What do we reckon?

My one silver lining is Johnson hates being 'King of the World'Grin

Looks exhausted
Arse ripped every week at PMQ's
Everything that could go wrong goes wrong

All he touches turns to shit

Zeebeezee · 01/10/2020 18:26

Who is the next choice if Doris decides to exit stage left for health reasons or whatever.

Sunak is not keen, he doesn't need the moolah. Gove is probably first up. What a great person he is! LOL.

Gove is next without a doubt. It'll be like swapping a pile of dog shit for a pile of cat shit; it still stinks and you still want it gone.

FudgeBrownie2019

I'd nearly prefer the idiot Doris rather than Gove. There is something of the night about him.

But we are powerless now. The Tories in Government will decide. Oh dear.

VinylDetective · 01/10/2020 19:24

My only comfort if it’s Gove is that the PLP will probably make it conditional on him firing Cummings. Although hopefully he’s so tainted by association with Johnson that they’re going to want someone completely new.

CokeEnStock · 01/10/2020 19:30

"Even with brexit (which isn't looking as bad as the projections envisioned), there will be no snap election"

You what now?

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 01/10/2020 20:05

Peregrina and who is opposing the curbs it’s mainly the right of parliament

Our lockdown is far less restrictive than Italy, France and Spain and many many other countries some who really are ruled as police states should the government only take on expert scientific advice we would have much stricter restrictions

I really don’t think the current situation means that the Tory party has suddenly changed core policies to now become a supporter of a police state (which we are far from) it goes against the very core of Tory beliefs

You do know we are still in a transition period right? The effects have not hit us yet.

Yes, I am well aware, so you don't need to resort to a meme, that still doesn't mean there will be a snap election, you trying to nitpick doesnt make my comment ridiculous but highlights that your initial op lacks any form of critical thinking.

You may need to go back to twitter/independant/guardian comment pieces to actual form an argument though as you clearly have none yourself.

Really? the advice to dobb in your neighbours is akin to E.Germany, then there is the £10,000 fines, with imprisonment if you can't pay..... lock up teenagers in 'halls, with padlocked fire escapes & security guards

meanwhile the elite who break the rules get a free pass.

flashbac · 01/10/2020 21:59

@Justanotherlurker

I was referring to your assertion that Brexit is not looking as bad as projected, not about the election point. Ad hominem attacks show you have no valid rebuttal.

Come back in February and tell me Brexit is not as bad as predicted.

OP posts:
longwayoff · 01/10/2020 22:38

Don't worry folks, justanotherlurker has resurfaced to remind us all to check our critical thinking skills. What a relief. So let's focus our thoughts. Gosh, that's made absolutely everything so much better. Boris is better than Churchill and Brexit will have a full unicorn delivery, more than enough to go round, in January. Kool Aid.

Peregrina · 01/10/2020 22:54

And as for saying that our lockdowns are not as bad as France - I have just come back from there, and can tell you that it some places here they are much more severe.

But I was talking about the current Tory party - the one which kicked out the moderate thoughtful Tories, with integrity, like Dominic Grieve, for the rabble who support Johnson.

At least that post wasn’t the usual word salad. However, it was otherwise entirely predictable - only one person round here capable of independent thought apparently.
longwayoff · 02/10/2020 13:08

Oh, @VinylDetective, I have a recurring nightmare in which lurker reveals herself as Priti Patel. Such clarity of vision, and determination to be heard, shared by both.

Graphista · 02/10/2020 15:41

dgrosetti - I agree I think he’ll zip off to America

I don’t see a u-turn on Brexit happening unfortunately - at least not officially

Again “rebranding” is a possibility though, tories - well actually all politicians - have a knack of redefining basic entities turning them into the opposite of what the definition suggests!

multi-millionaires are cushioned from the effects of their bad decisions. also very true. They might be vilified in the media...but they can simply not buy papers, not watch news and bury their heads in the sand! Surround themselves with sycophants and fool themselves everyone loves them!

ListeningQuietly I’m sure you’re right re asset stripping etc too

jasjas1973 I agree I don’t see them voting

That's not Gove. He isn't winning an election. I'm not saying he won't spend any time at all as PM, but there is no way they're going to want to fight a GE with him at the helm if it can be avoided.

I’d agree with that

1997 was Labours time yea, I’m not sure that’s true given so many of us didn’t and never will consider “new labour” an actual labour govt. at best they were centrist certainly not left wing - demonstrates perfectly actually my point about definitions and names! Labour in name only in mine and many others opinions

Which probably explains Chris Grayling.

NOTHING explains Chris grayling - though he’s a great example of the utter fallacy which is “tories are better with the economy” - his mistakes alone have cost billions!

Priti will do well are you serious? Based on what?! She’s been PROVEN to be corrupt, avaricious and unburdened by even the presence of a conscience!

Her voting record shows her to be homophobic, disablist (admittedly many tories would see these as pluses), but they’re also pragmatic and would understand surely that someone as hard line and hard right as her won’t appeal widely to voters which they need.

Now that and enriching their cronies is all they stand for. I’m hoping this will lead to their downfall - as it was last time - “cash for questions” anyone?

Thatchers love of freedom and democracy only ever extended to people who agreed with her. absolutely

He doesn't need the salary did you see the thread on this? Yes mostly sensible people dismissing the nonsense but more than a few sympathised with him!

As I said on that thread - they don’t go into it for the salary (and the crazy expenses!) they go into it for the power to effect policy in their first and legislative change that will make them FAR more money long term!

Interesting the EU are now taking legal proceedings against the UK.
Fab.
agreed

Yes, theoretically it’s four years until the next election but we’ve had three in the last five years. I can’t see this government going the distance. but unfortunately people keep voting for them! So a GE isn’t necessarily hopeful

He may get evicted by Tories who care more for the economy than the health of the nation. you think Johnson contradicts this?

Fair enough, turn on BJ, but this right-wing press must accept responsibility for the crap that is going to come with brexit. DEFINITELY! I can see them attempting to rewrite history but it’s much harder now with the internet

People may not save physical newspapers they can certainly find and repost old articles!

meanwhile the elite who break the rules get a free pass. exactly! Plus the rules skewed to favour them - eg hunting exempt from rule of 6!

Same old same old

DGRossetti · 02/10/2020 15:44

Priti will do well

are you serious? Based on what?! She’s been PROVEN to be corrupt, avaricious and unburdened by even the presence of a conscience!

I think you've managed to completely negate your point there. What better candidate for a Tory leader ?

Graphista · 02/10/2020 16:09

Tory Mp yes, but they generally select people who appeal more widely to lead/win elections

But I get you intended as a humorous comment and appreciate the sentiment

strawberrysandpecans · 02/10/2020 17:30

Yes. I saw Justine Greening on newsnight the other week and found it hard to believe that she used to be a Tory. They've gone so far right that they're unrecognisable now

VinylDetective · 02/10/2020 17:47

As theories go, that’s a horribly credible one. Perhaps we should see if they advocate a return to capital punishment?
flashbac · 16/10/2020 18:16
