What do we reckon?

OP posts:

And said he would stand down if the vote went through.

No, Cameron said he would stay on to implement the result, but did a runner withing 12 hours.

Graphista · 30/09/2020 11:48

@MoonJelly that doesn't seem totally implausible to be honest

@Itsinthetreesitscoming it took covid to show you that? Surely it was obvious before covid that they were useless?

LonelyFromCorona · 30/09/2020 11:50

Yep. He will get his name in the history book then vanish, off to make millions doing speeches and writing a biography etc. He has never had genuine intention of governing this country, just wants to be the man that 'delivered' Brexit.

DrManhattan · 30/09/2020 12:09

Just watching him on PM questions now. He is so out of his depth. Sir Keir is running rings around him.

I'd say the useless bag of shit has already got his name in the history books...
Itsinthetreesitscoming · 30/09/2020 12:18

Graphista, I thought they were useless pre Covid, but their Covid response has underlined how totally venal, underprepared, over privileged and out of touch they are - and it looks as if some Tory voters are waking up to this too.

ChristmasinJune · 30/09/2020 12:21

He'll get off after Brexit for sure, I think ok blind optimistic hope that we'll reach some sort of a deal before January.

Both sides have too much to lose in a no deal scenario.

Boris is a one trick pony who accidentally got caught up in the current crisis, he'll hand the reins over with a sigh of relief!!

Graphista · 30/09/2020 12:25

@Itsinthetreesitscoming and it looks as if some Tory voters are waking up to this too.

Let's hope so - not holding my breath though!

I fear that Johnson will simply become a scapegoat within the party and they'll "rebrand" with a new leader and Tory voters will go "it was Johnson that was the problem and he's gone now so I can vote Tory again no problem"

Heffalooomia · 30/09/2020 12:32

Where's he going to run to though?
Leaders of countries who ruin them and run off with the spoils, where do they run to when all countries are ruined?
They are poisoning the wells that they need to drink from

I'm still not convinced he won't magically rediscover his inner American and rebrand himself as Trumps successor. The only questions is will more Americans notice than care ?
Redissuereader · 30/09/2020 13:19

@MoonJelly

There's a credible theory that the likes of Murdoch put Johnson in power precisely because they knew that he would blindly push no deal Brexit through and they would make a fortune out of it; then when inevitably it turns out to be disastrous for the country they let Johnson take the blame, push him out, and put someone like Gove in power to try to rescue the economy by things like getting rid of the benefit system and selling off the NHS. The only problem is that no-one took a possible pandemic into account; Johnson is notoriously lazy and never signed up for coping with Covid, is hating the reality of being PM, so will end up fucking off much earlier than Murdoch and friends planned - thus creating the danger, as they perceive it, of Labour getting in.
I believe that Gove and Boris have had this deal all along. Boris wanted to be PM and be ex PM but never wanted the job for long. I think it was always planned to make him the scapegoat and then Gove can take over and "sort out Boris's mess" I reckon Boris won't be too happy about how big a mess it has become with the pandemic thrown in though...
GrumpyHoonMain · 30/09/2020 13:21

I wouldn’t be surprised if after Covid-19 we are forced into a u-turn on Brexit.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 30/09/2020 13:39

There absolutely won’t be a uturn on Brexit

Wishful thinking for many but why would it happen what party would support this. Tories won’t and neither will Labour they need their voters to return that supported Brexit (and few are changing their minds)

Felifox · 30/09/2020 13:56

If you're unfamiliar with Boris' background read his Wikipedia entry. The Xmas recess would be a good time to disappear before all the backlash of the Brexit deal hits the fan.

Will the other parties combine to get a no confidence vote in the government? Which MP's would you like to see go, my first would be our local Conservative MP, Rees Mogg, Gove and Pritti Patel

DGRossetti · 30/09/2020 14:06

The Xmas recess

Get Xmas done !

Oven ready Xmas - just like the turkey

(my my, turkeys and Brexit, who'd have thunk it ?)

Hingeandbracket · 30/09/2020 14:11

@CakeRequired

Duh. Did anyone who voted for leave actually think he would stay? You don't stay on the sinking ship. 😂 Hence why Cameron jumped off as soon as we voted leave, and why May followed suit not long after. She thought she could potentially get rid of the mistake, she couldn't, she abandoned it.

Boris will run off and leave whichever dipstick is stupid enough to take the helm of titanic. My vote is on Cummings. Anyone else want to take a guess at the moron who will take over?

Why would Cummings bother to get elected when he can run the whole show without needing to?
Hingeandbracket · 30/09/2020 14:14

We're leaving Cameron alone to live out his life here - multi-millionaires are cushioned from the effects of their bad decisions.

We let Thatcher retire gracefully to the Lords and she fucked the country over properly.

MagicSid · 30/09/2020 14:27

Hard to say. Ultimately, I think Boris is a narcissist who wants to be worshipped. If he still thinks there's a chance to get his statue in Parliament Square, he'll stick around.

I think the perfect illustration of the kind of leader Boris is came during the exam crisis, during which of course he was on holiday and left Williamson to take the flack. But then the non-issue of Rule Britannia arose, and spotting an opportunity for the kind of shallow jingoism that made him popular, he made certain he was front and centre.

That's the problem. Brexit was perfect for him - he could give people their patriotic fantasy, blame other people (Remoaners, the EU, liberal elites) when it went wrong and leave his successor to take the rap when the worst of it hit. But the pandemic has been crisis after crisis where the buck stops with him, and I think he hates that. Look at the way he sulks in Parliament when he gets called out.

billy1966 · 30/09/2020 14:35

@MoonJelly

The first conspiracy theory I have read that has a ring of truth to it.

I believe Boris loathes the job and actually doesn't process an ounce of moral fibre or decency in him.

Just as well his legacy isn't a concern of his, as I reckon Cameron and himself are going to get a savaging.

ListeningQuietly · 30/09/2020 14:42

Johnson will go
but the Tories will stay until 2024
asset stripping what is left of the country after the end of Transition
I'm sure the Brexiters are delighted that they won.

About sums it up. The Tories won't surrender power unless they have to, so 2024 at the earliest.

Or not at all. After all, once you've decided the law no longer applies to you, the sky is the limit.

tornadoalley · 30/09/2020 14:58

FFS give it a fucking rest

ditto here. Better still fuck off to the Brexit page.

The80sweregreat · 30/09/2020 15:06

Yes , that will happen I'm sure.

ListeningQuietly · 30/09/2020 15:06
