I love a good foodie thread, with winter on the way what comforting stodge do you enjoy cooking?

I love a good old fashioned cottage pie with marrowfat peas in it and chunky carrots.Even better if it's in a massive, round home made Yorkshire pudding with buttery, peppery cabbage.

Apple crumble and custard for pudding an hour later 🐷

I love fooooood! 😋

Yesterday I made a beef casserole with chunky carrots. Beef melted. We had it with roasted potatoes and parsnips done in goose fat. I seem to have got the knack of them being crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Also buttered cabbage then braised in a bit of stock and Yorkshire puddings. Clafoutis for afters with vanilla custard. Every bit was comforting Smile

Mine's a dish made with bulgar wheat, green lentils, onions, mushrooms and spices... and no, I am not a vegetarian! It's just really tasty and satisfying.

Sausage mash and gravy.
Any homemade soup.

Although there is a lovely cafe near us that does amazing soup and you get a toastie with it. Simple, but it's always so nice.

Chicken pot pie, just like Eat.'s or a nice stew and dumplings.

Always crumble and custard for pudding.

😋😋😋

Cauliflower and broccoli cheese bake with bacon. Soooo good, loads of extra cheese on top before it goes in the oven.

Londonmummy66 · 28/09/2020 22:30

Leek and potato soup preferably made with bacon stock and lots of cheese grated on top and stirred in...

Chicken pie
Lasagne
Curry
Bean and vegetable stew

Kakiweewee · 28/09/2020 22:34

Nice spicy chilli and rice or baked potatoes. I have a tradition of having one in the slow cooker for Bonfire night, so we get to eat it when we get home and warm ourselves through.

Root vegetable soup, usually with ham hock and lentils. Salty, peppery goodness.

Melt in your mouth beef stew with loads of root vegetables and dumplings.

Braised lamb shanks (red wine, rosemary, garlic). 4 when is must marinate in a bottle of red for 24 hours. Remove and brown thanks, return to wine, add a bulb of garlic cut in two (A whole bulb), chuck in some rosemary sprigs and salt and pepper. Put in a low oven for 5/6 hours. Serve with mashed potato and a green veg.

Farmers casserole: braising steak, keep, carrot, one onion, after 2 hours add a mug of frozen peas And tin of haricot beans. Then finish off with 8 dumplings and 40 mins.

LionLily · 28/09/2020 22:43

Anything that goes into the oven by 11am and spends the time till6pm gently slowly cooking and sending out delicious smells all over the house, and making the kitchen so warm and cosy all day.

I like it best when the family start arriving home from school/work etc saying they could smell the stew from outside the house.

And when there's enough left for lunch the next day.

I love autumn food.
