Might be all the stress in the world at the moment but it’s made me think about what I’d give for a couple of doves and the clammy hands that come with them. Don’t think my heart could take it now Sad

This all sounds so seedy...people actually "nostalgic" about taking drugs? Lovely. To the pp who said Leah Betts died as a result of drinking too much water, not taking ecstacy, don't be ridiculous. Why do you think she consumed so much water in the first place? Oh yes, because she took Ecstasy...I was 18 in 1991 and had some great nights but I have never taken any drugs or been offered any. I'm proud of that. You all crack on though...at least you didn't die and hey, with your Liberal attitudes and longing and craving for drugs, I'm sure you'll be able to get high with your kids when you think they're old enough.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 30/09/2020 21:09

'Crack on' - no pun intended?

Hoglet70 · 30/09/2020 21:15

Ah, happy days. I look back with fond memories. Wouldn't even dare light a spliff these days!

CroutonCrab · 30/09/2020 21:25

bbq1 hmm yes- we’re being sensible and waiting for dd’s second birthday

oakleaffy With a little less coughing, for sure lol

Quietlyloud · 01/10/2020 15:48

KaptainKaveman Do you get this upset when people talk about other things they did when younger that would be deemed risky now? For example, when younger I was a lot less risk aware and would just be roaming at night but I had some good times and like to reminisce about that, it was a risk though like drugs so surely you must never think back to fun but dumb times you had when younger, that’s why you come across as boring. It’s okay to not do drugs, it’s okay to have always been sensible but the lording it up and looking down on others who didn’t act like you is pathetic.

Quietlyloud · 01/10/2020 16:36

Tadpolesandfroglets it is a mellow drug for many people that doesn’t mean it’s good for everyone. That’s also not a reason to say it’s a dreadful drug. I would be much worse off drinking than I ever was having a joint. Some prescription drugs react badly with some people but we don’t call it awful because of that. Not everyone is the same and for many weed isn’t good and so they should avoid it.

Quietlyloud · 01/10/2020 16:43

LetsBeSensible That would be amazing lol. I’ve always wondered if things like care homes would move with the times. Because the older generation will be slightly different each time and won’t have the same interests as someone in their 80s now would.

LetsBeSensible · 01/10/2020 16:49

@Quietlyloud I have an irrational fear they will make us listen to recent easy listening but maybe we will get Ibiza Chillout vol 2?
Mind you I’ve lived long enough to hear the Pixies sell their riffs to be instrumental music on adverts, so anything is possible.

Bbq1 · 01/10/2020 19:05

Oh here we go...People who don't condone recreational drug taking are now being called "boring" by a group of mums talking about how wonderful life was as a drug user in the 90's. How old are some of you people because it's like being back at school; " I'm cool because I take drugs, you're boring because you don't." Ffs. Grow up.

oakleaffy · 01/10/2020 19:18

It was mentioned in the post that Leah Betts drank water to toxic levels ''because'' she was following advice to neck water like one was a camel.

E doesn't make you want to drink, Poor Leah forced herself to drink, and wasn't dancing so wasn't sweating it out.

The walls and ceilings of indoor dance clubs used to literally drip with sweat from all the sweat pumped out by dancers.

My DS is an adult now and has never taken anything stronger than a paracetamol.

Leah's dad was a copper. Leah would have had every scare story told to her by her dad, clearly.

Education {realistic} is the only way to cope with it.
DS had two ''out of Towners'' come and stay the night..
DS came into my room saying the out oft owners had weed.

I said ''Are you sure?''... I went into the room saying ''You're busted!'' and sure enough, they had it.

The younger brother {whom I hadn't allowed to stay over} was there too.

I phoned the parents at once to say to come and collect their DC.

The mum did.

Even in Holland they don't allow under 18's to use weed, and no way would I tolerate it with underage people in any way, shape or form

Lonelycrab · 01/10/2020 19:22

I don’t think you’ve got anything to contribute @Bbq1. You’ve told people to grow up yet you’re coming across as a bolshy 11yo imo.

Yes this is basically a thread extending the recent issue of "cool" women on MN being into things like drugs or being on the side of the Man etc

oakleaffy · 01/10/2020 19:37

These old ladies use cannabis for the first time in Amsterdam :

To me drinking and smoking weed are equal. Weed is not more.bad

LadyofTheManners · 02/10/2020 07:20

Ah yes, I got up to illicit snogging and worse whilst trollied with other females. It was all about touch, it would crackle through my fingers and down my arm depending on how good the pill was. Like a wave.

I remember being at a house, they had huge speakers. There was only about 15 of us and I laid on the floor and felt like the bass from the speakers was moving me along the floor.

Sorry to those pissed off by this thread. If you decided not to touch drugs then more power to you, I'm not a fan of drinking but I know people have the choice to do that.
Personally, the idea of a come down with two DC's would be horrific so although I do miss those times I couldn't see myself partaking. There's nothing wrong with looking back though.
I think our generation was let down and led to drugs because we were taught in school even one puff on a joint would mean you were a crackhead within weeks. My DCs School have a far better way of teaching about cannabis in that they say it is a gateway drug because you buy it from dealers who can then tempt you with stronger stuff, but they also explain that it can be successfully used for medicinal purposes quite legally in some countries. They are far more informed than us.

Keepithidden · 02/10/2020 21:09

Cannabis was a gateway drug for me. Once I'd had a few joints I was hooked on nicotine and started smoking fags regularly! Should've just stuck with bongs....

LolaLollypop · 02/10/2020 21:15

The world would be a much better place if everyone just got on it a few times in their youth. No prejudice, people from all walks of life getting on and having a good time - peace, love, unity and respect. It’s a mantra the majority of people could do with following these days.

Mwnci123 · 02/10/2020 21:22

YANBU. Must be 16 years for me and I am far too risk averse now, but god it would be a nice change wouldn't it.

Izzabellasasperella · 03/10/2020 03:54

I think anyone who has never done an E has no right to comment on this thread. Stop with the holier than thy anti drug rhetoric.
This thread is a nostalgic look back to our youth, a mutual understanding of an era.
We don't need anti drugs lectures from people who have no idea of the fun we had😊

Ylfa · 03/10/2020 09:37

I think cigarettes were my ‘gateway’, they were the first forbidden thing I ever tried, then alcohol then weed then pills then speed then coke then shrooms then acid and I’ve never looked back or had any regrets - the only drugs that have caused serious life changing problems (physically and mentally) were prescription drugs:

Celebrex - ulcers
Citalopram (actually I can’t remember which anti depressant it was but it was a mild, common one) - mania within 8 days of starting, hospitalised for months, just the beginning of decades of trouble with mania and hypomania
Lithium - lithium toxicity, Graves’ Disease
Olanzapine - obesity

You get the idea

There should be a clandestine mumsnet rave when lockdown is over.
Masses of middle aged mums off their tits having dancing till dawn.
Followed in my case by a detox spa week!
It would be worth it.Smile
