Proudboomer, the figures are from a database that was assembled by researchers at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a centrist thinktank, if you want to look it up.

Will there be a few agitators in the protests despite the majority exercising their democratic right to peacefully protest? I imagine there will be a few, but there are not highly organised white supremacy groups wandering around with assault rifles threatening violence and intimidation. And most importantly there are no politicians tacitly supporting them as Trump is and defending their actions. Trump all but signalled to these white supremacy groups to be on stand by!

@HelloToMyKitty

I’m not voting (never do, absentee ballots aren’t usually counted anyway unless it’s close) but basically my entire extended family is voting Trump, just like last time.

Have to admit I totally understand why they would. Great economy before COVID and they were doing better economically as mostly blue-collar workers.

Have to say my stock portfolio did great during the past few years and have mostly recovered from that big slide earlier this year too 🤷‍♀️

Well, you REALLY don't know what you are talking about as absentee votes ARE counted !! That is a fallacy that they are not counted. I am glad you think this political race is all about your stock portfolio. Luckily, there are many who think otherwise and I hope that we have someone I don't have to be embarrassed about elected aka Biden.
Proudboomer · 01/10/2020 19:24

America needs congress term limits to get rid of all these old men and women who have dominated American politics for years.
America needs change and putting term limits in place would alllow for new younger blood.

ddl1 · 01/10/2020 19:29

To the British people saying "poor Americans" have you forgotten who is our PM?

No I haven't. And he is lazy, incompetent and dishonest, bad at any time and especially in a major crisis; but he is NOT a fascist. I would vote for him if the alternative was Trump. And that's saying a lot, coming from me!

TG31 · 01/10/2020 19:30

I just can't see how ANYONE WITH A BRAIN could even REMOTELY consider voting for trump, let alone ACTUALLY voting for him.

But there is black militia groups who are organising and have weapons. The NFAC marching in Kentucky in full black militia dress with assault rifles.

Who is calling them out.?
Politicians on both sides need to say enough is enough but they don’t Trump fans the flames and Biden stays silent unless it is a right wing group. Neither is acceptable.

DreamTheMoors · 01/10/2020 19:36

@Proudboomer

The KKK was a Democratic Party formed organisation which at its height in the 1920s had 4 million members. The figures of membership have been in sharp decline for years now and since 2016 has been reduced from 130 to 51klan groups.( figures given by the southern poverty law centre in 2019)

So stop with your kkk fear mongering.
The present months of violence in Seattle and Portland are not the kkk but The progressive left wing under the banner of BLM.

@Proudboomer

You’re right. It’s not the KKK. It’s the Proud Boys & the Boogaloo Bois, both hate groups, the former being designated as such by the SPLC. Ask FBI director McCabe.
Turn off Fox News and OAN and when you “state facts”, make sure they are facts.

Danja2010 · 01/10/2020 19:40

@IamTomHanks

I honestly don't understand how people can say that Biden is equally has bad as Trump. Stop drinking the right wing Kool-Aid. Seriously WTF has happened to Mumsnet?
I honestly don't think enough people are informed enough about Biden to make the statements I have seen here. He was definitely not my first choice but proudly voted for him. Biden has suffered with a stammer his whole life and he has really risen above that hindrance. There was an interesting article about triggers that make a stammer worse. Guess what : Trump used them all in the debate to put Biden in a bad light by trying to trigger his stammer. I think Biden did his best with a bully as his opponent and an inept moderator who was not able to hold Trump in check.
Silverstar20 · 01/10/2020 19:48

I agree that Boden is far too old (I am about the same age as him!) but he is far better than Trump, who is dangerous. My son lives in California and he is really worried about what might happen if Trump is reelected. Yes, Elizabeth Warren would have been a better President but she would not have been elected, for pretty much the same reasons as Hillary was not elected.

Danja2010 · 01/10/2020 19:49

@Tiredwiththeshits

On the basis alone that trump is fighting the boys clubs at the top of society, ratting out the paedophiles and gunning for the sex trafficked children. Trump.
OH NO ! A crazy QANON supporter ranting on mumsnet. That is frightening !
Silverstar20 · 01/10/2020 19:50

Biden! Hate predictive texting!

Proudboomer · 01/10/2020 19:51

I don’t watch any tv to watch fox and I have never heard of OAN.

The only American I listen to regularly who I like is Joe rogan and I have watched some Tim pool but I prefer rogan.
I avoid main stream media in both the uk and USA as I am fed up woke politics.

Redcrayons · 01/10/2020 19:54

I can’t think of anything Biden could do, that would make me not vote for him. It wasn’t a convincing victory for him, but he ain’t trump.

Ratbum · 01/10/2020 20:00

I'd vote for Biden, but not because he's Biden, he's simply "Not Trump".

Hearwego · 01/10/2020 20:01

There was no gentlemanly conduct in this debate. We meant nothing about their policies, just two old men shouting at each other.
Atleast in the days of Ronald Reagan , the Bush’s and Obama we saw presidents act atleast like gentlemen and with diplomacy and humanity.
Ronald Reagan was a great communicator, even if you didn’t agree with his policies , he atleast came across as sincere and spoke well.
Complete shit show now.

alreadytaken · 01/10/2020 20:01

Dont know enough about American politics to really make a choice - but Trump is responsible for many of the Covid deaths in America so I'd find it hard to vote for him on those grounds. He's been a major source of misinformation int.nyt.com/data/documenttools/evanega-et-al-coronavirus-misinformation-submitted-07-23-20-1/080839ac0c22bca8/full.pdf

Ansjovis · 01/10/2020 20:05

I read an article once about the stages of genocide, each one with examples from Trump's presidency to show the path that is being followed in the US at the moment.

Biden may be a lot of things but I can't see how he'd end up anywhere near as bad as that. Most of the Americans I know are republican leaning but not one of them has voted for trump or will do as they understand that he is most certainly not an example of a good or even acceptable Christian! Some people, however, are so blinkered they'd probably vote for a goat if someone told them it was a republican.

ListeningQuietly · 01/10/2020 20:16

I’m not voting (never do, absentee ballots aren’t usually counted anyway unless it’s close)
That may be the case in Putin's country
but it is NOT the case in the USA

Harvestsquirrel1 · 01/10/2020 20:21

I live in the USA. I am embarrassed. These candidates do not reflect us Americans; they are 2 bumbling old fools fighting over who gets to be president. I want to move away from here.

DreamTheMoors · 01/10/2020 20:38

YogiBearcub · 01/10/2020 21:25

We've already seen how bad Trump is for 4 years. Cannot possibly be any worse with Biden. Surprised this is even a question people are asking themselves! I'd rather vote for a well advised monkey than Trump.

Ravenesque · 01/10/2020 21:34

I'd vote for Biden in a heartbeat. I'm not a real fan of him but anyone other than Trump has to be the way to go. I quite like Kamala Harris and there's a possibility that she'd become president before the next election given Biden's age.

All of that said I think the Democrats are utter idiots and there was a chance to go with a candidate who was actually progressive and not more of the same neo-liberal broken bullshit but that's a whole other story.

I am gobsmacked that 9% of the total number who've voted YABU/YANBU have gone for Trump. My brain will not compute.

ddl1 · 01/10/2020 22:03

At the time when the KKK was founded, the Democrats were to a large extent the right-wing Confederate-sympathizing party, and the Republicans a more liberal party. The parties have largely reversed roles since then.

And not all white supremacist organizations are the KKK. The KKK is probably the most important historically, but huge numbers of such organizations exist, and, as in the UK, constantly split and merge. The Proud Boys seem to be one of the most prominent ones in America currently. Then there are the various 'keyboard warrior' groups and Internet hate-sites, of which the oldest and best-known is probably Stormfront.

HelloToMyKitty · 01/10/2020 22:12

Well, you REALLY don't know what you are talking about as absentee votes ARE counted

Obviously I am overseas so in my home state, these types of ballots are only counted if it’s really close. Absentee ballots that originate from local addrssses are absolutely counted.

Some conspiracy theorists here think I’m trying to spread disinfo 😂

HelloToMyKitty · 01/10/2020 22:17

I am glad you think this political race is all about your stock portfolio

And why shouldn’t this be a consideration for me? I don’t want higher capital gains taxes nor a wealth tax so would vote against anyone proposing these. The IRS takes enough as it is, though I haven’t lived in the US for years.

Biden (to my knowledge) hasn’t suggested this so not going to vote against him (but won’t vote for him either).
