I love a good foodie thread, with winter on the way what comforting stodge do you enjoy cooking?

I love a good old fashioned cottage pie with marrowfat peas in it and chunky carrots.Even better if it's in a massive, round home made Yorkshire pudding with buttery, peppery cabbage.

Apple crumble and custard for pudding an hour later 🐷

I love fooooood! 😋

Corned beef hash...with a side of pickled red cabbage and a hunk of thick buttered crusty bread 🥰

userxx · 29/09/2020 07:02

@GinWithRosie How do you make your corned beef hash?

hula008 · 29/09/2020 07:03

Mushroom risotto 🤤

Thick, chunky creamy vegetable soup

Chicken, ham and leek pie or steak and Stilton pie

This thread is so lovely with great ideas.

Soup with crusty bread and butter is so simple but one of my favourites.

Rosebel · 29/09/2020 07:35

I love stew and dumplings but recently my husband was told no red meat. So I'll have to find something else.

CakeRequired · 29/09/2020 12:27

Ooh dumplings, kind of want to have dumplings tonight now. Grin

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 29/09/2020 12:31

@Rosebel just do chicken stew and dumplings........you can even try making the dumplings with vegetarian suet.

Littleposh · 29/09/2020 12:34

Risotto, made my way so it's a big sloppy bowl of happiness. I always have it on a Monday night and when I'm hungover

Downinthedumps99 · 29/09/2020 13:33

My comfort food is buttery sweet potato mash, a couple of lamb steaks and a couple of yorkshires, both cut into bite size peices, in a big pasta bowl and smothered with mint gravy .
Snuggled on sofa, big spoon Grin my mouths watering now

Circus123 · 29/09/2020 13:43

Irish stew with buttery mash

breadfortea · 29/09/2020 13:46

steak and kidney pudding, with cabbage. Rice pudding made with condensed milk and evaporated milk in the slow cooker.

LadyofTheManners · 29/09/2020 13:50

Good old fashioned home made stew
Whenever I buy a chicken for roast dinner, I buy an extra large one, by evening the leftovers are in the slow cooker with onions and carrots.
Then once we've had that for dinner it's soup the next day.
Love a good chili as well
And always a curry, I use peppers and chili's and other veg about to turn, chucked in the food mixer, with olive oil, a bit of water and whatever else you have so curry powder, masala powder, cumin, and then that goes in with beef of whichever meat or veg you prefer, bit of single cream or coconut milk and it's lovely.

yearinyearout · 29/09/2020 13:52

I'm planning a nice cottage pie this week. I'm also a fan of chicken in red wine casserole with cheesy mash, and a beef stifado with crusty bread.

Opalwindfury · 29/09/2020 13:59

A good hot Caribbean beef curry with rice.
Chicken stew
North African shourba (soup) with homemade bread.
Lasagna

Osquito · 29/09/2020 14:17

Corned beef RICE!
Sauté a bit of chopped onion in a decent amount of butter, then when translucent add your corned beef. Break up while stirring about, about 3-5’, pepper well, then add frozen peas and cook those through. Mix with fluffy white rice. Buttery, salty goodness...

My DSD hates corned beef hash but adores it this way.

I also like a good lamb & barley stew, Greek pastitsio with feta and bread on the side, and beef goulash (again, served with rice 😂) with a big spoonful of sour cream on top.

starterfor11 · 29/09/2020 14:19

RepeatSwan · 29/09/2020 16:28

I think I want to make dumplings now!

Imbc · 29/09/2020 16:32

Slow cooked oxtail or beef cheek with bone marrow dumplings. Or I do a version with lamb shoulder and lots of paprika.

lazylinguist · 29/09/2020 16:35

Beef stew and dumplings
Delia's sausage, apple and cider casserole with juniper berries
Steak and ale pie
Blackberry and apple crumble
Spiced red lentil soup
Cider and white onion soup with cheese

alangarneristerrifying · 29/09/2020 16:41

Stew and dumplings! But I can't often be bothered, so failing that corned beef "hash", but I make it more of a sloppy stew by bashing the potato into it - looks rank, tastes amazing. Or a spicy lentil dhal/ soup

Imbc · 29/09/2020 16:43

Nice to see so many dumpling fans
