of the collegiate vote.

The fact that these are the 2 candidates the poor voters have to choose from highlights everything that is wrong with the American election system. How is it that with such a huge population, the only people who ever are in the running either have to have obscene wealth, or have to have access to absurd amounts of funding to be able to fund the election campaign? It completes rules 'normal' folk out of the running - and frankly, America could really do with some 'normal' down-to-earth sensible leaders!
