I love a good foodie thread, with winter on the way what comforting stodge do you enjoy cooking?

I love a good old fashioned cottage pie with marrowfat peas in it and chunky carrots.Even better if it's in a massive, round home made Yorkshire pudding with buttery, peppery cabbage.

Apple crumble and custard for pudding an hour later 🐷

I love fooooood! 😋

Oven-baked risotto is also really nice, and very easy to make. I use this recipe but also put mushrooms and spicy sausages in mine.

I discovered a cake recipe with a tin of prunes blended up in the batter today and it is delicious! Also love cooking anything with dumplings in, for quality stodge factor.

Marrowfat peas are the food of the devil.

A good veggie lasagna or a spicy hot curry are the way forward.

Whathappenedtothelego · 29/09/2020 18:23

Beef carbonnade, mashed potatoes, buttery cabbage.

Glazed ham, potato dumplings, red cabbage with apple, peas.

Sausage casserole with paprika, red peppers and white beans, served with crusty bread.

And my ultimate favourite, trio of sausages, creamy mash, homemade onion gravy and peas.

Whathappenedtothelego · 29/09/2020 18:25

Oh and puddings!

Pear and apple crumble, rhubarb crumble, apricot crumble, sticky toffee pudding, steamed marmalade sponge and custard.

rosiejaune · 29/09/2020 18:26

Butternut squash soup.

GinWithRosie · 29/09/2020 18:32

@userxx

Boil my potatoes and 'rough' mash them, so it's not too smooth (not like mashed potatoes).

Sauté an onion in a big frying pan (usually add carrots too).

Add the potatoes and chopped up corned beef to the pan, season, big old dash of Worcestershire Sauce, give it a bit of a stir.

I like mine with a pie crust, so I then transfer the hash mixture to a big pie dish and add a shortbread pastry top and bake it.

SandysMam · 29/09/2020 19:01

Chicken or bean enchiladas with spicy tomato sauce and loads of cheese on top, baked so the tortillas are really crispy and the cheeses oozes!! I love to them scatter on jalapeños, chopped spring onions and serve with a dollop of sour cream or guacamole. Yum!!
