I love a good foodie thread, with winter on the way what comforting stodge do you enjoy cooking?

I love a good old fashioned cottage pie with marrowfat peas in it and chunky carrots.Even better if it's in a massive, round home made Yorkshire pudding with buttery, peppery cabbage.

Apple crumble and custard for pudding an hour later 🐷

I love fooooood! 😋

Maple glazed ham, cauliflower cheese with baby potatoes and peas (for colour).

Beef Stroganoff

Sausage and mash with fine beans and gravy.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/09/2020 23:17

I can't believe that no one else has gone for fish pie!
Sometimes I make it, but also love Charlie Bighams ones when I'm being lazy.

Although the previous posts listing slow cooked beef casseroles had my mouth watering too.

stayathomer · 28/09/2020 23:24

Beef stew that's full of potatoes, carrots and peas, served with potato waffles and a slice of batch bread with real butter and a tall glass of milk. I dont know why I need the waffles but they have to be there! I have it for 2 days (the rest of the family just nibble) and only make it from October on!

ShutTheFuckUp123 · 28/09/2020 23:49

Chicken or rabbit stew with dumplings and baked suet crust. Yum yum yum

PivotPivott · 29/09/2020 00:01

Slow cooked beef in onion gravy with potatoes or mash and veg.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 29/09/2020 00:08

Lamb stew, as my mother made it. Basically cawl, but with lots more liquid, & beans. It was the only meat dish I liked as a child, & it takes 2 days to make properly. DH loves it too, now.

minipie · 29/09/2020 00:10

Risotto, or baked potato laden with butter and cheese

RepeatSwan · 29/09/2020 00:13

Oooh so many things.

Jacket potatoes, roast vegetables, chilli and grated cheese is high on the list. Followed by baked apples.

Thighdentitycrisis · 29/09/2020 00:24

Chicken stew with potatoes carrots, leek in, served with lots of green veg and buttered bread

Beef casserole

Also pork, apple, mushrooms casserole

Mondaymanic · 29/09/2020 00:26

Fish pie, stew, lasagne Smile

Graphista · 29/09/2020 01:22

Sausage and bean casserole - I’m veggie so it’s made with Linda McCartney original sausages, diced frozen onion, baked beans, sometimes butter beans too, tinned chopped tomatoes, stock and then my “top tip” is near the end of cooking sprinkle sage and onion stuffing mix over the top, cook for another 10 mins and that gives it a herb “crust” serve with buttery garlic mash

Love having home made soup too, especially with broth ingredients like pearl barley and split peas.

Haggis neeps and tatties with buttered cabbage on the side ooooh yes! I have macsweens veggie haggis love it

Mushroom stroganoff

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 29/09/2020 01:29

Just for me, because the family think it's weird Grin - tomato soup, mashed potato, and bacon.
Has to be Heinz soup, tatie with plenty of butter, and salt, pepper, garlic and a dash of lemon juice added, and crispy bacon pieces.

Hydrate · 29/09/2020 02:11

Beef or lamb stew, we had beef stew for dinner tonight, love it.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 29/09/2020 03:07

Chicken and chorizo stew served with either a huge slab of crusty bread and butter or a wedge of cheese scone and butter.

Bread and butter pudding with custard for pudding.

Kote · 29/09/2020 04:16

Slow cooker beef and ale stew

seayork2020 · 29/09/2020 04:31

Mince and dumplings, lamb/beef stews, chicken casserole, macaroni cheese, spaghetti Bolognese.

Although I love the idea of slow cookers there is something about the way it cooks meat that I am not a fan of, we brown it first and I can handle small pieces if meat but large ones, it is a texture thing I think

seayork2020 · 29/09/2020 04:31

@Mondaymanic

Fish pie, stew, lasagne Smile
I forgot lasagne and I love fish pie all year round
Mammyloveswine · 29/09/2020 05:37

TeddyIsaHe · 29/09/2020 06:17

Pheasant braised in red wine with roasted carrots, kale and super creamy mash.

I think I could honestly live off of this for weeks without getting bored.

userxx · 29/09/2020 06:46

tomato soup, mashed potato, and bacon.

In a bowl, all together?
