Might be all the stress in the world at the moment but it’s made me think about what I’d give for a couple of doves and the clammy hands that come with them. Don’t think my heart could take it now Sad

Another pointless, naive post @Bbq1. I’d like everyone on Earth to be nice to each other and for world peace and an end to famine. There’s another thought.

Humans have been using substances since almost the dawn of time, and they’ll continue to do so. Wishing it wasn’t the case will get you nowhere.

Bbq1 · 06/10/2020 12:54

Clearly the feeling on here is mainly that drugs should be legalised for users "safe" enjoyment. All spouted while you all reminisce about getting high. Anyone with an opposing view is called naive etc. You think drugs are great and should be legalised but your viewpoint is not the only valid one. Anyway, I'm leaving you all to your lovely nostalgic, competitive chats about your drug use.

But you could say the same for a lot of things; why do we need the army, we could all just be nice to each other and not cause war? Why do we need hospitals and Accident departments when we could all just be more careful and look after ourselves and our bodies.
There are a lot of why's and what ifs, but drugs are a thing, all the while someone is making money from them they will continue to be a thing. Sadly the reality of the current way it works is that drugs money goes towards funding other crimes, it causes drug wars and gangs and shoplifting and burglary.
However, when you're a teen up for a good night where booze is too dear and they want to dance all night, buying a couple of pills for a tenner (I'm guessing, been a while!), there's no way they even contemplate or maybe they're not even aware of what their money is being used for or what they're buying. Drug dealers become your mate, and mates would never intentionally hurt you, right? And there in lies he issue of not regulating it
As someone on TV just said, more people will die if alcohol related illness and accident then of Covid. But you can go to Tesco and grab as much as you can pay for.

Katesometimeslate · 06/10/2020 16:09

bbq1 why do people need bag fulls of new clothes? To drink alcohol? To smoke cigarettes? These all cause issues in our society but I think everyone would rather deal with these issues than live in a nanny state where the choice doesn’t exist.

DioneTheDiabolist · 06/10/2020 16:12

Here's a thought: people don't take drugs and then there's no risk. Simple really.
Wow, why hasn't anyone thought of that before?Shock

Oh yeah, they haveHmm and as we have discovered that message doesn't work. It never has. Nor does an absence of illegal drugs as young thrill seekers will turn to prescription drugs. As I said upthread, more young people where I am have died taking Lyrica (pregabalin) than MDMA.

Quietlyloud · 06/10/2020 17:38

Bbq1 No one needs to take them you’re right. But some will want to and will do it. No one needs alcohol or cigarettes either, yet both are legal and land plenty of young ones end up in hospital from the alcohol regularly.. so what’s your point again? Carry on as we are and just what? Get sad when someone dies because of dodgy shit or not knowing the effects etc before hand and then still do nothing about it? Sounds good, it doesn’t work but sure, keep going with it.

@oakleaffy

Tragically heard on radio tonight {5th Oct 2020} that Four young people have died over the weekend after ''Taking 'E'''

One young woman supposedly took Ketamine.

It wouldn't be surprising for these drugs are not MDMA but the far more toxic PMA.

Young people need to be told that taking any 'Street' {illegal} pill/powder

is a risk, and obviously the safest is to take nothing.

Or buy a ''pill testing kit'' {online}.

Yes, it seems a lot of drug deaths are because of dodgy things being used to cut, or totally different drugs being sold as 'E'. Testing kits should be more widespread. Yes some don't agree with drugs, but making testing more available would help a lot of people (largely the young I imagine) and would reduce the deaths that anti drug people use in their points about how bad drugs are.

I agree deaths of kids who have taken drugs are sad of course. But it seems to be not too widely acknowledged that many of these deaths could be avoided by..drugs being safer/purer (helped by legalisation) and people being able to test what they by to make sure its what they were told it was.

oakleaffy · 21/10/2020 23:59

Re-visited this, as was so surprised that my Uber Straight relation is divorcing, and now uses various drugs with his new partner.

Including E. {As a sex booster}

Definitely not in the 'Young' category.

Seems ''Mid life crisis'' people who were straight are discovering drugs for the first time.

Others who were using as teenagers/20's/30's are easing off in Middle age as they ''Got it out of their systems''..

@ClarencesMum

And coke... and stepped to get the housework done. Ah those were the days.
